ELK RIVER FOOTBALL PLAYERS ARE DISCIPLINED

According to the Minneapolis Star Tribune a total of nine football players will be disciplined for their actions in a hazing incident.

The Elk River School board met over the weekend in a special meeting to decide the players and coaches discipline action regarding the incident.

According to the report three players will be suspended for four games. And two players will have to sit out one game. Four players have been kicked off of the football team because of their actions.

The Elk River school board reinstated seven coaches from paid administrative leave. Five coaches are still on paid administrative leave pending more district investigations that will take place this week.

Elk River opens the 2010 season against Becker on Thursday September 2, 2010.

FORMER VIKING WILLIE HOWARD IS THE NEW FOOTBALL COACH AT ROBBINSDALE COOPER

Willie Howard the former Minnesota Viking has been named the head varsity football coach at Robbinsdale Cooper high school.

His football career was cut short due to a career ending knee injury.

THE ELK RIVER FOOTBALL TEAM HAS BEEN SUSPENDED OVER HAZING ALLEGATIONS

According to the Associated Press the whole Elk River varsity football team has been suspended due to allegations of hazing. There are little details as of what all happened in the incident and the Elk River Police are investigating the allegations. As of now the whole team is suspended.

The team is prohibited from having any practices or games until the investigation is complete.

Elk River was supposed to open the season on Sept. 2, when it hosts Becker.

TROY LAMONT MAY JR WILL BE TRANSFERING TO MINNETONKA HIGH SCHOOL

Troy Lamont May Jr who played basketball at Minneapolis North last season has decided to transfer to Minnetonka high school for the 2010-2011 season. Troy May will be a 10th grader this season.

May said his reason to leave North was for academic reasons.

THE UNIVERSITY OF MINNESOTA MEN’S BASKETBALL TEAM PREPARES FOR THE TRIP TO CANADA

The University of Minnesota men’s basketball team has begun practicing and preparing for their upcoming trip to Canada. The Gophers will be playing three games in Canada in early September.

NEW RULES REGARDING HEAD INJURIES FOR HIGH SCHOOL ATHLETES

According to the Minnesota State High School League there are going to be new rules and regulations regarding head injuries. Last year too many student athletes were getting head injuries.

The Minnesota State High School League will come out with the new rules and regulations that each coach and Athletic Director will have to go through after a student has received a head injury.

AL NEWMAN NAMED HEAD BASEBALL COACH AT APPLE VALLEY

According to Brian Stensaas of the Minneapolis Star Tribune former Minnesota Twins player Al Newman has been hired as the head baseball coach at Apple Valley High School.

Newman has past coaching experiences. He coached in the Twins minor league system from 1996-2001. He then coached in the big leagues from 2003-2005.

ARE YOU READY FOR SOME UNIVERSITY OF MINNESOTA GOPHER FOOTBALL

The University of Minnesota football team showed off their skills on the field by holding an open scrimmage at TCF Bank Stadium.

After the scrimmage was a chance for football fans to get down onto the TCF Bank Stadium field to see and talk to their favorite players.

I think that this year’s football team will be a good team. I think that with the guys they have returning and the players that they recruited to play, it will be a good season for the football team.

The Gophers home opener is scheduled for Saturday, September 11 against South Dakota at 11 AM.


BRETT FAVRE MAKES IT OFFICIAL. HE IS BACK FOR 20TH SEASON

At a press conference at Winter Park, Minnesota Vikings quarterback Brett Favre made it official by saying that he is coming back for this 20th season.

BRETT FAVRE RETURNS TO PRATICE

According to the ESPN News QB Brett Favre will practice with the Vikings on Wednesday. This was the first practice that Favre has participated in this season.

According to the Associated Press, Minnesota Vikings quarterback Brett Favre has returned to Minnesota. There were questions regarding Favre’s return to the team after he had ankle surgery during the summer.

Vikings players Jared Allen, Steve Hutchinson and Ryan Longwell traveled to Mississippi to meet with quarterback Brett Favre.

VIKINGS PLAYERS MEET WITH BRETT FAVRE

According to the Associated Press current Minnesota Vikings players Jared Allen, Steve Hutchinson and Ryan Longwell have traveled to Mississippi to meet with quarterback Brett Favre.

They want to talk to him about the upcoming football season. Favre did not participate in Vikings training camp.

During the off-season he had ankle surgery. Most are saying Brett Favre will decide to play or not based on how his surgically repaired ankle feels.

LARRY FITZGERALD SPRAINED HIS RIGHT MCL

According to ESPN Arizona Cardinals’ WR Larry Fitzgerald has been diagnosed with a sprained right MCL. He sprained his MCL in a game on Aug 14, 2010 and is expected to be ready for regular season.

Monday August 16 2010 begins the start of the Minnesota State High School League football season. Teams from across the state can start practicing.

TREVOR MBAKWE TO AVOID JAIL TIME

According to the Minneapolis Star Tribune, University of Minnesota basketball player Trevor Mbakwe will avoid jail time. Trevor will have to make a $100.00 donation to a Florida facility for abuse victims. He is also required to stay away from the woman who accused him of assaulting her in Miami last year.

Mabakwe was facing assault charges against him from an accused fight in Florida on April 3, 2009.

He also sat out the entire 2009-2010 basketball season due to the investigation.

THE MINNESOTA TIMBERWOLVES SIGN ANTHONY TOLLIVER

According to ESPN the Minnesota Timberwolves signed F Anthony Tolliver. Tolliver averaged 12.3 ppg and 7.3 rpg in 44 games with Warriors last season.

ABOUT A THOUSAND PEOPLE PAY THEIR RESPECTS TO GLEN BYE

According to KARE 11 news, about a thousand people said their final goodbyes to Zimmerman High School quarterback Glen Bye. Glen Bye died Wednesday August 4th 2010 when he was in a car crash in Orrock Township north of Big Lake, Minnesota.

GLEN BYE DIED IN A ONE-CAR ACCIDENT

According to KARE 11. Zimmerman High School quarterback Glen Bye, Junior, died Wednesday morning in a one-car accident in Orrock Township north of Big Lake. He was 17 years old.

BRETT’S ANKLE IS THE KEY

According to the Associated Press, Brett Favre's decision likely hinges on whether his surgically-repaired ankle heals well enough. If it does, does it mean that he will play again? Only time will tell.

FAVRE PRACTICES AT OAK GROVE HIGH SCHOOL

According to the Associated Press, Brett Favre was seen practicing at Oak Grove High School in Hattiesburg, MS on Wednesday morning. Favre made no comments to reporters.

FAVRE DRAMA MIGHT NOT BE OVER YET

The Brett Favre drama might not be over yet. As the Associated Press reported on Tuesday August 3, 2010 word was that Brett Favre had retired.

According to NFL sources the Minnesota Vikings have reportedly offered Brett Favre $20 million dollars, $16 million would be guaranteed. The additional $4 million is based on incentives. Favre would have made $13 million this season.

BRETT LORENZO FAVRE SAYS HE IS RETIRING AGAIN

According to the Associated Press Brett Favre said that he is retiring again for the third time. Favre had ankle surgery after the 2009-2010 season.

Favre did not show up for the team’s first week of training camp. According to the Minnesota Vikings they are not commenting on the Favre case.

Brad Childress has not heard from Brett Favre directly about his retirement.

According to the Associated Press Timberwolves waived G Delonte West, who was acquired in 4-player trade with the Cavs on July 26, 2010.

HOPKINS TOOK ON EASTVIEW IN THE PACESETTER SWEET SIXTEEN TOURNAMENT

In the Pacesetter championship game Hopkins took on Eastview. Both teams were aggressive from the beginning of the game. Both teams looked to push the ball up the court from the start of the game.

Hopkins was very aggressive to begin the game. They didn’t want to have Eastview go on any type of run to begin the game.

Joe Coleman led the charge early in the contest. On the offensive end he was able to make some nice open shots.

Eastview tried to swing the ball around the three point line as they were trying to take time off the clock.

At the end of the first quarter the score was Hopkins 17 and Eastview 8.

Eastview started out the second quarter in a zone defense. They wanted to spread Hopkins out as much as they could. They didn’t want to get into a foot race with Hopkins.

Eastview didn’t back down at all. They kept on fighting throughout the half. They didn’t back down from the Hopkins pressure.

Hopkins did a good job of knocking down shots throughout the first half. They also went to a zone defense late in the second quarter.

At halftime Hopkins had a 33-18 lead over Eastview.

Eastview wanted to come out and control the tempo of the game to begin the third quarter. Hopkins stayed in their zone defense.

Hopkins was overpowering for Eastview. The Eastview players couldn’t handle the Hopkins pressure they were putting on them.

Eastview did a good job of spreading the floor out. They wanted to try to get Hopkins out of their rhythm.

At the end of the third quarter the score was Hopkins 52 and Eastview 37.

Hopkins continued to play solid basketball throughout the third quarter. They were able to go on a run midway through the third quarter.

Hopkins was able to dominate Eastview throughout the game. Eastview didn’t give up and both teams played well. In the end Hopkins came away with the 69-48 victory over Eastview.

HOPKINS TOOK ON APPLE VALLEY IN THE PACESETTERS SWEET SIXTEEN BOYS’ BASKETBALL TOURNAMENT

In semifinal action Apple Valley took on Hopkins. Apple Valley got out to a quick start as they were able to string together some nice shots.

For Hopkins they were looking to get the ball into Siyani Chambers hands. They were able to do that. Chambers did a good job with the ball. He knew where his teammates were on the court.

One of the more interesting matchups on the court was the one between guards Tyus Jones of Apple Valley and Siyani Chambers of Hopkins. Those two guards did a good job of defending each other throughout the game.


Hopkins looked to push the ball up the court every chance they had. Hey were looking to get easy baskets in transition.

Tyus is so quick with the ball. He knows were to be on the court and he goes strong to the basket every chance he can.

Joe Coleman took the ball hard to the basket early in the game. He made some nice moves to the basket and was not afraid to cut through traffic to make shots.

At the end of the first quarter the score was Hopkins 28 and Apple Valley 17.

Apple Valley continued to put pressure on Hopkins. They didn’t want them to get any open looks at the basket.

Hopkins looked to slow the tempo down in the third quarter. Apple Valley went to a zone defense midway through the second quarter.

Both teams went hard at each other throughout the first half. Neither team was going to back down.

At halftime the score was Hopkins 46 and Apple Valley 42.

As the third quarter got underway both teams came out on fire. Apple Valley was able to make a run early on. Hopkins didn’t have an answer early in the quarter.

Apple Valley did a good job of defending Hopkins shots. They did not back down from their defense.

Tyus Jones continued to push the ball up the court throughout the third quarter.

Hopkins was able to go on a run midway through the third quarter.

At the end of the third quarter the score was Hopkins 70 and Apple Valley 54.

The physical play continued throughout the fourth quarter. Tyus Jones kept his team in the game. Even when Hopkins went on their last run in the fourth quarter Tyus Jones didn’t give up.

I thought that Tyus Jones played well throughout the game. Tyus stepped up his game. I thought that he really showed why he is one of the top rated guards in the state. He was a handful for Chambers of Hopkins to guard. I think that his game is just so advanced at this stage in his career. I think that he will only improve as a player as he keeps playing.

In the fourth quarter Apple Valley came out on fire. They were able to make a run at Hopkins but it was not enough.

Hopkins was able to come away with the 96-89 victory over Apple Valley.

HOPKINS TOOK ON WINDOM IN THE PACESETTER SWEET SIXTEEN TOURNAMENT

Hopkins took on Windom in the Pacesetter tournament. Both teams looked to push the ball in the early goings of the game.

Both teams were really aggressive throughout the game. Windom players were taking it to Hopkins in the beginning of the game.

At the end of the first quarter the score was Windom 18 Hopkins 17.

As the second quarter got underway Siyani Chambers did a good job of running the offense for Hopkins. He knew where his teammates were supposed to be on the floor and he was able to get his players in the correct spots on the court.

Windom was able to knock down their shots throughout the first half. They were able to slow down Hopkins.

Hopkins went on a run late in the second quarter. At halftime the score was Hopkins 30 and Windom 26.

As the third quarter got underway Windom put on the jets as they were able to score a bunch of baskets right in a row. That didn’t seem to faze Hopkins as they were able to handle the onslaught of baskets by Windom.

After Windom went on their run in the third quarter Hopkins stepped up their defensive pressure.

The score after three quarters of play was Hopkins 51 and Windom 41.

In the fourth quarter Hopkins was too quick for Windom. Windom was able to give Hopkins a scare late in the contest. But in the end Hopkins came away with the 65-52 victory over Windom.

BRAHAM TOOK ON ELLSWORTH IN THE CONSOLATION MATCHUP IN THE PACESETTER BASKETBALL TOURNAMENT

The Braham Bombers took on Ellsworth in a consolation matchup in the Pacesetter Sweet Sixteen basketball tournament.

Both teams traded baskets to open the game up. The defense pressure that was applied by both teams was tremendous.


Both teams were able to slow each other down.

Both teams looked to push the ball up the court. They really relied on the transition game to get into their offenses.

Braham did a good job of knocking down three point shots. They were dead on, on their three point shots.

At the end of the first quarter the score was Ellsworth 20 and Braham 19.

As the second quarter got underway Ellsworth was able to knock down some shots early in the quarter. They were able to step up and defend Braham on the three point line and slow the Bombers down.

Braham looked to push the ball up the court as they wanted to get quick points in transition. They were able to go up and down the court as they wanted to Ellsworth looked to slow the tempo down when they were on offense.

Ellsworth was able to go on a run midway through the second quarter. They had a 43-37 advantage at halftime.

Tyler Vaughan had 21 pts on five 3’s for Braham at the half.

As the third quarter got underway both teams kept battling it out. Both teams did a good job of playing aggressively throughout.

Ellsworth was able to shut down Braham in the early part of the third quarter. Braham was not able to get a shot off in the beginning of the game.

Braham went on a run at the end of the third quarter. At the end of the third quarter the score was tied at 56.


As the fourth quarter got underway both teams traded baskets to begin the quarter. Both teams played very well on the defensive end. Neither team gave up easy baskets throughout the game.

The game went back and forth in the fourth quarter but in the end Ellsworth came away with the 81-72 victory over Braham.


PACESETTER SWEET SIXTEEN BOYS’ BASKETBALL TOURNAMENT WENT ON IN ST. JOSEPH MINNESOTA

Minnesota Pacesetters put on a boys basketball tournament on the campus of St Ben’s University in St Joseph, Minnesota. They invited the top teams from across the state to participate in a high school basketball tournament.

In the first game Braham took on Apple Valley. Braham looked to push the ball up the court from the beginning of the game. Both teams did a good job of defending the ball in the early goings of the game.

Tyus Jones from Apple Valley did a good job of running their offense. He was able to get his players into the positions where they needed to be on the court.

Apple Valley had a 27-18 lead over Braham at the end of the first quarter.

Apple Valley went on a run to open the second quarter. Braham didn’t back down they kept the pressure on Braham.

Apple Valley found their shot early on as they were able to go on a run in the second quarter. Tyus Jones’ shot was dead on. He was able to hit it from wherever he was in the first half.

Apple Valley went to a zone defense in the second quarter. They wanted to try to spread the Braham offense out.

On the offensive end Braham looked to swing the ball around the three-point line. They wanted to get the best shot they could.

Braham went on a run late in the second quarter. They were to get Apple Valley out of their rhythm on the offensive end.

At halftime the score was Apple Valley 47 and Braham 36.

Tyus Jones did a good job of blowing by his defender. He is a quick guard. Defenders have a hard time guarding
Tyus because of his quickness. Jones can just do so much with the ball and he knows the game.

Both teams looked to push the ball in transition. Apple Valley did a good job of scoring baskets in transition.

Braham did a good job of running their plays. They just had a hard time fishing plays.

At the end of the third quarter the score was Apple Valley 72 and Braham 54.

Apple Valley continued to flex its muscle in the fourth quarter. They didn’t back down to Braham’s pressure.

Apple Valley came away with the 91-77 victory over Braham.
