SAUK CENTRE SQUARED OFF AGAINST DOVER-EYOTA IN THE CLASS 2A STATE CHAMPIONSHIP

Sauk Centre and Dover-Eyota squared off in the Class 2A state championship game at Williams Arena.

Both teams raced up and down the floor making layups.

Sauk Centre got the ball into the hands of Mauren Thiesen, Maesyn Thiesen and Kelsey Peschel who came up with mid-range jump shots and layups.

The score went back and forth late in the first half. There were multiple ties and lead changes n the first half.

There was a media timeout with 3:56 left in the first half. The score as Dover-Eyota 23, Sauk Centre 22.

There were many ties and lead changes late.

At halftime the score was Sauk Centre 34, Dover-Eyota 33.

As the second half got underway both teams continued to attack the basket and looked for layups.

The score counted to go back and forth throughout the second half. Neither team went on a run early.

Mauren Thiesen, Maesyn Thiesen and Peschel all continued to come up with mid-range jump shots and layups throughout the second half.

Dover-Eyota went to a zone defense. Sauk Centre was content on passing the ball around the 3-point line as they were able to take time off the clock.

The Dover-Eyota defense late in the game caused Sauk Centre all kinds of problems.

Dover-Eyota came away with the 71-58 victory over Sauk Centre.

With that victory Dover-Eyota won the Class 2A state title.
