MINNEAPOLIS SOUTH WENT UP AGAINST MINNEAPOLIS NORTH IN A BOYS' BASKETBALL GAME

On Jan. 22, Minneapolis South went up against Minneapolis North in a boys' basketball game.
 
South looked to push the ball down the floor and score baskets in transition early.  
 
Both teams were intense to start out the game.
 
North Patrick Dembley came up with deep 3-point baskets. His teammates did a good job of getting him the ball in spots where he could shoot it.
 
North called a timeout with 15:14 left in the first half. The score was South 6, North 5.
 
North got steals on the defensive end and were able to come up with layups.
 
Neither team went on a run in the first half.
 
South called a timeout with 11:59 left in the first half. The score was North 15, South 10.
 
Tayler Johnson came up with 3-point baskets in the first half. His teammates did a good job of getting him the ball in spots where he could shoot it.
 
North did a good job of getting the ball to the basket and coming up with baskets in transition.
 
North’s JaQuan Sanders-Smith came up with mid-range jump shots and layups in the first half.
 
Both teams dove on the floor after loose balls and went after loose balls on both ends of the floor.
 
North’s Taylor Johnson came up with rebounds on both ends of the floor. On the offensive end he was able to get layups.
 
At halftime the score was North 41 South 31.
 
As the second half got underway North really started to push the ball down the floor and was able to make open shots.
 
North called a timeout with 16:16 left in regulation. The score was North 49, South 33.
 
Sanders-Smith came up with mid-range jump shots and layups.
 
South called a timeout with 14:30 left in regulation. The score was North 57, South 35.
 
North looked to set the tempo in the second half. They were able to make fast break layups and slam dunks.
 
South called a timeout with 12:07 left in regulation. The score was North 58, South 41.
 
North looked to take time off the clock in the second half by swinging the ball around the 3-point line.
 
North was quicker than South was. North was able to come up with steals and layups off of steals,
 
North came away with 103-72 victory over South.
 

STEVENS POINT WENT UP AGAINST RIVER FALLS IN A MEN'S BASKETBALL GAME

On Jan. 20, Stevens Point and River Falls squared off in a men's basketball game. Both teams looked like they were energized to start the game.
 
River Falls looked to move the ball quickly down the floor and score baskets in transition.
 
Stevens Point also looked to move the ball down the floor and looked to take as much time off the shot clock as possible.
 
River Falls got the ball into the hands of Jon Christensen. Christensen came up with mid-range jump shots and layups.
 
There was a media timeout with 14:05 left in the first half. The score was River Falls 10, Stevens Point 9.
 
River Falls guard Devin Buckley was able to lock down his guy on defense. He made it difficult for him to shoot the ball.
 
Both teams did a good job of taking time off the clock in the first half.
 
Stevens Point called a timeout with 9:26 left in the first half. The score was River Falls 19, Stevens Point 13.
 
River Falls Brennan Witt came up with 3-point baskets.
 
There was a media timeout with 7:09 left in the first half. The score was River Falls 22, Stevens Point 14.
 
Stevens Point wasn’t afraid to shoot deep 3-point shots. Everyone crashed the boards.
 
River Falls called a timeout with 4:00 left in the first half. The score was River Falls 25, Stevens Point 21.
 
The defensive pressure by both teams made it difficult for the other one to make shots.
 
Christensen came up with deep 3-point shots late in the half.  
 
At halftime the score was River Falls 30, Stevens Point 24.
 
As the second half got underway both teams took 3-point shots.
 
Stevens Point struggled shooting the ball. Even though they struggled shooting the ball they kept on shooting.
 
Stevens Point’s Stephen Pelkofer came up with 3-point shots.
 
There was a media timeout with 15:22 left in the second half. The score was River Falls 37, Stevens Point 33.
 
Stevens Point attack the basket and came up with layups. They looked for their shots with under 10 seconds left on the shot clock.
 
The game was very physical. Both teams dove on the floor after loose balls.
 
There were multiple ties and lead changes midway through the second half.
 
Stevens Point called a timeout with 9:12 left in regulation. The score was River Falls 44, Stevens Point 42.
 
Both teams had trouble shooting the ball for a period of time.
 
River Falls called a timeout with 5:13 left in regulation. The score was River Falls 45, Stevens Point 43.
 
River Falls was able to knock down shots after the timeout.
 
Stevens Point called a timeout with 3:27 left in regulation. The score was River Falls 50, Stevens Point 43.
 
River Falls looked to take time off the clock late in regulation.
 
Stevens Point continued to attack the basket.
 
River Falls called a timeout with 1:14 left in regulation. The score was River Falls 54, Stevens Point 48.
 
The defensive pressure both teams applied late in the game made it difficult for both teams to get
open looks at the basket.
 
River Falls came away with the 56-48 victory over Stevens Point.
 
The leading scorers for Stevens Point were Eathan Bublitz with 10 points and Stephen Pelkfofer with 9 points
 
The leading scorers for River Falls were Witt with 14 points and Pearson with 13 points.

MOUNDS PARK ACADEMY WENT UP AGAINST BLAKE IN A BOYS' BASKETBALL GAME

On Jan. 19 Mounds Park Academy (MPA) squared up against Blake in a boys' basketball game. Blake was under the new direction of head coach Robert Grace. Grace was promoted when the previous head coach stepped down.
 
Blake pushed the ball down the floor as they looked to score baskets in transition.
 
Blake called a timeout with 12:45 left in the first half, the score was Blake 9, MPA 6.
 
Blake scored baskets in transition. They looked to push the ball down the floor and beat MPA down the court.
 
Blake went to a full court man-to-man press in the first half.
 
MPA got everyone involved in the offense. They did a good job of communicating with each other on the floor.
 
At halftime the score was Blake 34, MPA 26.  
 
As the second half got underway Blake continued to push the ball down the floor and scored baskets in transition.
 
Blake went up a full court press. They wanted to make it difficult for MPA to score baskets.
 
Blake was quicker than MPA.
 
MPA went to a zone defense as they looked to slow down Blake on the offensive end.
 
Blake came away with the 70-48 victory over MPA.

BUFFALO WENT UP AGAINST MINNEAPOLIS ROOSEVELT IN A BOYS' BASKETBALL GAME

Buffalo and Roosevelt squared off in a boys' basketball game. Roosevelt looked to push the ball down the floor and score baskets in transition.
 
Roosevelt got the ball into the hands of Elijah Hannah. Hannah came up with midrange jump shots and layups. The defense had a hard time slowing him down.
 
Buffalo called a timeout with 13:52 left in the first half. The score was Roosevelt 11, Buffalo 4.
 
Buffalo looked to attack the basket and get everyone involved in the offense.
 
Roosevelt called a timeout with 9:21 left in the first half. The score was Roosevelt 17, Buffalo 14.
 
After a slow start by Buffalo they went on a 10-3 run.
 
Buffalo played mostly zone defense in the first half. They wanted to force Roosevelt to take deep 3-point shots.
 
Buffalo passed the ball around to each other as they were able to get everyone involved in the offense.
 
At halftime the score was Roosevelt 25 Buffalo 22.
 
As the second half got underway Hannah kept on coming up with huge baskets in transition.
 
Buffalo’s Brytan Matzke came up with mid-range jump shots and layups. The defense had a tough time slowing him down.
 
Roosevelt went to a zone defense in the second half. That made Buffalo swing the ball around the 3-point line.
 
Buffalo switched between man-to-man and zone defenses throughout the second half.
 
Roosevelt called a timeout with 6:08 left in regulation. The score was Roosevelt 41, Buffalo 38.
 
The sore went back and forth late in the game. There were many ties and lead changes in the second half.
 
Buffalo’s Mitch Gabrilick came up with mid-range jump shots and layups in the second half. His teammates did a good job of getting him the ball in spots where he could shoot it.
 
The game came down to the wire.
 
Roosevelt came away with the 54-46 victory over Buffalo.
 
The leading scorer for Roosevelt was Elijah Hannah with 27 points.

OSSEO WENT UP AGAINST MINNEAPOLIS SOUTH IN A BOYS' BASKETBALL GAME

Osseo and Minneapolis South squared off against each other in a boys basketball game. Osseo looked to push the ball down the floor and score baskets in transition.
 
Osseo’s Demario Armstrong came up with mid-range jump shots and layups. His teammates did a good job of getting him the ball in spots where he could shoot it.
 
Osseo’s Zach Theisen came up with mid-range jump shots and layups in the first half.
 
South called a timeout with 10:17 left in the first half. The score was Osseo 18, South 12.
 
South struggled to shoot the ball in the first half. Even though they had a difficult time hitting shots they kept attacking the basket.
 
South called a timeout with 6:40 left to go in the first half. The score was Osseo 28, North 12.
 
Osseo came up with steals and turned them into layups on the offensive end.
 
South’s Michael Harris came up with huge baskets for his team. He was able to score mid-range jump shots and layups. His teammates did a good job of getting him the ball in spots where he could shoot it.
 
South attacked the basket late in the first half.  
 
At halftime the score was Osseo 37, South 30.

Osseo’s Allen Anderson made his mid-range jump shots and layups in the second half. His teammates did a good job of getting him the ball in spots where he could make it.
 
Osseo’s Zach Theisen came up with mid-range jump shots and layups. He knew where his teammates were on the floor. If Theisen didn’t think that he could make a shot, he would pass it off to one of his teammates.
 
Harris continued to come up with huge shots in the second half. His teammates did a good job of feeding him the ball.
 
South’s Payton Bowdry came up with layups and mid-range jump shots. He knew where his teammates were on the floor and were able to get him the ball in spots where he could shoot it.
 
The Osseo defense gave the South offense problems. Osseo did a good job of talking to each other on both ends of the floor.
 
South called a timeout with 7:14 left in regulation. The score was Osseo 59, South 57.
 
Harris continued to come up with huge baskets late in the second half.
 
South did a good job of attacking the Osseo offense.
 
Osseo’s Kameron Bettie came up with huge shots late in the game.
 
Osseo came away with the 79-67 victory over South.
 
The leading scores for South were Harris with 27 points and Bowdry with 15 points.
 
The leading scorers for Osseo were Anderson and Bettie each with 14 points.

BROOKLYN CENTER AND HOPKINS SQUARED OFF AGAINST EACH OTHER IN A BOYS' BASKETBALL GAME

Brooklyn Center and Hopkins squared off against each other in a boys' basketball game. Hopkins looked to score baskets in transition. They moved the ball down the floor well and came up with mid-range jump shots.
 
The score went back and forth throughout the first half. Neither team went on a run early.
 
Brooklyn Center called a timeout with 12:54 left in the first half. The score was Hopkins 15, Brooklyn Center 10.
 
Hopkins got the ball into the hands of Amir Coffey.
 
Brooklyn Center called a timeout with 10:06 left in the first half. The score was Hopkins 25, Brooklyn Center 10.
 
Hopkins was able to score baskets in transition. They were quicker than Brooklyn Center was.
 
Hopkins wasn’t afraid to take deep 3-point shots.
 
Brooklyn Center switched between man-to-man and zone defense. They looked to confuse Hopkins.
 
Brooklyn Center’s Davonta Prince came up with defensive stops. He talked on the defensive end as well.
 
At halftime the score was Hopkins 55, Brooklyn Center 32.
 
Hopkins Erik Davis was all over the floor. On the offensive end he was able to come up with midrange jump shots and layups. He also was able to get past his defenders. If Davis didn’t think that he had a good shot, he would pass it onto one of his teammates.
 
Brooklyn Center’s Davonta Prince was all over the floor. He came up with mid-range jump shots and layups.
 
Brooklyn Center looked to take 3-point shots to start the second half. The Hopkins defense created problems for Brooklyn Center.
 
Hopkins Simon Wright came up with huge baskets. His teammates did a good job of getting him the ball in spots where he could shoot it.
 
Prince continued to come up with mid-range jump shots and layups in the second half.
 
Hopkins continued to come up with shots late in the second half.
 
Wright came up with layups on the baseline.
 
Brooklyn Center’s Landon Kirkwood made two-handed slam dunks.
 
Hopkins came away with the 104-70 win over Brooklyn Center.
 
The leading scorer for Hopkins was Wright with 22 points and Brooklyn Center was lead in scoring by Kirkwood with 19 points.

DELASALLE INSTITUTE WENT UP AGAINST HOPKINS IN A GIRLS' BASKETBALL GAME

DeLaSalle Institute and Hopkins squared off in a girls' basketball game. Hopkins looked to score baskets in transition. They got everyone involved in the offense.
 
Hopkins got the ball into the hands of Hannah Kleist who came up with mid-range jump shots and layups.
 
DeLaSalle got the ball into the post to Chardanae Hamilton. Hamilton came up with rebounds and layups.
 
DeLaSalle had a difficult time scoring in the first half. They were not able to hit shots that they put up.
 
Kleist was all over the floor. On the defensive end she was able to slow down the person she was guarding.
 
Hopkins Evelyn Knox stepped up and knocked down 3-point shots.
 
DeLaSalle called a timeout with 7:11 left in the first half. The score was Hopkins 31, DeLaSalle 12.
 
Hopkins looked to take a lot of time off the clock late in the first half, by swinging the ball around the 3-point line.
 
Hopkins was a lot quicker than DeLaSalle.
 
At halftime the score was Hopkins 61, DeLaSalle 15.
 
As the second half got underway Hopkins stayed in a zone defense. They were able to slow down the DeLaSalle offense.
 
Hopkins guard Reana Suggs came up with layups and mid-range jump shots throughout the game.
 
She knew where her teammates were on the floor. If Suggs didn’t think that she had a good shot she would pass it off to her teammates.
 
DeLaSalle struggled shooting the ball throughout the game.
 
Hopkins came away with the 97-23 victory over DeLaSalle.
 
The MVP’s for thee game were DeLaSalle’s Hamilton, and Hopkins Knox.
