LAKEVILLE NORTH TOOK ON PRIOR LAKE IN A BOYS’ VARSITY FOOTBALL GAME

Lakeville North and Prior Lake went up against each other in a varsity football game. Lakeville North came into the game with a record of 4-0 while Prior Lake had a record of 2-2. It was senior night for Prior Lake, and before the game each of the Prior Lake senior players and cheerleaders were introduced with their parents. After everyone was introduced it was time to play football.

Prior Lake got the ball on their own 29 yard line. Prior Lake quarterback Nick Vanek used both running and passing plays on the opening drive. Prior Lake was able to move the ball down the field and pick up multiple first downs on their first drive.

Lakeville North stepped up its defensive pressure as they looked to slow down the Prior Lake offense. That didn’t seem to work however because Prior Lake continued to drive down the field. On fourth and six, Tyler Hanson made a 22-yard field goal for Prior Lake.

With 7:54 left in the first quarter the score was Prior Lake 3, Lakeville North 0.

Prior Lake kicked off after the field goal. Lakeville North got the ball on their own 34 yard line. Lakeville North got the ball into the running back Jamiah Newell hands. Newell looked to get the ball down the field as quickly as he could. Lakeville North used mostly a running attack on their first drive of the game. Drew Stewart, quarterback for Lakeville North, and knew where his teammates were on the field. Tanner Jacobus came up with a 29 yard reception for a Lakeville North first down. On fourth-and-nine Alex Knutson attempted a 29-yard field goal and it was good.

With 5:19 left in the first quarter, the score was tied at 3.

Lakeville North kicked off to Prior Lake after the field goal. The kick went into the endzone for a touchback. Prior Lake’s Alex Feine came up with some nice catches for his team. Jordan Cadenas came up with an interception for Lakeville North to give them the ball on the Prior Lake 37 yard line.

Gregory Menard looked to get his team into the end zone as they looked for him to pick up yards on short dump plays for him. On fourth-and-10 Lakeville North punted the ball and it traveled into the end zone for a touchback.

Prior Lake went back to the ground game as they were able to get all of their running backs and receivers involved in the offense. Alex Hart picked up a three yard gain at the end of the first quarter.

After one quarter of play the score was tied at 3.

Prior Lake retained possession after the quarter change. On fourth-and-14, Prior Lake punted the ball back to Lakeville North. Zach Beier got the punt but was not able to get any yards.


Lakeville North got the ball on their own 40 yard line on the punt. Newell continued to gain yards as he looked to get past the Prior Lake defenders. Lakeville North kept the ball on the ground. Bronson Bruneau came up with a 16 yard reception that gave Lakeville North a first down.

Prior Lake called a timeout with 5:46 left in the second quarter. The score was tied at 3.

Lakeville looked to get into the end zone on the drive. They had trouble doing that as the Prior Lake defense stepped up big and was able to bat the ball away. Stu Hamann attempted a 28 yard field goal which was good for Lakeville North.


With 4:48 left in the second quarter the score was Lakeville North 6, Prior Lake 3.

After the kick off Prior Lake got the ball back and got the ball on their own 35 yard line. Hart continued to carry the ball well as he was able to get first downs. Webber came up with a first down on a 15 yard reception. Prior Lake went into a hurry up offense as they looked to get into the end zone on their last drive of the first half. They did just that as Tyler Hanson nailed a 41 yard field goal at the buzzer to end the first half.


At halftime the score was tied at 6.


Prior Lake kicked off to Lakeville North to start the third quarter. Lakeville North committed a penalty on the return that meant that Lakeville North got the ball on their own 9 yard line. Conner Flack was not able to get a huge catch because he was covered by multiple defenders and the ball was knocked away. Prior Lake’s Ryan Germscheide intercepted the ball and gave Prior Lake the ball back.

Prior Lake went into their bag of tricks as Alex Feine broke loose of the defenders as he came up with a 25 yard run for the touchdown. The extra point attempt kick was good.

With 10:45 left in the third quarter the score was Prior Lake 13, Lakeville North 6.

Lakeville North got the ball back after the touchdown. They were not able to convert. Drew Stewart punted the ball on fourth down and a mile.

Prior Lake got the ball back on the 20 yard line. West continued to come up with big plays for his team first downs. Blake Weber also got the ball in short down yard situations. He also was able to come up with first down attempts. On fourth fourth-and-nine, Prior Lake punted the ball to Lakeville North.

Lakeville North got the ball on their own 41 yard line. Lakeville North was not able to get a first down. On fourth-and-six, they punted the ball to Prior Lake. Keyanno Reese muffed the punt so he was down on his own 7 yard line.

Prior Lake looked to march down the field late in the third quarter. They kept the ball on the ground late in the third quarter. Heart picked up 5 yards for a first down.

After three quarters of play the score Prior Lake 13, Lakeville North 6.

Prior Lake retained the ball to start the fourth quarter. Prior Lake continued to toward the end zone. On fourth-and-one, Prior Lake’s Weber found the end zone on a 10-yard touchdown run.

The extra point attempt was good by Hanson.

With 7:58 left in the fourth quarter the score was Prior Lake 20, Lakeville North 6.

Prior Lake kicked off to Lakeville North after the touchdown.

Lakeville North was not able to move the ball on the next drive. They punted the ball on fourth-and-10 on their own 23 yard line.

Prior Lake got the ball back near the 30 yard line. They were not able to get a first down so they punted the ball back to Lakeville North.

Lakeville North kept on looking to Newell for yardage late in the contest.

Prior Lake got the ball back after the interception with less than a minute left in regulation.

In a very good game that featured the special teams for both schools Prior Lake came up with the 20-6 victory over Lakeville North.

HOPKINS WENT UP AGAINST MINNETONKA IN A HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL GAME

On Sept. 20, Hopkins traveled to Minnetonka for a football game. Going into the game Hopkins had a record of 1-2, while Minnetonka had a record of 4-0. There was rain around the area so the field was very wet.
 
Hopkins kicked off to Minnetonka. There was no return on the kick off  because the defense was able to step up and make cover the return man. Minnetonka got the ball on their own 35 yard line. Minnetonka ran and passed equally.
 
The Hopkins defense came out strong as they looked to slow down the Minnetonka offense. Minnetonka got a first down on a personal foul on Hopkins. There was no identification on who committed the foul. Nick Rooney was able to get the ball down the field as they looked to get the ball into the Braden Sikes.  The defense for Hopkins really showed their stuff as they looked to slow down the Minnetonka offense.
 
Hopkins called a timeout with 7:31 left in the first quarter. The score was tied at 0. The ball was near the 20 yard line. 
 
Rooney found Sikes on a 17-yard touchdown reception. Perry Duff Smith kicked the extra point and it was good. 
 
With 7:25 left in the first quarter the score was Minnetonka 7, Hopkins 0.
 
Minnetonka kicked off to Hopkins after the touchdown. Hopkins got the ball on their own 39 yard line.  Hopkins used the ground game, as DT Williams got the ball and was able to gain offensive yardage on carries right past the defense. Hopkins picked up first down on the next set of downs with Williams leading the way. Harry Momoh also for Hopkins came up with the ball and picked up a short run for a first down.  On fourth-and-21 Hopkins went for it and was not able to pick up the first down.
 
Minnetonka got the ball on the turnover on downs. They got the ball on their own 44 yard line. Minnetonka was able to keep moving the ball down the field as they picked up first downs in the first half.
 
After the first quarter of play the score was Minnetonka 7, Hopkins 0.
 
Minnetonka got the ball into the hands of Jason Witherspoon who was the running back.
 
Witherspoon tried to get past the defenders but was slowed down. On fourth-and-14, Minnetonka had to punt.
 
Hopkins took over at its own 20 after a touchback on the punt. There were many penalties on both teams throughout the first half.  Hopkins was not able to get the first down again so they punted the ball to Minnetonka on fourth and nine.
 
Minnetonka got the ball back on the 42 yard line. Minnetonka’s Rooney had trouble passing the ball on a few plays as the defensive backs of Hopkins were able to tackle him in the back field.
 
Ian Cote came up with a 12-yard run for a first down. Witherspoon continued to chew up yards and was able to get in the red zone. Rooney had a pass intercepted and Hopkins took over back in their own zone.
 
Hopkins was not able to get a first down so they had to punt the ball on their own 14 yard line.
 
Minnetonka got the ball back and they threatened to score late in the second quarter. Witherspoon found the end zone on a two-yard touchdown run. The extra point attempt was good.
 
With just 59 seconds to play in the first half, that touchdown gave Minnetonka a 14-0 lead.
 
Minnetonka attempted a squib kick after the touchdown, and successfully recovered it.
 
Minnetonka got the ball near midfield and they looked to get the ball down field as quickly as they could.
 
Minnetonka called a timeout with 36 seconds left in the second quarter. Sikes came up with a 15 yard reception to give Minnetonka a first down. Sikes came up with another big play, going 30 yard reception for another first down. Mitch Felknor came up with a six yard touchdown reception. The extra point attempt was good.
 
The score after the touchdown was Minnetonka 21, Hopkins 0. That was also the score at the half.
 
Minnetonka kicked off to start the third quarter.  Hopkins got the ball on their own 28 yard line.  Hopkins continued to keep the ball on the ground early. Hopkins was not able to get their offense going in the first half. They looked to get it going early in the third. Hopkins punted the ball on the first drive of the quarter.  
 
Minnetonka looked to keep the ball into the hands of Barnes. Barnes continued to move well with the ball and chewed up yards on his running routes. Minnetonka got a first down on their first drive as they continued to run the ball down the field. They used multiple running backs throughout the game. Minnetonka fumbled the ball and Hopkins recovered.
 
Hopkins fumbled the ball and Jacob Bom for Minnetonka recovered the fumble on the 22 yard line on the next play. 
 
Rooney found Duff Smith for a 22 yard touchdown reception. The extra point attempt was good.
 
With 7:06 left in the third quarter the score was Minnetonka 28, Hopkins 0.
 
Minnetonka kicked off to Hopkins after the touchdown. Hopkins' Bill Atkins was all over the field for his team. Hopkins continued to have problems moving the ball on the offensive end of the field. Hopkins had to punt the ball away on fourth down and a mile.
 
Minnetonka got the ball deep in their own territory. Minnetonka kept the ball on the ground as they chipped away at gaining yards down the field. Minnetonka got a first down on a Witherspoon one yard carry.
 
After three quarters of play the score was Minnetonka 28, Hopkins 0.
 
Minnetonka looked to get the ball into the end zone early in the fourth quarter. They were able to do just that as Witherspoon found the end zone on a short yard run. The extra point attempt was good.
 
With 11:39 left in the fourth quarter the score was Minnetonka 35, Hopkins 0.
 
Minnetonka kicked off to Hopkins after the touchdown.  
 
Hopkins looked to DT Williams in the fourth quarter as they looked to get the ball down the field quickly.
 
Hopkins looked to score midway through the fourth quarter but Careino Gurley came up with the ball for Minnetonka on the turnover. On fourth-and-eight, Minnetonka punted the ball back to Hopkins.  
 
Minnetonka punted the ball and they recovered their own punt on the 7 yard line. A Hopkins player touched it. Minnetonka threatened to score but they turned it over on downs.
 
Minnetonka came away with the 35-0 victory over Hopkins.

MOUNDS VIEW WENT UP AGAINST EAST RIDGE IN A BASKETBALL GAME

In the second game of the day Mounds View went up against East Ridge. The tempo was slow by both teams.
 
It took awhile for each team to get used to what the other team was doing.
 
Mounds View swung the ball around the three-point line to take time off the clock. East Ridge played multiple defenses to try to confuse Mounds View on offense and they were able to do that.
 
The score went back and forth throughout first half; neither team went on a run. Both teams were evenly matched.
 
The score at halftime was tied at 28.
 
East Ridge came out on fire to start the second half. They strung some baskets together and were able to take a 33-28 lead early in the second half.
 
Mounds View didn’t back down however, as they continued to look to get to the basket by taking their time on the offensive end.
 
East Ridge did do a good job of getting baskets in transition on the fast break.
 
Mounds View was not afraid to shoot either the outside jump shot or the lay-up.  They were successful at making both shots.
 
Mounds View used both man-to-man and zone defenses throughout the contest. East Ridge used mostly man-to-man on the defensive end.
 
Mounds View called a timeout with 12:17 left in regulation. The score was East Ridge 45, Mounds View 33.
 
Mounds View continued to shoot the ball but it didn’t go in.
 
East Ridge did a good job of taking time off of the clock in the second half. They swung the ball around the three-point line as they looked for their shots that they wanted to get.
 
East Ridge was able to slow down the Mounds View offense in the second half.
 
East Ridge came away with the 68-50 victory over Mounds View.

NEW PRAGUE TOOK ON EAST RIDGE IN A BOYS’ BASKETBALL FALL LEAGUE GAME

Lakeville South high school put on a boys’ basketball fall league.
 
New Prague went up against East Ridge in the first game. East Ridge scored with ease early in the game. They looked a lot quicker that New Prague.
 
New Prague had many turnovers throughout the first half. East Ridge continued to attack the basket as they were able to get easy shots.
 
New Prague had trouble shooting the ball throughout the first half.
 
At halftime the score was East Ridge 33, New Prague 18.
 
Both teams continued to drive to the baskets as they looked to make shots. New Prague struggled to make shots throughout the second half as well.
 
East Ridge took advantage of their quickness as they were able to get many different easy looks at open layups in the game.
 
In a game that was a blow out from the start East Ridge came away the 73-41 victory over New Prague.
 

TARTAN TOOK ON RICHFIELD IN A HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL GAME

On Sept.13 Tartan took on Richfield in a football game. Tartan kicked off to Richfield to start the game. Richfield got the ball on their own 38 yard line.  Richfield’s Thomas Fallon found his receivers early as they looked to drive down the field. The Tartan defense stepped up big early as they were able to slow Richfield down on their first drive.  Richfield was not able to get a first down on their first drive so they had to punt the ball to Tartan.
 
Tartan kept on the ground on their first drive. Running back Keenen Bellaphant was all over the field for Tartan. He was able get past the Richfield defenders and gain big yards. Tartan threatened to score and they did just that as Bellaphant found the end zone on a 13-yard touchdown run. The extra point attempt was good.
 
With 4:18 left in the first quarter the score was Tartan 7, Richfield 0.
 
Richfield got the ball back after the touchdown and it was fumbled  the kickoff. Tartan got the ball on the three yard line. Tartan’s Leshon Lee found the endzone for a touchdown on a three yard run. The extra-point attempt was good.
 
With 3:59 left in the first quarter the score was Tartan 14, Richfield 0.
 
Tartan kicked off after the touchdown.  Richfield got the ball on their own 33 yard line. Richfield picked up a first down on a short route by Christian Frost. Frost was all over the field. Richfield picked up ten yards on a defensive holding penalty. They were not able to get a first down and they had to punt the ball to Tartan.
 
Tartan got the ball on their own 35 yard line. Bellaphant came up with a huge run that gave his team a first down. Tim McCarthy found Triston Richert for a touchdown but it was called back because of a penalty.
 
The score after one quarter of play was Tartan 14, Richfield 0.
 
Tartan kept the ball to start the second quarter. They threatened to score early in the second quarter.
 
Jake Paulson caught a seven-yard catch from McCarthy for a touchdown. The extra point attempt was good.
 
With 10:24 left in second quarter the score was Tartan 21, Richfield 0.
 
Tartan kicked off after the touchdown. Richfield got the ball on the 26 yard line. Luke Godfrey fumbled the ball for Richfield and Tartan recovered.
 
Tartan got the ball on the 26 yard line and Bellaphant found the end zone on a 26-yard run on the first play. The extra point attempt was good.
 
With 9:23 left in the second quarter the score was Tartan 28, Richfield 0.
 
Tartan kicked off after the touchdown. Richfield got the ball on their 48 yard line. Doma Morris for
Richfield was able to find holes in the defense and was able to gain some yards.
 
Richfield called a timeout with 7:10 left in the second quarter. The score remained Tartan 28, Richfield 0.
 
Richfield botched the punt so Tartan got the ball back on the recovery.
 
Tartan kept the ball on the ground. They were able to get first downs and chew up both yards. Tartan found the end zone on a 12-yard touchdown run by McCarthy.
 
The extra point attempt was good.
 
With 3:56 left in the second quarter the score was Tartan 35, Richfield 0.
 
Tartan kicked off after the touchdown. Richfield looked to pick up yards, and they did that as Thomas Fallon found Qu’id Walter for a 41-yard touchdown reception. The extra point attempt was no good.
 
With 2:24 left in the second quarter the score was Tartan 35, Richfield 6.
 
Richfield kicked off after the touchdown. Tartan kept the ball into the hands of Bellaphant, who was able to keep picking up first downs for his team.
 
At halftime the score was Tartan 35, Richfield 6.  
 
Richfield kicked off to start the third quarter. Tartan started with the ball on their own 38 yard line.
 
Tartan kept up with the running attack as they continued to pound the ball down the field. Bellaphant was able to give Tartan a first down. Bellaphant found the end zone on a 16-yard touchdown run.
 
The extra point attempt was good.
 
With 9:13 left in the third quarter the score was Tartan 42, Richfield 6.
 
Tartan kicked off after the touchdown. Richfield got the ball on the 32 yard line. Richfield was not able to get a first down so they had to punt the ball to Tartan.
 
Lee was able to continue to make plays in the second half. Tartan looked to get small yard plays that took a lot of time off the clock.
 
After three quarters of play the score was Tartan 42, Richfield 6.
 
Tartan got the ball to start the fourth quarter. They looked to get into the endzone and they were able to do that as Chris Graves found the end zone on a one-yard run. The extra point attempt was no good.
 
With 8:00 left in regulation the score was Tartan 48, Richfield 6.
 
Tartan kicked off after the touchdown.  Richfield got the ball and ran the clock on a long drive that didn’t get them anywhere.
 
In a hard-fought game Tartan came away with the 48-6 victory over Richfield.

NORTH TOOK ON WASHBURN IN A FOOTBALL GAME

On a bright, sunny, crisp afternoon, Minneapolis North went up against Minneapolis Washburn in a football game on Sept. 13. North entered play 1-1, while Washburn entered 2-0. Both teams looked focused and intense in their warm-ups.

North kicked off to Washburn to start the game.  Washburn got the ball on their own 33 yard line. Washburn looked to get the ball into the hands of Jeff Jones. Jones was Washburn’s main running back. Washburn got a first down on a Jones 35-yard run. Quarterback Morley Mathewson did a good job of getting the ball to his receivers. Washburn was not able to convert on fourth and six, so North took over on downs.
 
North got the ball on their own 30 yard line. North tried some short passing routes that they not able to convert on. On fourth down they punted the ball back to Washburn. Jones returned the ball to the North’s 34 yard line.
 
Jones continued to get the ball in clutch situations. Washburn continued to pick up first downs. The North defense didn’t give Washburn any easy plays. They were able to slow down the Washburn running backs. Mathewson was not afraid to keep the ball himself. If he thought that he saw a hole he was not afraid to penetrate the gaps and looked for yards.
 
Jones scored a touchdown on an 11 yard run with 4:40 left in the first quarter. The extra point attempt was good.
 
With 4:40 left in the first quarter the score was Washburn 7, North 0.
 
Washburn kicked off after the touchdown. North fumbled it and Washburn recovered it on the 30 yard line.
 
North called a timeout with 4:15 left in the first quarter.
 
Washburn threatened to score late in the first quarter. They got within the red zone often in the first quarter. Mathewson carried the ball on short yardage for a touchdown. The two point conversion was unsuccessful.
 
With 58 seconds left in the first quarter, the score was Washburn 13, North 0. That was also the score after one quarter of play.
 
North quarterback Tyler Johnson had difficulty getting the ball to his receivers.
 
Johnson was not able to find his receivers early in the second quarter. On their first drive of the quarter they had to punt the ball on fourth and long.
 
Washburn got the ball back on their own 48 yard line. North’s defense stepped up again and they had to punt the ball on fourth and long.
 
Laquan Carter came up with a long reception for a Washburn touchdown. The extra point attempt was good. With 11:22 left in the second quarter the score was Washburn 20, North 0.
 
Washburn kicked off after the touchdown. North got the ball back on their own 47 yard line. North continued to keep the ball on the ground. North running back Kevin Harris looked to gain yards after he was slowed down by the Washburn defenders. North punted the ball back to Washburn.
 
Jones once again got the ball in his hands and he was off to the races as he was able to pick up 25  yards that gave Washburn a first down. Mathewson came up with a huge run which set up a Jones touchdown with 5:27 left in the second quarter. The extra point attempt was good. That made the score Washburn 27, North 0.
 
Washburn kicked off after the touchdown. North kept the ground attack going late in the quarter. That was good for them as they found holes in the defense and they attacked them. North got the ball into the red zone late in the quarter and they looked to score. They did just that, as Tyler Johnson found the end zone with 1:34 left in the second quarter. The two point pass conversion to Marcus Jackson  was good.
 
With 1:34 left in the second quarter the score was Washburn 27, North 8.
 
North kicked off after the touchdown. They did an onside kick and they recovered the ball and got the ball on the 47 yard line.
 
North had trouble moving the ball and they were not able to get a first down as they turned it over on fourth down.
 
At halftime the score was Washburn 27, North 8.
 
Washburn kicked off to North to start the third quarter. North picked up a first down on their first drive of the quarter.  North looked to get into the end zone on their first drive of the quarter. Nate Hampton caught a pass from Johnson for a touchdown. The two point conversion was no good.
 
With 9:38 left in the third quarter, the score was Washburn 27, North 14.
 
North kicked off after the touchdown. Mathewson got the ball on the kickoff and was able to high step over his defenders as he picked up another first down for his team. On the next drive Washburn was not able to convert and they gave the ball back to North.
 
North switched off between running and passing plays as they were able to move the ball down the field late in the third quarter. Johnson fumbled the ball and Washburn recovered.
 
Washburn took over on their own 15 yard line. Mathewson picked up 15 yards for a first down that kept the clock and the chains moving. Jones got the ball into his hands and picked up another first down. On the next set of downs North slowed the offense down so Washburn punted the ball on fourth down.
 
North got the ball on their own 35 yard line and they ran out the clock.
 
After three quarters of play the score was Washburn 27, North 14.
 
Washburn got the ball as the fourth quarter got underway. Mathewson found Jones for a 40 yard touchdown reception. The extra point attempt was good.
 
With 10:21 left in regulation the score was Washburn 35, North 14.
 
Washburn kicked off after the touchdown. North got the ball on their own 20 yard line. There was a penalty on North that backed them up five yards. The Washburn defense stepped up and was able to slow the North’s offense.
 
Washburn got the ball on North’s 15 yard line. They looked to score midway through the fourth quarter.  LaQuan Quarter picked up a 14-yard run that set up a Jones 1-yard touchdown run. There was a penalty that nullified the touchdown. The penalty put Washburn back 10 yards but on the next play Jones found the endzone for a touchdown. The extra point attempt was no good.
 
With 7:23 left in regulation the score was Washburn 40, North 14.
 
North fumbled the kickoff and Washburn took over near midfield.
 
Washburn got the ball on North’s 29 yard line. Jones found the endzone for a 29-yard touchdown run. The extra point attempt was not good.
 
With 4:13 left in regulation the score was Washburn 46, North 14.
 
Washburn kicked off after the touchdown. North fumbled the ball and Mitchell Stentrum came up with the touchdown. The extra point attempt was not good.
 
It was a very fun game to watch. Both teams played hard. In the end Washburn came away with the 52-14 victory over North.
