MINOT STATE TOOK ON CONCORDIA ST. PAUL IN A FOOTBALL GAME

Sept. 7 was opening day at Sea Foam Stadium as Minot State squared off against Concordia St. Paul.

Concordia kicked off to start the contest. Minot State got the ball on their own 18 yard line. Minot State looked to keep the ball on the ground on their first drive. They were not able to get a first down on their first drive, so they punted the ball back to Concordia.

Concordia got the ball on their own 47 yard line. Quarterback Jered Russo kept the ball on the ground as he looked to get short yardage. They were able to get a first down. Concordia used both the running and passing attack well in the first quarter, as they did a good job of getting down the field. Corey Cole came up with some nice catches to give his team first downs. They found the end zone on a Tre Spears 1-yard touchdown run. James Peterson’s two-point conversion run was successful.

With 8:00 left in first quarter the score was Concordia 8, Minot State 0.

Minot got the ball back after the Concordia touchdown. Minot looked to gain short yardage on their next drive. They were not able to get a first down so they had to punt the ball to Concordia.

Concordia got the ball near midfield after the punt. Russo continued to look down the field and found Gabe Boyce for the first down. Jermaine Clemon also came up with a nice catch to move the chains. 

Minot got the ball back and the Concordia defense stepped up big as they were able to slow down their offense. Minot had to punt the ball on fourth and 14.

After one quarter of play the score was Concordia 8, Minot State 0.

Minot State took over on their own 32 yard line. Jarvis Mustipher came up with some nice plays for Minot State. He was able to run past the Concordia defensive players. Minot State called a timeout with 11:19 left in the second quarter. The Concordia defense came up with a big play and they got the ball back on turnovers on downs. 

Concordia got the ball on the on the 46 yard line and Gabe Boyce got a huge catch that he brought in as a touchdown. The extra point attempt was good.
With 9:20 left in the second quarter the score was Concordia 15, Minot State 0.

Minot State got the ball back on their own 27 yard line. Minot State continued to push the ball down the field as they were able to pick up first downs and kept the clock moving. Minot State tried a fake punt but they went for it instead as they came up with a first down. Minot State used some trick plays late in the second quarter, as they wanted to try to confuse Concordia.

Concordia got the ball back on the 20 yard line as they got the ball on turnovers on downs. Spears continued chew up yards for his team. Boyce got the ball and was able to get a first down. Cooper Helm for Minot State came up with an interception on the four yard line.

Minot State got the ball back late in the quarter on the interception and ran out the clock.

At halftime the score was Concordia 15, Minot State 0.

Minot State kicked off to start the third quarter. Concordia got the ball on their own 28 yard line.

Cordell Smith caught a pass for a 67-yard touchdown reception. The extra point attempt was good.

With 13:06 left in the third quarter the score was Concordia 22, Minot State 0.

Concordia kicked off after the touchdown. Minot State got the ball on their own 20 yard line. 

Minot State’s Randel Barber came up with a lot of rushing yards. Minot State was not able to get a first down so they had to punt the ball on fourth down.

Concordia got the ball back on the Minot State 31 yard line. Concordia tried a 48 yard field goal attempt but the field goal failed.

Minot State got the ball back on their own 31 yard line. The Concordia defense stepped up big as Minot State was not able to get a first down. They had to punt the ball on fourth down and 11 yards to go.

Concordia got the ball back and Spears came up with a big 33-yard run. Spears seemed to get injured on the play and was attended to by the trainers. He twisted his ankle and took a series off.

Zollicoffer came up with a huge 27-yard catch for a touchdown, the two point conversion was good. 


With 7:11 left in the third quarter the score was Concordia 27, Minot State 0.

Minot State got the ball back after the touchdown. They were not able to get a first down so they punted the ball back to Concordia.

Concordia continued to keep the ball on the ground. They were not able to get a first down so they punted the ball back to Minot State. Minot State got the ball on their own 17 yard line.

At the end of the third quarter the score was Concordia 29, Minot State 0.

Concordia got the ball to start the fourth quarter. They threatened to score at the start of the quarter. Concordia went for it on fourth down and nine yards to go. They were not able to convert.

Minot State got the ball back on downs. They had trouble coming up with receptions as they were not able to come up with big plays. Minot State punted the ball on fourth down and two.

Concordia kept the ball on the ground again as they kept on getting first downs. They were not able to get a first down so they had to punt the ball back to Minot.

 In a hard fought game Concordia came away with the 29-0 victory over Minot State.
