HOPE ACADEMY WENT UP AGAINST MINNEAPOLIS ROOSEVELT IN A GIRLS’ BASKETBALL GAME

Minneapolis Roosevelt was the place for the Martin Luther King Basketball Classic. In the first game it was Hope Academy against Minneapolis Roosevelt.

Hope started the game out in a zone defense. It took awhile for each team to get into a shooting rhythm. Hope swung the ball around the 3-point line to take time off the clock.

The score went back and forth early. Neither team went on a run at the start.

Roosevelt called a timeout with 14:04 left in the first half. The score was Hope Academy 4, Roosevelt 3.

Hope’s Abigail Carlisle came up with mid-range jump shots and layups. Her teammates were able to get her the ball in spots where she could make it.

Roosevelt called a timeout with 11:01 left in the first half. The score was Hope Academy 12, Roosevelt 5.

Even though Roosevelt struggled shooting the ball they kept on attacking the basket.

Hope Academy called a timeout with 6:29 left in the first half. The score was Hope Academy 19, Roosevelt 13.

Both teams dove on the floor after loose balls. There were many jump balls in the first half.

Hope Academy called a timeout with 4:44 left in the first half. The score was Hope Academy 19, Roosevelt 15.

Roosevelt’s Maya Reichert-Giron came up with steals and turned them into layups on the offensive end. Roosevelt’s Jaida Walker also stepped up and knocked down deep three-point shots.

At halftime the score was Roosevelt 26 Hope Academy 20.

Hope Academy’s Ella Pritchard came up with layups and mid-range jump shots. The defense had a tough time slowing her down.

As the second half got underway both teams attacked the basket.

Hope Academy called a timeout with 16:16 left in regulation. The score was Roosevelt 28, Hope Academy 22.

The score went back and forth throughout the second half. Neither team went on a run.

Roosevelt called a timeout with 12:01 left in regulation. The score was Roosevelt 32, Hope Academy 31.

Hope Academy went to a full court press. They looked to turn Roosevelt over and come up with layups off the turnovers.

As the second half wound down both teams played hard throughout the game. Neither team gave up.

Hope Academy called a timeout with 7:20 left in regulation. The score was Roosevelt 42, Hope Academy 39.

Roosevelt continued their full court press. They also looked to trap Hope Academy when they brought the ball across the mid court line.

Roosevelt called a timeout with 4:57 left in regulation. The score was Roosevelt 44, Hope Academy 41.

Both teams fought hard throughout the game. Neither team gave up or gave up easy baskets.

Hope Academy called a timeout with 2:54 left in regulation. The score was Roosevelt 48, Hope Academy 41.

Roosevelt kept on pushing the floor. Hope Academy ran out of gas late in the game.

Roosevelt came away with the 56-51 victory over Hope Academy.

The leading scorer for Hope Academy were Pritchard with 14 points and Carlisle with 11 points.

The leading scorers for Roosevelt were Jamelia Wright with 16 points and Precious Smith with 15 points.
