MINNESOTA TRANSITIONS CHARTER WENT UP AGAINST GROVES ACADEMY IN A BOYS’ SECTION GAME

On March 2, Minnesota Transitions Charter School (MTS) and Groves Academy went up against each other in a section boys’ basketball game. 

Groves started the game in a zone defense. That made MTS swing the ball around the 3-point line. MTS also started the game in a zone defense. 

Both teams took a lot of time off the clock as each team played zone defense early. 

Groves Emory Harden came up with layups and mid-range jump shots. If Harden didn’t think that he had an open shot, he would pass it to one of his teammates. 

Groves took a lot of time off the clock by swinging the ball around the 3-point line. MTS was able to attack the basket and was able to get looks at the shots. 

It took a while for each of the offenses going. Not a lot of shots were taken on the offensive end. The zone defense made it difficult for both teams to get an open look at the basket. 

Groves guard Gabe Gordon looked to come up with layups and mid-range jump shots. His teammates were able to get him the ball in spots where they could shoot it. 

Groves did a good job on the offensive end of sharing the ball. They were able to pass the ball well and get everyone involved in the offense.  

Groves called a timeout with 12:35 left in the first half. The score was MTS 9, Groves 4. 

MTS Anthony Key took the ball strong to the basket. He looked to make layups in transition. 

Even though Groves struggled shooting the ball they kept on looking for their shots. 

Groves switched between man-to-man and their zone defense throughout the first half. 

MTS guard Lashone Patterson came off screens and was able to come up with layups in transition. 

Groves’ Danny Berthoud came up with deep 3-point shots. His teammates were able to get him the ball in 

MTS called a timeout with 7:54 left in the first half. The score was MTS 19, Groves 10. 

MTS guard Linday Brown came up with steals and layups. He was able to get the basket and came up with shots. Teammate Jaquan Robertson came up with 3-point shots late in the first half. 

MTS continued to get the ball into Patterson’s hands as he looked to come up with mid-range jump shots and layups. 

Both teams kept on shooting the ball late in the first half. 

After a slow start offensively, Groves was able to step up and knock down shots late in the first half. 

MTS guard James Lee came up with jump shots and layups late in the first half that kept his team in the game. 

At halftime, the score was MTS 41, Groves 21. 

As the second half got underway Groves stayed in their zone defense. 

MTS looked to get the ball into Patterson and Robertson’s hands. Both Patterson and Robertson came up with shots that kept them in the game. 

Robertson kept on making deep 3-point shots. He was also able to come up with layups and mid-range jump shots. The defense had a hard time slowing him down on the defensive end. Roberson was also able to knock down free throws as well. 

Both teams went after the ball. When MTS was on offense everyone was in the lane looking for the ball as one person shot the ball. 

Groves looked to come up with rebounds and push the ball down the floor. 

Groves called a timeout with 12:56 left in regulation. The score was MTS 58, Groves 28.   

MTS took their time on the offense as everyone got into the offense. 

Patterson came up with shots midway through the second half. He did a good job of talking to his teammates on both ends of the floor. 

Groves Gabe Gordon came up with shots throughout the game. His teammates were able to get him the ball in spots where he could shoot it.

MTS called a timeout with 7:36 left in regulation. The score was MTS 69, Groves 42. 

MTS looked to stall on the offensive end. They held the ball and Groves applied ball pressure as they looked to turn MTS over. 

MTS attacked the basket and came up with shots throughout the game. They were ale to slow Groves down on both ends of the floor.

MTS used their quickness to get past the Groves defense. They were able to shut down the Groves offense early.

Both teams played hard throughout the game. Groves struggled to shoot the ball. Even though Groves struggled shooting the ball they kept on attacking the basket late in the game. 

MTS came away with the 81-49 victory over Groves.

The leading scorers for Groves were Gordon with 12 points, Alfie Galle with 11 points and Hall. The leading scorers for MTS were Patterson with 26 points, and Robertson with 24 points.
