KOCH, FAROKHMANESH EARN MVC MEN’S BASKETBALL WEEKLY HONORS

Koch, a 6-8 junior from Ashwaubenon, Wis., had 13 points, nine rebounds and a career-high five assists at Creighton Jan. 6, helping the Panthers to a 69-66 win. It was UNI’s first victory in Omaha since the 1995-96 season. Then, on Jan. 10 against Missouri State, Koch had a career-high 22 points and posted his third double-double of the season with 11 rebounds, in the 78-64 victory over the Bears. For the week, Koch averaged 17.5 points, 10.0 rebounds and 4.5 assists per game, while shooting 61 percent from the field (11-for-18).

Farokhmanesh, who hails from Iowa City, Iowa, averaged 15.5 points and shot 60 percent from the field in the two UNI wins last week. The 6-0 junior college transfer from Kirkwood Community College had 18 points in the Panthers’ victory at Creighton, while also adding three assists. His baseline jumper with 1:14 left gave UNI the lead for good against CU, and he made two free throws with nine seconds left to push the Panthers to a three-point lead. Against Missouri State, Farokhmanesh scored 13 points and also had three assists, making 5-of-7 shots from the field and 3-of-5 on three pointers. Over the two games, he was 12-for-20 from the floor and was 5-for-11 (46 percent) on three-pointers, while dishing out six assists with just two turnovers.

Winners of four games in a row, UNI (10-6, 4-1 Missouri Valley Conference) plays at Evansville (11-4, 3-2 MVC) tomorrow night (Jan. 13), with tip off from Roberts Stadium set for 7:05 pm.
