TEXAS CHRISTIAN UNIVERSITY WENT UP AGAINST THE UNIVERSITY OF MINNESOTA IN A NONCONFERENCE FOOTBALL GAME

On Sept. 3 the TCF Bank was rocking as the Minnesota Golden Gophers hosted Texas Christian University (TCU).

TCU kicked off to Minnesota to start the game. The kickoff went into the end zone for a touchback.

Minnesota started on their own 25-yard line. Minnesota moved the ball down the field as quarterback Mitch Leidner was able to get the ball into the hands of Rodrick Williams who picked up a first down. The Minnesota offense stalled and they punted on 4th-and-8.

TCU started on their own 9-yard line. TCU used both the passing and running attack on their first drive of the game. TCU’s Ja’Jauan Story came up with a reception that kept the TCU drive going. Emanual Porter came up with a 10-yard reception for a first down. TCU did a good job of getting past the Minnesota defense. TCU quarterback Trevone Boykin was all over the field. He was able to get the ball into his receiver’s hands as they came up with big plays. Minnesota’s Steven Richardson came up with a huge sack on the quarterback for a 5-yard loss.

TCU called a timeout with 7:03 left in the first quarter. The score was tied at 0.

On 4th-and-12 TCU’s Janden Oberkrom attempted a 53-yard field goal attempt by was good.

With 6:58 left in the first quarter the score was TCU 3, Minnesota 0.

Minnesota took over on their own 25-yard line after the kick went into the end zone. 

Minnesota fumbled the ball on a sack and TCU recovered the ball. TCU found the end zone on a Boykin found Doctson on an 11-yard touchdown reception. The extra-point attempt was good.

With 5:46 left in the first quarter the score was TCU 10, Minnesota 0.

Minnesota started on its own 20-yard line. Minnesota couldn’t get a first down and elected to punt on 4th-and-1.

TCU took over on their own 27-yard line. TCU did a good job of moving the ball down the field against the Minnesota defense. TCU mixed up their running and passing attack as they looked to confuse the Minnesota defense. Minnesota couldn’t move the ball on the drive and punted on 4th-and-8.

After one quarter of play the score was TCU 10, Minnesota 0.

TCU looked to get into the end zone early in the second quarter. TCU’s Aaron Green fumbled the ball and Minnesota recovered it.

Minnesota couldn’t get a first down and they punted on 4th-and-7.

TCU’s offense sputtered and they punted on 4th-and-8.

Minnesota got the ball back on their own 40-yard line. Minnesota’s K J May came up with a huge 36-yard reception for a first down. Minnesota turned the ball over and TCU couldn’t get a first down and punted on 4th down.

Minnesota took over on their own 45-yard line. Minnesota’s Rodney Smith came up with some big carries. He was able to get past the defense. Minnesota attempted a 42-yard field goal attempt by Ryan Santoso was good.

With 5:22 left in the second quarter the score was TCU 10, Minnesota 3.

TCU continued to look deep down the field as they looked to get into the end zone late in the second quarter.

TCU’s Oberkrom attempted a 29-yard field goal with 23 seconds left in the second quarter was not good.

At halftime the score was TCU 10, Minnesota 3.

Minnesota kicked off to start the third quarter. TCU looked to air the ball out on their first drive of the third quarter. TCU’s Boykin rushed 19 yards for a touchdown. The extra-point attempt was good.

With 12:03 left in the third quarter the score was TCU 17, Minnesota 3.

Minnesota started on their own 25-yard line. Minnesota kept the ball on the ground on the drive.

Minnesota couldn’t get a first down and they punted the ball away.

TCU couldn’t move the ball and Minnesota got the ball back. Minnesota moved the ball down the field as they looked to get the ball into the end zone. Minnesota’s Rodney Smith got a 1-yard touchdown run. The extra point attempt was good.

With 3:44 left in the third quarter the score was TCU 17, Minnesota 10.

TCU continued to move the ball down the field as they looked to get into the end zone.

On 4-12 TCU’s Janden Oberkrom attempted a 53-yard field goal and it was good.

With 36 seconds left in the third quarter the score was TCU 20, Minnesota 10. That would be the score after three quarters of play.

Both teams traded possessions throughout the second half.

TCU scored on a safety with 10:01 left in the fourth quarter. That made the score TCU 22, Minnesota 10.

Oberkrom attempted a 33 yard field goal which was good. With 7:33 left in the fourth quarter the score was TCU 23, Minnesota 10.

Minnesota moved the ball quickly down the field as Leidner found May for a 22-yard touchdown.

The extra point attempt was good. With 1:32 left in the fourth quarter the score was TCU 23, Minnesota 17. That was the final of the game.
