THE BIRDS GO AT IT AS THE OSSEO ORIOLES TOOK ON THE COON RAPIDS CARDINALS IN A BOYS’ BASKETBALL CONTEST


The Orioles of Osseo took on the Cardinals of Coon Rapids in the first Northwest Suburban Conference game of the season for Osseo. Osseo came into the game with a record of 1-0 and were ranked number 4 in the state in class AAAA. Coon Rapids was 0-2.


The game got started off to a fast as each team looked to push the ball down the court.


Coon Rapids came out in a zone defense. They looked to slow Osseo down from the start of the game.


Osseo looked to push the ball and score in transition. Their guards did a good job of getting the ball out of the basket and getting it up the court.


Terez VanPelt for Osseo was able to dribble right around his defenders. They had a hard time defending him. Terez was one of the quicker guards on the team.


Coon Rapids went on a run. They were able to string together some points. Osseo was not able put the ball in the basket for a period of time.


Osseo went into a full court press. They wanted to disrupt Coon Rapids on the offensive end.


Osseo went on a run. They were able to turn Coon Rapids over and capitalize on their mistakes.


Osseo looked to get the ball into Will Johnson who was posted up on the inside block. Johnson was able to go up strong with the ball and score baskets inside.


Coon Rapids forced the ball inside as they looked for Omot Okwan to get the ball inside. Okwan did a good job of getting baskets inside.


Michael Fischer for Osseo came up with a few nice steals. He was able to get his teammates assists, as they were able to finish the shots that they were putting up.


At halftime the score was Osseo 32 and Coon Rapids 22.


As the second half got underway Osseo wanted to apply pressure.


Osseo kept on looking for Johnson for his inside presence. They used a lot of time off the clock. Osseo was able to stall on the offensive end.


Coon Rapids didn’t give up. They kept going after Osseo. Malcom Farley did a good job of running the offense for Coon Rapids. Okwan also came up with some big baskets in the second half.


Osseo was just too much for Coon Rapids. Osseo came away with the 80-52 victory over Coon Rapids.
