BURNSVILLE TOOK ON BEMIDJI IN A CLASS AAA MSHSL STATE BASEBALL QUARTERFINAL GAME

Burnsville took on Bemidji in the Class AAA Minnesota State High School League state baseball tournament at Midway Stadium. Burnsville came into the game with a record of 21-3 while Bemidji had a record of 18-9.

The starting pitcher for Burnsville was Quinn Johnson and for Burnsville the starting pitcher was Zach Solheim. 

TOP OF THE FIRST INNING

Dan Motl was the first batter up for Burnsville. He bounced to the shortstop who threw him out at first base.

Andy Lieser bounced the ball to the pitcher who threw him out at first base.

Matt Stemper bounced to the shortstop who threw it over to the first baseman who tagged him out at first.

BOTTOM OF THE FIRST INNING

Mitch Hendricks led off the bottom of the first inning for Bemidji. He grounded out to the second baseman who threw him out at first.

Collin Leif struck out swinging.

Tyler Follis struck out swinging.

At the end of the first inning the score was tied at 0.

TOP OF THE SECOND INNING

Derek Johnson hit a bouncer up the middle and got on to first base with a single.

Derek Johnson advanced to second on a wild pitch

Justin Therkeld reached second on an error on the left field and Johnson scored from second base.

Tyler Hanson hit a blooper to center field and Justin Therkeld advanced to third.

Bo Hellquist got a triple. Tyler Hanson and Justin Therkeld both scored.

Brian Vanderwoude struck out on a called third strike.

Tyler Hill Jr. hit a bouncer to right field and Bo Hellquist scored.

Tyler Hill Jr. stole second base.

Dan Motl hit a blooper up the middle of the field and there was an error on the play and Tyler Hill Jr. scored.

Dan Motl was picked off at first base for the second out of the inning.

Andy Lieser got a single to right field.

Matt Stemper got a single and reached second off the throw to third. Andy Lieser reached third base.

Derek Johnson struck out swinging.

BOTTOM OF THE SECOND INNING

Cody Jenkins flew out to center field.

Cody Rutledge struck out swinging.

Mason Bellew struck out looking.

TOP OF THIRD INNING

Justin Threkeld walked.

Tyler Hanson hit a liner to mid left field. Hanson reached second base and Therkled reached third.

Bo Hellquist hit a bouncer to left field, Justin Threkeld scored and Tyler Hanson reached third.

Brian Vanderwoude hit a grounder to right field and Tyler Hanson scored.

After that hit, Bemidji switched pitchers Jeremiah Graves came into pitch.
Brian Vanderwoude stole second base.

Tyler Hill hit a single Brian Vanderwoude scored .

Tyler Hill reached third base on a throwing error.

Dan Motl walked.

Andy Lieser hit a bouncer to first and Tyler Hill scored.

Matt Stemper hit a chopper to third base and was thrown out at first base.

Derek Johnson hit a bouncer up the middle up the field and two runs scored.

Justin Therkeld hit a bouncer up the middle of the field. Derek Johnson reached second base.

Tyler Hanson flew out to the second baseman.

BOTTOM OF THE THIRD INNING

Brandon Larson hit a bouncer to second base and was thrown out at first base.

Sam Dwyer was called out on strikes.

Dom Hayle struck out swinging.

TOP OF THE FOURTH INNING

Bo Hellquist hit a bouncer to the shortstop who threw him out at first base.

Brian Vanderwoude flew out to the center fielder.

Tyler Hill Jr. walked.

Dan Motl hit a grounder to left field on an error that allowed Tyler Hill to reach third base and Motl to reach second base.

Andy Lieser hit a chopper to the first baseman who made an error on the play. Both Tyler Hill and Dan Motl scored.

Matt Stemper flew out.

BOTTOM OF THE FIFTH INNING

Cody Jenkins struck out.

Cody Rutledge hit a single to center field.

Mason Bellew hit a single to right field.

Brandon Larson struck out swinging.

Sam Dwyer struck out.

Burnsville came away with the 13-0 victory over Bemidji.

Burnsville came up big in the second and third innings where they were able to get their bats on the balls and come up and score some runs.

Bemidji had trouble throughout the game hitting and they came up short as they were not able to score a run.

The Minnesota State High School League had a rule that if a team is up by10 runs or more in the bottom of the fifth inning the game will be called. That is why the game only went five innings.
