RICHARD LEONARD “RICK” ADELMAN INTRODUCED TO THE TWIN CITIES MEDIA AND TIMBERWOLVES FANS

Richard Leonard "Rick" Adelman was introduced to the Twin Cities media on Wednesday September 28, 2011. Adelman is the 10th head coach in Minnesota Timberwolves history.

Adelman has served as a head coach for four different NBA teams, Portland (1988-94), Golden State (1995-97) and Houston (2007-11).

Coming into the 2011-2012 basketball season Adelman ranks 8th on the all time winning coaching list and second behind Denver's George Karl among active coaches with 945 wins.

At the press conference Adelman said that he was excited to get to work and get to know the team. Because the NBA is currently in a lockout he couldn't comment on any certain player. He could only speak in general terms. He said that he doesn’t know what type of team he is getting. He also thought that the offense that the Wolves used as good in past seasons. Adelman thought that the team will have to get better on the defensive end. That's where he will focus most of his attention to begin the season whenever that happens.

Adelman wants to have a healthy relationship with his staff and his players. David Kahn maintained that this was a business decision not a friendly one. Kahn and Adelman have known each other for many years as they have both worked for the league in different capacities.

Adelman began coaching basketball at Chemeketa Community College in Salem, Oregon. During his time at Chemeketa he had a record of 141-39 in six season (1977-83). At the helm of Chemeketa they won or shared three Oregon community college championships and a regional title.

Adelman also spent seven seasons as a player with the San Diego Rockets, Portland Trail Blazers, Chicago Bulls, New Orleans Jazz and the Kansas City-Omaha Kings.

He began playing basketball at St. Pius High School which is located in Downey, California. Adelman attended Loyola Marymount University in Los Angles.
