LAKEVILLE NORTH TOOK ON CRETIN-DERHAM HALL IN THE 2011 MINNESOTA STATE HIGH SCHOOL LEAGUE STATE FOOTBALL QUARTERFINAL GAME

A battle of two unbeaten high school football teams took to the Metrodome field in the 2011 Minnesota State High School League state football tournament. Lakeville North and Cretin-Derham Hall faced off against each other in a quarterfinal state football game. Both of these teams came into the game with a record of 10-0.

Lakeville North kicked off to Cretin-Derham Hall to start the game. Cretin-Derham Hall started with the ball on the 20 yard line. They looked to keep the ball on the ground on the opening drive. Cretin-Derham Hall was not able to get a first down and they punted it on fourth down.

On second down Lakeville North fumbled the ball and Cretin-Derham Hall recovered it on the 36 yard line. Cretin-Derham Hall tried to run the ball and get short yardage. James Onwualu came up with a good catch to set up a touchdown by Connor Rhoda. The extra point attempt was good.

With 7:24 left in the first quarter the score was Cretin-Derham Hall 7 and Lakeville North 0.

Cretin-Derham Hall kicked off after the touchdown. The ball went into the end zone so Lakeville North got the ball on the 20 yard line.

Lakeville North kept the ball on the ground. Lakeville was able to get a first down. They threatened to score late in the quarter. Joel Oxton came up with a nice catch and was able to set up a touchdown. Joel Oxton received a pass for a touchdown. There was an infraction on the play. The touchdown stood. The extra point attempt was no good.

With 2:02 left in the first quarter the score was Cretin-Derham Hall 7 and Lakeville North 6. That was the score at the end of the first quarter.

Lakeville North called a timeout with 13 seconds left in the first quarter.

Lakeville North got the ball to start the second quarter. Lakeville North turned the ball over on downs.

Lakeville North's Trey Heid ran for 2 yards for a touchdown with 1:49 left in the second quarter. The two point conversion was not good.

The score at halftime was Lakeville North 12 and Cretin-Derham Hall 7.

Cretin-Derham Hall kicked off to start the third quarter. Lakeville was not able to get a first down so they had to punt the ball away on fourth down.

Cretin-Derham Hall's James Onwualu scored on a 30 yard touchdown run. The two point conversion was good.

With 7:10 left in the third quarter the score was Cretin-Derham Hall 15 and Lakeville North 12.

Cretin-Derham Hall kicked off after the touchdown. Kevin Eskuri scored a touchdown with 4:51 left in the third quarter the extra point attempt was good. The score after the touchdown was Lakeville North 19 and Cretin-Derham Hall 15.

Cretin-Derham Hall kept the ball on the ground. The running attack worked well against the Lakeville North's defense.

Lakeville North got the ball back and threatened to score late in the quarter. Lakeville North found the end zone on a field goal attempt with 1:17 by Trey Heid. With that field goal the score was Lakeville North 22 and Cretin-Derham Hall 15.

Cretin-Derham Hall got the ball after the touchdown.

The score after the third quarter was Lakeville North 22 and Cretin-Derham Hall 15.

Cretin-Derham Hall's James Onwualu found the end zone with 9:09 left in the fourth quarter for a touchdown. The extra point attempt was good. With that touchdown the score was tied at 22.

Lakeville North got the ball back after the touchdown. Lakeville North had to punt the ball on fourth down.

Cretin-Derham drove on the offensive end. They threatened to score late in the quarter. Zach Hager attempted a 21 yard field goal and made it.

Cretin-Derham Hall came away with the 25-22 victory over Lakeville North.

After the game I was able to talk to Creatin-Derham Hall head coach MikeScanlan and players Zach Hager and James Onwualu about the game.

Coach Mike Scanlan said,” We stopped them for a field goal. Thought our kids played well. A good football game. Lakeville North is a good team. One of the best teams that they have seen all year.”

James Onwualu said that, “It was an exciting game the line man knew Lakeville North was going to come out hard.”

Zach Hager said, "We knew was going to be a battle.”
