BENILDE-ST.MARGARET’S TOOK ON HOLY ANGELS IN A BOYS’ BASKETBALL GAME

The Benilde-St.Margaret’s (BSM) Red Knights took on the Holy Angels Stars in a nonconference basketball game.

BSM wanted to set the pace early in the game. They wanted to get the ball into Peter Crawford’s hands.

Neither team was able to make shots in the early going. BSM looked to score baskets in transition. As soon as they got a rebound on the Holy Angels basket the ball was put into the guard’s hands and he was up the floor. Peter Crawford led the break for most of the first half.

Holy Angels had a period where they turned the ball over for a period of time in the first half. BSM did a good job of converting points out of Holy Angels turnovers.

Holy Angels did make a run back at BSM with 10:00 left to go. They were able to slow down BSM for a bit. They wanted to do this because they didn’t want them to get too big of a lead.

After coming out cold to start the game Holy Angels did find their shots.

BSM’s Sanjay Lumpkin came in and was able to knock down some shots and he also made some nice passes to his open teammates.

Both teams dove after loose balls. They were playing aggressively throughout the first half.

BSM’s Seth Marx continued to knock down open three-point shots. He also was not afraid to pass up a jump shot if his teammate was open under the basket for an easier shot.

Holy Angels Cole Frechette was able to knock down some nice shots. At halftime the score was Benilde-St. Margaret’s 43 and Holy Angels 29.

As the second half got underway Holy Angels was on the comeback trail. They were able to knock down some quick shots to begin the second half.

Both teams played aggressively. There were hard fouls committed by each team. No one lost their cool when they got fouled. The intensity of the game showed in the players as they went all out.

Myles Barnes for BSM used a nice little drop step and powered the ball up strong to the basket. He was determined to get the ball in the basket.

With 11:08 left in regulation Seth Marx got a technical foul for slapping the back board. Holy Angels made the free throw shots and that made the score Benilde-St.Margaret’s 59 and Holy Angels 42.

I really thought the student sections from each of these schools had fun. They were engaged in chants encouraging their own schools. They had fun and provided good school spirit throughout the game.

With 25 seconds left to go in the game the scoreboard went blank. The BSM athletic staff was able to fix the scoreboard and the game got finished.

Benilde-St.Margaret’s was able to come away with the 81-60 victory over Holy Angels. BSM was just too aggressive. They were able to knock down shots. Holy Angels started out cold and they were not able to get their offense clicking until later in the game.
