ANOKA TOOK ON WAYZATA IN THE STATE CLASS AA FINALS OF THE SOCCER TOURNAMENT

Anoka and Wayzata went up against each other at St. Cloud State University in the Class AA finals of the Minnesota State High School League’s championship game.

Wayzata looked to move the ball quickly down the field.

Both teams played tough on the defensive end. They both went after the ball. Neither team got an easy open shot on goal early in the first half of the game.

Anoka had chances to score in the last 20 minutes of the first half.

Wayzata found the back of the net on an Arthur Parens goal with 13 minutes left in the first half.

With 13 minutes left in the first half the score was Wayzata 1, Anoka 0.

Wayzata continued to attack the goal late in the first half.

At halftime the score was Wayzata 1, Anoka 0.

As the second half got underway Anoka was on the offensive as they did all they could to try to get the ball into the goal.

Anoka’s Joshua Dobler scored a goal with 36:39 left in regulation. With Dobler’s goal that tied the score at 1.

Both teams continued to attempt to score goals midway through the second half. They each had chances.

Both teams were able to get to the ball as they were able to gain control of the ball.

The game was tied at 1 after regulation.

As the overtime period got underway both teams continued attack the net. Both teams were evenly matched throughout game.

No one scored in the first overtime period. There was a second overtime period.

As the second overtime got underway both teams kept on doing what they were good at, attacking the goal.

Neither team was able to score in either of the overtime periods.

Anoka’s Mchael Torbort won the game in the shootout.

Anoka came away with the 1-0 shootout victory.

With the 1-0 victory Anoka won the class AA boys’ soccer state title.
