ANOKA WENT UP AGAINST MAPLE GROVE IN A BOYS’ SOCCER GAME

St. Cloud State University was the site of the 2014 Minnesota State High School League state soccer tournament.

Anoka and Maple Grove squared off in the semifinals of the 2014 Class AA state boys’ soccer tournament.

Both teams did a good job of getting the ball down the field. Maple Grove was a very physical team.

They did a good job of going after the ball.

With 16:45 left in the first half Anoka’s Conner Hudalla scored a goal on a direct free kick.

With that goal that made the score Anoka 1, Maple Grove 0.

Anoka kept on going after the ball and looking to score another goal.

Both teams did a good job of keeping the ball moving up and down the field. Nobody gave up on the ball.

At halftime the score was Anoka 1, Maple Grove 0.

As the second half got underway Maple Grove continued to move the ball down the field. They did a good job communicating with each other and letting them know where they were supposed to be on the field.

Maple Grove had chances to score midway through the second half.

Maple Grove’s Ben Zaver scored a goal with 13:05 left in regulation. With Zaver’s goal that tied the score at 1.

The score was tied at 1 after the end of regulation.

As the overtime period got underway Anoka’s Lencho Ahmed came up with a huge shot on goal but missed to the right.

There was no scoring in the first overtime period.

With 7:35 left in the second overtime Anoka’s Felipe Genchi scored the game-winning goal.

Anoka came away with the 2-1 overtime victory over Maple Grove.
