EDINA AND MOUNDS VIEW WENT UP AGAINST EACH OTHER IN A BOYS BASKETBALL GAME

On Jan. 11 at Roseville High School Edina took on Mounds View in a boys basketball game. Edina started the game in a zone defense. Mounds View started in man-to-man.
 
The score went back and forth early on in the contest. Both teams played tough defense.
 
Edina’s Max Lynch took the ball hard to the basket. He was able to get the ball on the low block and was able to make layups.
 
Mounds View called a timeout with 11:20 left in the first half. The score was Edina 14, Mounds View 7.
 
Edina did a good job of getting the ball down the floor. They were able to hit baskets in transition.
Mounds View’s Ryan Kaczynski was not afraid to shoot the ball from anywhere within the three-point line.  He was able to make his mostly two point shots that he took in the first half. His teammates did a good job of getting him the ball where he could make it.
 
After a slow start Mounds View was able to get within one with 5:35 left in the first half. Edina called a timeout with 5:32 to go. The score was Edina 23, Mounds View 22.
 
Kaczynski continued to hit shots throughout the first half. Mounds View had a difficult time slowing him down on the offensive end.
 
Edina’s Ben Boon got hot late in the first half as he was able to step up and knock down some deep three-point shots.
 
Mounds View made a run late in the first half. At halftime the score was Edina 34, Mounds View 31.
 
Edina continued to look to push the ball down the floor in the second half. They were not afraid however to work the ball around the three-point line to take time off the clock.
 
There were many ties and lead changes throughout the game. After the first 4:00 of the game both
teams got a handle on what the other team was doing and both teams were evenly matched.
 
Mounds View’s Ben Spencer was able to step back behind the three-point line and knock down some deep shots.
 
Edina continued to attack the basket midway through the second half.
 
Both teams took their time of the offensive end in the second half, as they worked the ball around the three-point line.  
 
There were several ties and lead changes in the second half.
 
Mounds View switched between man-to-man and zone defense late in the second half. They were able to keep Edina on their toes. Edina however was able to get past their defense and hit shots.
 
In a hard-fought game Mounds View came away with the 74-63 victory over Edina.
 
The leading scorer for Edina was Boone with 19 points and the leading scorer for Mounds View was Kaczynski with 27 points.
