SPRING LAKE PARK TOOK ON CHAMPLIN PARK IN A BOYS BASKETBALL GAME

On Jan. 15 it was a blustery night in the metro area so I still decide to go out and cover the Spring Lake Park Champlin Park basketball game.

Spring Lake Park started out in a zone defense. They look to force Champlin Park to take long shots.

The score went back and forth early in the contest. Neither team went on a run early.

Spring Lake Park’s TC Robinson did a good job of running his team’s offense.  He called out plays that he wanted run and was able to get his teammates in spots where they were supposed to be.

Spring Lake Park called a timeout with 11:41 left in the first half. The score was Champlin Park 20 Spring Lake Park 15.

Champlin Park’s Jeremy Johnson and Ian Smith were on all over the floor on the offensive end. They shared the ball well as they each hit shots that they put up. Champlin Park passed the ball around the three-point line to take time off the clock in the first half. Teammate J.T. Gibson took the ball hard to the basket. He was able to hit shots from both inside and outside of the three-point line.

Spring Lake Park made some costly turnovers midway through the first half. Champlin Park was able to score baskets in the turnovers.

Spring Lake Park called a timeout with 4:36 left in the first half. The score was Champlin Park 40, Spring Lake Park 24.

Spring Lake Park’s Collin Price found the basket in the first half as well. He was able to knock down shots.

Both teams ran mostly set plays throughout the first half. Neither team went to a full court man-to-man defense it was mostly three quarters or half-court defense.

At halftime the score was Champlin Park 56, Spring Lake Park 36.

As the second half for underway Champlin Park continued to attack the basket. Champlin Park’s  Johnson stepped up and was able to knock down some good shots throughout the game. His teammates did a good job of getting him the ball.

Spring Lake Park took some quick shots in the as they looked to get back into the game. Even though they had a hard time making their shots throughout the contest they kept on shooting the ball.

Champlin Park kept the defensive pressure on as they were able to frustrate the Spring Lake Park team. The Spring Lake Park players seemed frustrated that they were not able to make shots.

Spring Lake Park had a difficult time shooting the ball throughout the game. They fought hard throughout however. In the end Champlin Park came away with the 95-72 victory over Spring Lake Park.
