SHAKOPEE TOOK ON OWATONNA IN A GIRLS BASKETBALL GAME

Shakopee and Owatonna went up against each other in a girls basketball game. Owatonna started the game in a zone defense.  They looked to push the ball down the floor and score baskets in transition.
 
Shakopee looked to set a quick tempo early in the contest. They were not afraid to shoot deep three-point shots.
 
The score went back and forth early. Neither team went on a run.
 
Owatonna’s Kyndal Cox was not afraid to shoot the ball from anywhere on the floor. She knew where her teammates were but called for the ball if she thought that she could hit the shot.
 
Neither team was afraid to shoot the three-point shot, which proved successful.
 
Shakopee moved the ball well down the floor as they were able to get everyone involved in the offense.
 
The Shakopee defense made it difficult for Owatonna to hit their shots in the first half. The Owatonna players didn’t get discouraged however. They kept on shooting shots that they thought would go in.
 
It was a very physical first half. Both teams dove on the floor after loose balls. There were also collisions on both ends of the floor. No one was seriously hurt however.
 
The score at halftime was Shakopee 31, Owatonna 23.
 
As the second half got underway Owatonna kept on looking to get the ball into the hands of Cox.
 
Cox continued to drive to the basket and look for her shot.
 
The score remained close throughout the second half. Shakopee found some energy midway through the second half. They built a ten-point lead with 13:37 left in regulation and Owatonna called a timeout.
 
Owatonna’s Katllin Ptacek  got hot late in the second half. She got everyone involved in the offense.
 
Shakopee’s Emily Horsemann was able to communicate with her teammates and let them know where they were supposed to be on the floor. She was also able to hit shots. Her teammate Annie Rhinesmith also came up with some big baskets throughout the game as well.
 
Owatonna made a late charge. Shakopee called a timeout with 2:08 left in the second half. The score was Shakopee 54, Owatonna 51.
 
Shakopee made some turnovers late in the contest and Owatonna came up with the ball and hit shots down the stretch.
 
Shakopee came away with the 61-57 victory over Owatonna.
 
The leading scorers for Owatonna were Ptacek with 18 points and Cox with 15 points. The leading scorers for Shakopee were Horsmann with 18 and Rhinesmith with 16.
