MINNEAPOLIS ROOSEVELT TOOK ON ROBBINSDALE COOPER IN A BOYS’ BASKETBALL GAME


The Minneapolis Roosevelt Teddies went up against the Robbinsdale Cooper Hawks in a boys’ basketball non-conference game on Dec. 11.
 
Cooper started the game out in a zone defense. They wanted to force Roosevelt to take long shots.
 
Neither team was able to hit shots that they put up early. The defensive pressure each team was applying made it difficult for the other team to get a shot up early.
 
Cooper was not afraid to take the ball hard to the basket. Cooper’s Taron Pickford brought the ball down the floor for his team. He did a good job of letting his team know what plays that he wanted run.
 
Roosevelt called a timeout with 14:58 left in the first half. The score was Cooper 5, Roosevelt 1.
 
It was a very physical game. Both teams dove on the floor for loose balls. They also each went after rebounds on both ends of the floor.
 
Cooper looked to get baskets in transition. They wanted to beat Roosevelt down the floor as they looked for layups.
 
Both teams sprinted down the floor as the quick pace for each teams created open shots on both ends of the floor.
 
Cooper called a timeout with 9:53 left in the first half. The score was Cooper 9, Roosevelt 7.
 
The score went back and forth throughout the first half. Roosevelt was able to step up and knock down shots.
 
Aaron Wiseman for Roosevelt was able to step up and knock down shots from within the three-point line. His teammates did a good job of feeding him the ball in spots where he could knock them down.
 
Roosevelt called a timeout with 6:57 left in the first half. The score was Cooper 14, Roosevelt 10.
 
Cooper switched between man-to-man and zone defense which confused Roosevelt. They got frustrated in their offense.
 
The score remained close late in the first half. Neither team went on a run.
 
Both teams played at breakneck speed in the first half.
 
At halftime the score was Cooper 33, Roosevelt 21.
 
Cooper’s Brandon Robinson came out of fire. He stepped up and was able to knock down jump shots in the paint. Robinson also was able to make layups.
 
Both teams continued to look for the fast break. Cooper however was able to slow down Roosevelt on the offensive end.
 
Roosevelt didn’t give up they fought hard throughout the whole game.  
 
In a hard-fought battle Cooper came away with the 65-52 victory over Roosevelt.
 
The leading scorers for Cooper were Robinson and Gray each with 14 points each.
 
The leading scorers for Roosevelt were Terrence Hicks with 16 and Aaron Wiseman with 14.
