ST. CROIX LUTHERAN WENT UP AGAINST NEW LONDON-SPICER IN THE STATE FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP IN CLASS 3A

St. Croix Lutheran took on New London-Spicer in the Class 3A State football championship game.
 
New London-Spicer kicked off to St. Croix Lutheran. On the first play from scrimmage Trever Koester ran for 68 yards for a touchdown. The extra-point kick was good.
 
With 11:44 left in the first quarter the score was St. Croix Lutheran 7, New London-Spicer 0.
 
New London-Spicer was not able to get a first down on their first series, so they punted on fourth-and-six.
 
St. Croix Lutheran fumbled the ball and New London-Spicer came up with it. New London-Spicer came up with a touchdown on a 67-yard run by Adam Essler.  
 
The two point conversion pass was no good.
 
With 5:44 left in the first quarter the score was St. Croix Lutheran 7, New London-Spicer 6.
 
St. Croix Lutheran got the ball back after the touchdown. They kept the ball on the ground for a good portion of the first quarter.  St. Croix Lutheran looked to get the ball into the hands of Koester. Koester was able to find holes in the New London-Spicer’s defense.
 
New London-Spicer got the ball back on downs. They got the ball back on their own 39 yard line. New London-Spicer found the end zone on a Ryan Vraa 52 pass completion to Shane Zylstra,  for a touchdown.
 
Vraa’s two point run attempt was good.  
 
With 1:43 left in the first quarter the score was New London-Spicer 14, St Croix Lutheran 7.
 
St. Croix Lutheran got the ball back after the touchdown.
 
After one quarter of play the score was New London-Spicer 14, St. Croix Lutheran 7.
 
On the first play of scrimmage of the second quarter St. Croix Lutheran’s David Ponath passed to Josh Galkowski for a 35-yard touchdown reception. The two-point conversion run by  Koester was no good.
 
With 11:54 left in the second quarter the score was New London-Spicer 14, St. Croix Lutheran 13.
 
On the next drive New London-Spicer’s Essler found a hole and ran it in for a 48-yard touchdown. Essler two-point conversion run failed.
 
With 11:28 left in the second quarter the score was New London-Spicer 20, St. Croix Lutheran 13.
 
St. Croix Lutheran’s Joshua Arndt took the kickoff 63 yards to the New London’s 11 yard line.
 
Koester got the ball to the two yard line. Koester got the ball again for a two-yard touchdown run. Alex Bornschlegl’s extra-point attempt was good.
 
With 10:09 left in the second quarter the score was tied at 20.
 
St. Croix Lutheran got the ball back and they continued to look to pound the ball down the field.
 
Caleb Olson came up with a nice reception to give his team a first down. The New London-Spicer defense stepped up big and was able to stop the St. Croix Lutheran’s offense.
 
At halftime the score was tied at 20.
 
St. Croix Lutheran kicked off to start the third quarter.  New London-Spicer kept the ball on the ground on their first drive. They were not able to get a first down so they elected to punt on fourth-and-eight.
 
New London-Spicer was not able to get a first down so they punted the ball on fourth down.
St. Croix Lutheran tried to move the ball on the ground but the defense wouldn’t let that happen. They punted on fourth-and-10.
 
New London-Spicer got the ball back after the punt. They started on the 32 yard line of St. Croix Lutheran. New London-Spicer got their running game going as  Essler looked to get yards with defenders all over him. New London-Spicer was picked off by Olson.
 
St. Croix Lutheran got the ball on the 35 yard line of New London-Spicer. David Ponath found Hans
 
Klingenschmitt for a 35-yard touchdown reception. Bornschlegl’s extra-point  attempt was no good.
 
With 4:55 left in the third quarter the score was St. Croix Lutheran 26, New London-Spicer 20.
 
New London-Spicer got the ball back after the touchdown. Vraa came up with a 36-yard run for a first down.  Essler came up with some nice plays throughout the game for New London-Spicer. Vraa completed a 37-yard pass to Essler for a touchdown. The two-point conversion run by Essler was good.
 
With 1:27 left in the third quarter the score was New London-Spicer 28, St. Croix Lutheran 26.
 
St. Croix Lutheran got the ball back after the touchdown.
 
After three quarters of play the score was New London-Spicer 28, St. Croix Lutheran 26.
 
On the first play from scrimmage St. Croix Lutheran Ponath completed a 28-yard pass to Olson for a touchdown.  The two point conversion run by Koester was good.
 
With 11:54 left in the fourth quarter the score was St. Croix Lutheran 34, New London-Spicer 28.
 
New London-Spicer turned the ball over on downs.
 
St. Croix Lutheran’s Joe Werz found a hole in the defense for a 69-yard touchdown run.
 
The two point conversion run was good.
 
With 7:40 left in the fourth quarter the score was St. Croix Lutheran 42, New London-Spicer 28.
 
New London found the end zone on pass from Vraa to Jarrett Hatlestad for a 35 yard gain. The two-point conversion run was good.
 
With 5:00 left in regulation the score was St. Croix Lutheran 42, New London-Spicer 36.
 
New London-Spicer turned the ball over after the touchdown. Hans Klingenschmitte found the endzone on a 10-yard run for St. Croix Lutheran. The two-point conversion run failed.
 
With 2:39 left in regulation the score was St. Croix Lutheran 48, New London-Spicer 36.
 
Essler took the kickoff 64 yards for a touchdown. The two point conversion run was good.
 
St. Croix Lutheran came away with the thrilling 48-44 victory over New London-Spicer.
