MINNEOTA/LINCOLN HI TOOK ON CHATFIELD IN THE CLASS AA STATE FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP

Chatfield kicked off to Minneota/Lincoln Hi in the Class 2A State football championship game. Minneota/Lincoln was not able to get a first down on the first series so they punted the ball.
 
Chatfield on fourth-and-three quarterback Nate Skare was sacked for a five-yard loss and a turnover on downs.   
 
Minneota/Lincoln Hi turned it over on downs so Chatfield got the ball back on the 28 yard line. Chatfield used both the running and passing attack throughout the first quarter.  On fourth-and-11 Chatfield attempted a 35-yard field goal and it was no good.
 
Minneota/Lincoln Hi moved the ball down but they were picked off by Jacob Neis of Chatfield.
 
After one quarter of play the score remained scoreless after one quarter of play
 
Chatfield punted the ball on fourth down. Minneota/Lincoln Hi started with the ball on their own 41 yard line. They were not able to get a first down so they had to punt the ball
 
Chatfield got the ball back on the punt. Chatfield’s Skare pass intercepted by Nicholas Esping to give Minneota/Lincoln Hi the ball back.
 
Minneota/Lincoln Hi punted the ball on fourth-and-21.
 
Chatfield looked to get into the endzone. Neis came up with a 26-yard run that set up a one-yard touchdown run by Neis. The extra-point attempt by Skare was good.
 
With 50 seconds left in the second quarter the score was Chatfield 7, Minneota/Lincoln Hi 0. That was the score at halftime.
 
Minneota/Lincoln Hi kicked off to Chatfield to start the third quarter. Chatfield couldn’t get a first down on their first drive of the quarter so they punted it on fourth down.
 
Minneota/Lincoln punted the ball on fourth-and-one.
 
After three quarters of play the score was Chatfield 7, Minneota/Lincoln Hi 0.
 
Chatfield was not able to get a touchdown on fourth-and-one. Minneota/Lincoln Hi turned it over on downs.
 
Chatfield used short yard rushes late in the fourth quarter. Chatfield came up with a first down on a Hurley 47-yard completion. Skare attempted a 20-yard field goal which was good.
 
With 5:13 left in regulation the score was Chatfield 10, Minneota/Lincoln Hi 0.  
 
Minneota/Lincoln Hi was intercepted. Chatfield looked to get into the endzone late in the contest as they were able to get into the red zone.  They did that as they found the endzone on a Skare three-yard rush. The extra-point attempt was good.
 
With 2:08 left in regulation the score was Chatfield 17, Minneota/Lincoln Hi 0.
 
Minneota/Lincoln Hi found the endzone on a Austin Buysee 16-yard pass to Jeff Gladis. The extra-point attempt was good.
 
In a hard fought defensive battle Chatfield came up with the 17-7 victory over Minneota/ Lincoln Hi to win the class AA state football championship.
 
After the game I was able to talk to Chatfield’s Neis, Skare and head coach Jeff Johnson about the game.
