ST. LOUIS PARK WENT UP AGAINST WAYZATA IN A BOYS SECTION SOCCER GAME

On Oct. 14 St. Louis Park went up against Wayzata in a boys’ section 6 class AA final soccer game.

The winner of the game will advance to the Minnesota State High School Leagues state soccer tournament. 

Wayzata looked to get the ball down the field quickly.

St. Louis Park’s John Kenney scored a goal with 37:58 left in the first half.

On the next trip down the field Wayzata’s Ethan Tuch score a goal with 36:28 left in the first half.

With that goal that tied the score at 1.

Wayzata’s Clay Elmore scored a goal with 33:52 left in the first half.

After that goal that made the score Wayzata 2, St. Louis Park 1.

Both teams did a good job of moving the ball down the field and communicating.

Wayzata’s Clayton Smith was all over the field. Smith did a good job of getting the ball to his teammates and also did a good job of communicating with them on where they were supposed to be.  

Both teams did a good job of going after the ball. Neither team got off an uncontested a shot.

Wayzata’s goaltender Troy Louwagie came up with some nice saves throughout the first half. He dove and jumped to save the ball from going into the net.

At halftime the score was Wayzata 2, St. Louis Park 1.

As the second half got underway Wayzata continued to move the ball well down the field. St. Louis Park didn’t let Wayzata take uncontested shots on net.

With 32:48 left in regulation St. Louis Park’s Conor Bellingham scored a goal.

With that goal that tied the score at 2.

Wayzata’s Elmore found the goal again on a header with 28:32 left in regulation.

That made the score Wayzata 3, St. Louis Park 2.

The game was physical throughout.

Elmore scored another goal with 25:50 left in regulation.

That made the score Wayzata 4, St. Louis Park 2.

Wayzata was able to wear St. Louis Park down. They got a little quicker late in the contest. St. Louis Park kept on attacking the net.

St. Louis Park continued to get shots on goal but Louwagie came up with fantastic saves.

Wayzata came away with the 4-2 victory over St. Louis Park.

With that win Wayzata advances to the 2014 Minnesota State High School Leagues state soccer tournament. With the loss that ends St. Louis Park’s season.
