NEW LONDON SPICER TOOK ON GLENCOE SILVER LAKE FOR THE CLASS AAA BOYS FOOTBALL STATE CHAMPIONSHIP

New London Spicer (NLS) took on Glencoe Silver Lake in the Class AAA boy’s football state final at the Metrodome. Both teams came into the game undefeated.

With 7:06 New London Spicer got a touchdown on a Jake Essler one-yard run. The extra point attempt was not good.

GSL got the ball back after the NLS touchdown.

At the end of the first quarter the score was NLS 6 and GSL 0.

GSL got the ball to begin the second quarter. It was a fourth down play. They were not able convert and they turned the ball over to NLS.

With 7:53 left to go in the in the second quarter Aaron Lueders scored a touchdown on a nice reception. The extra point attempt was good. With that touchdown the score was GSL 7 and NLS 6.

Both of the defenses did a very good job defending in the first half. Neither team was able to give up a big play.
At half time the score was Glencoe Silver Lake 7 and New London Spicer 6.

NLS got the ball to begin the third quarter. They took to the air early in the third quarter. They were deep in their own territory. They had to punt the ball away to GSL on that drive. GSL got the ball back on the 34-yard line.

GSL wanted to look to score late in the third quarter. They did that at 3:23 with an Aaron Leuders 3-yard run. The extra point was good.

With that touchdown the score was GSL 14 and NLS 6. That was the score after the third quarter.

With 11:53 left to go in the fourth quarter NLS got a touchdown on a Luke Peterson 29 yard touchdown pass from Jayme Moten. The two-point conversion was no good. With that touchdown the score was GSL 14 and NLS 12.

Aaron Luders of GSL got another touchdown on a 65-yard catch and run to get into the end zone with 11:43 left to go in the fourth quarter. The extra point was good. With that touchdown the score was GSL 21 and NLS 12.
NLS’ Jayme Moten completed a pass to Erik Tengwall for 54 yards and a NLS touchdown. The extra point was good.

With that touchdown the score was GSL 21 and NLS 20.

NLS threatened to score late in the fourth quarter. And they did at 3:06 left to go in the fourth quarter with an Aaron Jennings touchdown reception. The two-point conversion was good.

New London Spicer was able to come away with the 28-21 victory. I was able to talk to New London Spicer head coach Dan Essler and Jayme Moten about the championship game.
