THE UNIVERSITY OF MINNESOTA OPENED THE 2009-2010 MEN’S BASKETBALL SEASON AGAINST TENNESSEE TECH

The University of Minnesota men’s basketball team took on Tennessee Tech in their first regular season game.
The atmosphere to begin the game was electric. The Gophers wanted to try to establish the pace early in the game.

The Gophers started out playing tough man-to-man defense. The Gophers wanted to try to shut down Tennessee Tech’s offense early in the game.

With 15:31 the score was Minnesota 6 and Tennessee Tech 3.

Tennessee Tech came out playing very aggressively on both ends of the court. They were not going to let Minnesota roll over them.

With 11:45 remaining in the first half the score was Minnesota 15 and Tennessee Tech 7.

The Gophers were really getting after it on both ends of the court. They were really making shots inside of the three-point range. They started out having trouble making three point shots.

Both teams turned the ball over a lot in the first half. Both teams looked well but they were a little nervous in the opening half.

Rodney Williams looked good so far. He really went after it on both ends of the court and his athletic ability is like no other. He can jump out of the arena if he wanted to and he dove on the floor going after loose balls. Lawrence Westbrook made a shot at the buzzer for the Gophers to end the first half.

The score at half time was Minnesota 37 and Tennessee Tech 22.

The Gophers came out hot in the second half. They were really trying together on both ends of the court. In the second half they came out on fire as they were able to keep making shots.

With 11:33 left in regulation the score was Minnesota 53 and Tennessee Tech 27.

The Gophers continued to look good in the game. They shut Tennessee Tech down in the second half and they were able to come away with the victory.

I thought Minnesota played well throughout the game. It was a good victory for the Gophers. The Gophers were able to come away with the 87-50 victory over Tennessee Tech. After the game Head Coach Mike Sutton talked about the game. Minnesota players Lawrence Westbrook and Ralph Sampson talked about the game. Also head coach Tubby Smith addressed the media and talked about the game.
