MAHNOMEN TOOK ON BETHLEHEM ACADEMY IN THE CLASS A STATE SEMIFINALS

Mahnomen and Bethlehem Academy went up against each other in the Class A state football semifinals.
 
Bethlehem kicked off to Mahnomen. Mahnomen kept the ball on the ground on their first series.
 
Mahnomen’s Austin Reitan came up with a 12-yard run for a touchdown. Tom Pavek’s extra point attempt was good.
 
With 5:59 left in the first quarter the score was Mahnomen 7, Bethlehem 0.
 
Bethlehem’s Christian Von Ruden, rushed for 3 yards and Gabe Large forced a fumble and Nathan Hanson for Mahnomen came up with it.
 
It was a sloppy first half for both teams. Bethlehem turned it over three times.
 
Mahnomen got the ball back on a turnover. They turned it over on downs to Bethlehem.
 
Von Ruden, ran for 54 yards to pick up a first down.
 
After one quarter of play the score was Mahnomen 7, Bethlehem 0.
 
The Mahnomen defense stepped up big as they were able to turn Bethlehem over deep in their zone.
 
Mahnomen kept the ball on the ground as they were able to get the ball into the hands of their running back Reitan’s hands. Reitan was all over the field as he was able to get past the Bethlehem defenders. Kody Lefebvre also came up with some nice runs for his team. Reitan looked to get into the endzone as he ran for 13 yards for a first down. Mahnomen found the endzone on a Pavek one-yard run. Pavek’s extra point attempt was no good.
 
With 3:35 left in the second quarter the score was Mahnomen 13, Bethlehem 0.
 
Bethlehem looked to move the ball down the field late in the quarter. Kollin Hanson was able to complete a pass to Drew Glenzinski for a 25-yard reception. That put the ball on the 14 yard line.
 
There was a defensive penalty that put the ball on the 7 yard line. Time expired as the quarter ended.
 
At halftime the score was Mahnomen 13, Bethlehem 0.
 
Mahnomen kicked off to start the third quarter. Bethlehem looked to get their stagnant offense going early in the third quarter. Bethlehem had to punt on fourth-and-long.
 
Pavek ran for 47 yards to the 30 yard line. Pavek found Nathan Hanson in the end zone for a 29-yard touchdown reception. The two point conversion was no good.
 
With 8:40 left in the third quarter the score was Mahnomen 18, Bethlehem 0.
 
Bethlehem was not able to get a first down and they had to punt the ball on fourth-and-long.
 
Mahnomen got the ball back and Pavek took over as he was able to get the ball down the field. On fourth-and-six Mahnomen punted the ball.
 
Bethlehem got the ball back. Drew Glenzinski came up with a nice 10-yard run. Bethlehem fumbled the ball and Mahnomen came up with it.
 
After three quarters of play the score was Mahnomen 19, Bethlehem 0.
 
Mahnomen punted the ball on fourth-and-nine.
 
Bethlehem was not able to move the ball down the field. On fourth-and-31 they elected to punt the ball.
 
Both teams tried to move the ball down the field late in the fourth quarter. Neither team scored again.
 
Mahnomen came away with the 19-0 victory over Bethlehem Academy.
 
After the game I was able to talk to Mahnomen head coach John Clark Jr and Pavek about the game.
