MAPLE LAKE AND MINNEOTA/LINCOLN HI IN THE STATE SEMIFINALS OF CLASS AA IN FOOTBALL

Minneota/Lincoln Hi took on Maple Lake the class AA semifinals. 
 
Maple Lake’s Charlie Stejskal attempted a 34-yard field goal which was good. With 6:34 left in the first quarter the score was Maple Lake 3, Minneota/Lincoln Hi 0. 
 
Minneota/Lincoln Hi looked to get into the endzone on their first drive of the game. Nathan Pavek found the endzone on a six-yard run. The extra point attempt was good.
 
With 5:18 left in the first quarter the score was Minneota/Lincoln Hi 7, Maple Lake 3.
 
Maple Lake got a 60-yard touchdown run by Cal Redemske. The extra point attempt was no good.
 
With 4:32 left in the first quarter the score was Maple Lake 9, Minneota/Lincoln Hi 7.
 
Minneota/Lincoln Hi used mostly rushing plays in the first quarter. Maple Lake was not able to catch the receivers. Austin Buysse found Diego Meza-Palmer for an eight-yard touchdown reception. With three seconds left in the first quarter the score was Minneota/Lincoln Hi 14, Maple Lake 9.
 
Maple Lake punted on fourth down. Minneota/Lincoln Hi got the ball back. They were able to get a touchdown on an eight-yard run for Pavek.
 
The extra point attempt was good.
 
With 8:34 left in the second quarter the score was Minneota/Lincoln Hi 21, Maple Lake 9.
 
Maple Lake’s Dusy Sttrub ran the kickoff  85 yards for a touchdown.
 
With 8:19 left in the second quarter the score was Minneota/Lincoln Hi 21 Maple Lake 16.
 
There was an onside kick and recovered by Maple Lake’s Blake Wellsted.  Maple Lake fumbled on the kick off and and Minneota/Lincoln Hi recovered it.
 
Minneota/Lincoln Hi looked to get into the end zone late in the second quarter. They did that as Buysse found Jordan Beck for a 19-yard touchdown reception.
 
With 3:12 left in the second quarter the score was Minneota/Lincoln Hi 28, Maple Lake 16.
 
Maple Lake looked to get into the endzone on the final drive of the second quarter. They were not able to get into the end zone.
 
The score at halftime was Minneota/Lincoln Hi 28, Maple Lake 16.
 
Maple Lake kept the ball on the ground on their first drive of the third quarter. They had to punt on fourth-down-and five to go.
 
Minneota/Lincoln Hi came up with some big plays in the third quarter. They found the endzone on a one-yard Buysse run. The two point conversion was good.
 
With 7:14 left in the third quarter the score was Minneota/Lincoln Hi 36, Maple Lake 16.
 
Maple Lake kept the ball on the ground as they wanted to get into the red zone late in the third quarter.  Maple Lake was not able to get into the endzone because the Minneota/Lincoln Hi stuffed the offense at the goalline, causing a turnover on downs.
 
After three quarters of play the score was Minneota/Lincoln Hi 36, Maple Lake 16.
 
Minneota/Lincoln Hi’s Jeff Gladis came up with a 36-yard carry for a touchdown. The extra point attempt was good.
 
With 10:34 left in the fourth quarter the score was Minneota/Lincoln Hi 43, Maple Lake 16.
Maple Lake was not able to get another touchdown.
 
With 1:36 left in regulation Minneota found the endzone on a Buysse six-yard run. The extra point attempt was good.
 
On the final play of the game with five seconds left to go Landon Caughey found Zach Johnson for a 30-yard touchdown pass. The extra point attempt was good.
 
In a game that saw a lot of action early Minneota/Lincoln Hi came away with the 50-24 victory over Maple Lake.  
 
After the game I talked to Pavek and Gladis about the game. I also talked to head coach Chad Johnson about the game as well.
