AUSTIN TOOK ON HOLY FAMILY IN THE CLASS 3A STATE QUARTERFINALS

Austin and Holy Family went up against each other in the Class 3A state quarterfinals at the Target Center.
 
Austin came out on fire as they started out on a 15-5 run with 13:38 left in the first half at the first media timeout.
 
Holy Family started off slow offensively. They got the ball into the hands of Colton Stenerson and Brent Hentges who both were able to knock down deep three-point shots.
 
There was a media timeout with 10:15 left in the first half. The score was Austin 20, Holy Family 10.
 
Austin did a good job of getting everyone involved in the offense.
 
Holy Family called a timeout with 7:51 left in the first half. The score was Austin 25, Holy Family 10.
 
There was a media timeout with 6:44 left in the first half. The score was Austin 26, Holy Family 14.
 
Austin’s Ajuda Nywesh and Zach Wessels were able to come up with fast break layups.
 
Holy Family’s Duncan Farris was all over the floor. On the offensive end he was able to step up and knock down mid-range jump shots throughout the first half.
 
There was a media timeout with 3:56 left in the first half. The score was Austin 30, Holy Family 16.
 
Holy Family played zone defense as they tried to make Austin take deep three-point shots.
 
There was another media timeout with 2:02 left in the regulation. The score was Austin 33, Holy Family 17.
 
Austin was a step quicker than Holy Family. Austin was able to control the tempo throughout the half.
 
At halftime the score was Austin 38, Holy Family 20.
 
The second half got underway Holy Family came out with a lot of fire. They looked to turn Austin over by trapping them.
 
Holy Family was a lot more aggressive in the second half. They were not afraid to dive on the floor after loose balls.
 
There was a media timeout with 14:30 left in regulation. The score was Austin 48, Holy Family 24.
 
Austin passed the ball around the three-point shot as they looked to take time off the clock in the second half.
 
Holy Family called a timeout with 11:33 left in regulation. The score was Austin 54, Holy Family 24.
 
Austin’s Nywesh and Wessels both were able to hit their mid-range jump shots and layups throughout the game. Their teammates did a good job getting them the ball in spots where they could shoot it.
 
Austin was too much for Holy Family. Austin came away with the 70-42 victory over Holy Family.
 
The leading scorer for Holy Family was Dahl with 8 points.
 
The leading scorers for Austin were Nywesh with 21 points and Wessels with 14 points.
 
With that win Austin will play Minneapolis DeLaSalle in the Class 3A state championship game.
