HENRY SIBLEY TOOK ON RICHFIELD IN A BOYS BASKETBALL GAME

On Feb. 22 Henry Sibley went up against Richfield in a Classic Suburban Conference boys basketball game.
 
Richfield won the tip. They looked to pass the ball around the three-point line to create their offence. Henry Sibley started out in a zone defense.
 
Henry Sibley ran a motion style of offense. Their offense was based on a lot of passing and cutting. Henry Sibley’s Kevin Kolsad was not afraid to shoot deep three-point shots.
 
Richfield looked to push the ball down the floor and score baskets in their offense.
 
Henry Sibley also looked to score baskets in transition.  
 
Henry Sibley’s Javon Daniels also looked to step up and knock down three-point shots. If Daniels didn’t think that he had a good shot he wasn’t afraid to look for teammate Mark Pumper who looked to make layups from the low block.
 
There were many ties and lead changes throughout the first half. Neither team went on a run.
 
Daniels came up with some nice rebounds as he went after the ball. He was able to get the ball into the hands of his teammates as they worked to get their shots.
 
Richfield held the ball as they took a lot of time off the clock while Henry Sibley stood in their zone defense. Richfield’s Godfrey Luke wasn’t afraid to shoot the three from the corner against the zone.  
 
Richfield called a timeout with 6:24 left in the first half. The score was Richfield 10, Henry Sibley 9.
 
Richfield did a good job of getting everyone involved in the offense.  They communicated well on both ends of the floor.
 
Henry Sibley came out of their zone defense late in the first half. That made Richfield have to move the ball on the offensive end.
 
Daniels came up with some nice assists as he knew where his teammates were on the floor.
 
Richfield turned the ball over and Henry Sibley was able to hit layups off the turnovers.
 
At halftime the score was Henry Sibley 19, Richfield 17.
 
As the second half got underway Henry Sibley stayed in their zone defense. They made it look like they were going to a man-to-man but then switched it to a zone.
 
Henry Sibley’s Louie Garabay was all over the floor for his team. He took the ball hard to the basket and he knew where his teammates were on the floor at all time.
 
Richfield called a timeout with 16:17 left in regulation. The score was Henry Sibley 19, Richfield 17.
 
Luke continued drive to the basket as he looked to make layups. If however Luke thought he could a good shot from behind the arch, he would spot up and shoot the three-point shot.
 
Pumper wasn’t afraid to drive to the basket as well. He looked to make layups in the second half. Pumper wasn’t scared of getting fouled.
 
Richfield came out cold to start the second half. They were not able to hit shots that they put up.
 
Henry Sibley took advantage of that as they kept on attacking the basket.
 
Richfield looked to double team the Henry Sibley defenders who ever had the ball. Henry Sibley did a good job of recognizing that and was able to get out of the trap by advancing the ball down the court.
 
Richfield’s Mouhari Mouhamed scored the team’s first basket on a free throw with 12:12 left in regulation
 
Richfield kept on attacking the glass in the second half. They took mid-range jump shots but they were not able to go in.
 
Henry Sibley was able to keep swinging the ball around the three-point line as they kept taking time off the clock in the second half. Kenneth Jinkins came up with some nice mid-range jump shots.
 
Richfield also looked to score on fast break chances. They were able to do that, as they were able to get open looks at the basket.
 
Richfield called a timeout with 7:03 left in regulation. The score was Henry Sibley 35, Richfield 26.
 
Henry Sibley ran their motion offense. They passed and cut as they looked to take time off the clock. Richfield did a good job of defending it.
 
Richfield switched between man-to-man and zone throughout the second half.
 
Richfield’s Luke kept on hitting his mid-range jump shots to keep his team in the game late in regulation.
 
Henry Sibley called a timeout with 2:33 left to go in regulation. The score was Henry Sibley 40, Richfield 33.
 
Richfield started out the second half slow and Henry Sibley was able to counter that. Henry Sibley stepped up and was able to knock down their shots throughout the second half. Richfield didn’t give up any easy shots.
 
Richfield tried to make a comeback late in regulation but that came up short.
 
Henry Sibley came away with the 45-38 victory over Richfield.
 
The leading scorers for Richfield were Luke and Peterson each with 10 points.
 
The leading scorers for Henry Sibley were Pumper with 14 points and Kolstad and Jinkins with 8 points each.
