MINNEOTA TOOK ON GOODHUE IN THE CLASS A STATE GIRLS BASKETBALL SEMIFINALS

On March 21 Minneota and Goodhue squared off in a girls state Class 1A semifinal basketball game.
 
Minneota’s Taylor Reiss was all over the floor on the offensive end. She stepped up and was able to knock down jump shots from the paint.
 
There was a media timeout with 10:24 left in the first half. The score was Minneota 6, Goodhue 5.
 
There was a media timeout with 6:57 left in the first half. The score was Goodhue 10, Minneota 8.
 
Goodhue’s Megan Ryan and Meredith Watson were both able to get by the defenders and make layups. Their teammates did a good job of getting them the ball.
 
There was a media timeout with 3:32 left in the first half. The score was Minneota 14, Goodhue 12.
 
Goodhue continued to take time off the clock as they worked the ball around the three-point line in their offense.
 
At halftime the score was Minneota 21, Goodhue 20.
 
As the second half got underway Goodhue got the ball into the hands of Mikayla Miller. Miller was all over the floor as she was able to come up with jump shots in the paint.
 
Minneota called a timeout with 16:19 left in regulation. The score was Goodhue 25, Minneota 21.
 
Minneota came up with layups after the timeout. They were able to keep the ball in Reiss’s hands as she came up with layups throughout the contest.
 
There was a media timeout 14:43 left in regulation. The score was Minneota 27, Goodhue 25.
 
There were several ties and lead changes throughout the second half.
 
Goodhue stayed in a zone throughout the second half. They didn’t let Minneota take any open shots at the basket. Minneota did move the ball around the three-point line in the zone.
 
Minneota called a timeout with 6:03 left in regulation. The score was tied at 31.
 
Both teams were able to hit deep three-point baskets late in the game.
 
Minneota came away with the 45-43 victory over Goodhue.
 
Goodhue was lead in scoring by Miller with 25 points.
 
Minneota was lead in scoring by Reiss and Stienessen each with 16 points.
 
After the game I was able to talk to Reiss and Minneota head coach Chad Johnston about the game.
