ESKO TOOK ON ANNADALE IN THE STATE CLASS 2A STATE TITLE GAME

Esko and Annandale went up against each other in the second game of the Minnesota State High School League’s championship tournament.
 
Annandale was able to push the ball the floor.
 
The score went back and forth throughout the first half.
 
Annandale’s Matt Miller and Kyler Fobbe came up with mid-range jump shots in the first half. Their teammates did a good job of getting them the ball where they could shoot it.
 
There was a media timeout with 6:31 left in the first half. The score was Esko 15, Annandale 12.
 
Esko went on a 9-2 run late in the first half.
 
Annandale tried to slow down the Esko offense but were not able to do that.
 
There was a media timeout with 3:55 left in the first half. The score was Esko 17, Annandale 14.
 
Esko stepped up and knocked down shots late in the first half. Jaxson Turner played lockdown defense as he was able to slow his guy down on the offensive end.
 
The score at halftime was Esko 22, Annandale 18.
 
As the second half got underway Esko looked to push the ball down the floor and was able to score on layups. Esko’s Turner came up with layups early in the second half.
 
Annandale called a timeout with 14:51 left in regulation. The score was Esko 32, Annandale 23.
 
Esko’s Marc Peterson and Marc Deadrick came up with big mid-range jump shots in the second half.
 
Esko called a timeout with 10:36 left in regulation. The score was Esko 40, Annandale 32.
 
Both teams looked to push the ball down the floor and score baskets in transition.
 
Esko did a good job of swinging the ball around the three-point line as they looked to take time off the clock in the second half.
 
There was a media timeout with 7:53 left in regulation. The score was Esko 44, Annandale 34.
 
Annandale used different defenses to try to confuse Esko on offense.
 
Esko kept the defensive pressure on late in the contest and they were able to come up steals and turn
them into baskets.
 
There was a media timeout with 3:52 left in regulation. The score was Esko 52, Annandale 36.
 
Esko played well throughout the game. Annandale also played well but Esko looked a little quicker.
 
Esko also was able to hit shots down the stretch.
 
Esko came away with the 60-41 victory over Annandale.
 
The leading scorer for Annandale was Miller with 10 points.
 
The leading scorers for Esko were Peterson with 16 points, Deadrick 14 points and Staniger with 13 points.
 
After the game I was able to talk to Esko’s Turner, and, Peterson, about winning the class 2A championship.
