BARNESVILLE TOOK ON NEW ULM CATHEDRAL IN THE CLASS A MSHSL FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP GAME

New Ulm Cathedral took on Barnesville in the class A MSHSL football championship game. New Ulm kicked off to Barnesville to start the game. Barnesville was not able to convert on the first drive of the game. They had to punt it to New Ulm.


New Ulm’s Erik Hauser ran in for a 52 yard touchdown carry. The extra point attempt was good. With 9:11 left to go in the first quarter the score was New Ulm 7 and Barnesville 0.


New Ulm kicked off to Barnesville after the touchdown. Boone Mahar came up with a big reception to give Barnesville a first down. Barnesville was not able to convert and they turned the ball over to New Ulm.


New Ulm looked to keep the ball on the ground. Erick Hauser scored another touchdown with 2:38 left to go on a two-yard run. The extra point attempt was no good.


With 2:38 left to go in the first quarter the score was New Ulm 13 and Barnesville 0.


Barnesville was able to get another first down. At the end of the first quarter the score was New Ulm 13 and Barnesville 0.


Barnesville got the ball to begin the second quarter. They looked to get the ball into the end zone early in the second quarter. John Hagen scored a 28-yard field goal with 8:44 left to go in the quarter.


With 8:44 left in the second quarter the score was New Ulm 13 and Barnesville 3.


Barnesville kicked off to New Ulm after the touchdown. New Ulm was not able to get a first down and they turned the ball back over to Barnesville.


Barnesville was not able to convert on third down and they punted the ball back to New Ulm. Neither team was able to convert on third downs. They each took their turns punting the ball back and forth to each other.


Barnesville looked to move the ball down the field late in the quarter. They looked to score. Robby Strand scored a touchdown on a quarterback keeper for a one-yard run. The extra point attempt was good.


The score at halftime was New Ulm 13 and Barnesville 10.


Barnesville kicked off to New Ulm to start the third quarter. New Ulm came alive on the first drive of the quarter. Eric Hauser came up with some big rushing plays in the third quarter. New Ulm was picked off at the goal line by John Hagen who came up with a big interception with 5:42 left in the third quarter.


Barnesville looked to move the ball down the field late in the third quarter.


New Ulm got the ball back and Nick Simon got the ball and he had an 18-yard touchdown run. The extra point attempt was no good.


With 1:03 left to go in the third quarter the score was New Ulm 19 and Barnesville 10.


Barnesville got the ball to start the fourth quarter. New Ulm intercepted the ball and was able to recover it.


Barnesville got the ball back and they were not able to convert on fourth down and they turned the ball over to New Ulm.


New Ulm was not able to convert on third down and they punted the ball back to Barnesville. Barnesville’s John Hagen scored a field goal with 2:30 left to go.


New Ulm was able to come away with the 19-13 victory over Barnesville.


After the game I was able to talk to New Ulm’s head coach Denny Lux and running back Eric Hauser about the game.
