SIENA TOOK ON THE UNIVERSITY OF MINNESOTA MEN’S BASKETBALL GAME IN A NONCONFERENCE GAME


Siena out of Loudonville, NY took on the University of Minnesota in a men’s basketball game at Williams Arena in Minnesota. Siena had a record of 0-1 coming into the game. Minnesota had a record of 1-0.


The game got off to a fast start as each team was able to make their shots. Blake Hoffarber nailed the first shot of the game for a long three point shot. Austin Hollins got the ball under the basket and was able to make a good shot for the Gophers.


Siena looked to push the ball out of transition whenever they had the chance. Both teams took a lot of shots. They were all good shots.


With 15:47 left to go in the first half the score was Siena 15 and Minnesota 13.


After the timeout the Gophers looked to push the ball up the court. Al King Nolen did a good job of handling the ball.


After the timeout Siena went on a run. Minnesota was not able to make their shots. They went cold.


With 11:59 left to go in the first half the score was Siena 25 and Minnesota 15.


The Gophers went to a man-to-man defense. They wanted to slow down Siena. The Gophers were not able to do that.


Siena was aggressive on the defensive end. They were able to rattle the Gophers. The Gophers didn’t give up on either end of the court.


The Gophers continued to push the ball up the court. Austin Hollins did a good job of getting to the basket. His players were able to get him the ball and he was able to score the basket when he was close to the basket.


The Gophers put on a nice run late in the half. With 2:27 left to go in the first half the score was Siena 32 and Minnesota 28.


Siena was up 11 points in the first half at one point.


The Gophers went on a run late in the half. They were really able to rattle Siena on both ends of the court. They got a 33-32 lead with just over a minute go to in the half.


At halftime the score was Siena 34 and Minnesota 33.


As the second half got underway the Gophers started the half in a tough man-to-man defense. Siena did a good job of getting the long rebounds and controlling the boards.


Siena did a good job of crashing the boards. They were very aggressive on both ends of the court.


Austin Hollins came up with some nice shots at the beginning of the second half. He was a spark in the Gophers offense. Colton Iverson make a shot with 15:20 left to go in the second half that gave the Gophers a one point lead at 43-42.


The Gophers Austin Hollins had the green light to shoot the three point shot.


With 11:14 left to go in regulation the score was Minnesota 49 and Siena 48.


Al King Nolen was able to find his teammate Rodney Maurice Williams cutting to the basket and Al was able to feed him the ball for the easy two points. They connected on a few good passing plays during the second half.


Minnesota went on a run midway through the second half.


With 7:24 left to go in regulation the score was Minnesota 55 and Siena 49.


Rodney Williams came up with a huge slam dunk late in the game. That gave Minnesota some positive energy.


Minnesota was able to rally back. Siena went on a run late in the contest.


Minnesota was able to come away with the 76-69 victory over Siena


I thought that Clarence Jackson for Siena played hard and well.


The leading scorers for Siena were Clarence Jackson with 29 points and Rakeem Brookins with 12 points. The leading scorers for Minnesota were Blake Hoffarber with 16 points, Ralph Sampson with 13, Austin Hollins 12 and Trevor Mvakwe with 10 points.
