HOLY FAMILY TOOK ON MINNEAPOLIS DE LA SALLE IN THE CLASS AAA STATE SEMIFINAL ACTION

Holy Family took on Minneapolis De La Salle in the semifinals of the class AAA state football tournament.

Holy Family kicked off to De La Salle. Johnny Metters received the kick off. De La Salle looked to get the ball into the hands of Reggie Gandy. They were able to keep the ball on the ground. Reggie Gandy found the end zone on a 28 yard touchdown run. The extra point attempt was good.

With 9:06 left to go in the first quarter the score was De La Salle 7 and Holy Family 0.

De La Salle kicked off to Holy Family after the touchdown. Holy Family’s Peter Vakulskas scored on a 19- yard touchdown run. The extra point attempt was good.


With 6:30 left to go in the first quarter the score was tied at 7.


De La Salle put the ball in the air. They were not able to convert on downs and they turned the ball to Holy Family.

Holy Family was not able to get the ball on first down and they turned the ball over to De La Salle. Reggie Gandy ran 24 yards for a De La Salle touchdown with 43 seconds left to go in the first quarter. The extra point attempt was good. With 43 seconds left to go the score was De La Salle 14 and Holy Family 7.


The score after the first quarter was De La Salle 14 and Holy Family 7.

As the second quarter got underway Holy Family looked to score. They drove down the field. Peter Westerhaus found the end zone on a 3 yard run with 8:14 left to go in the second quarter. Michael Kemmerer made the extra point attempt.

With 8:14 left to go in the second quarter the score was tied at 14.

De La Salle got the ball back and they wanted to keep pounding the ball down the middle of the field. They also kept the ball in Reggie Gandys hands. De La Salle threatened to score with 4 minutes in the quarter . De La Salle fumbled the ball on the 5 yard line. Holy Family recovered the ball.

Peter Valkuskas scored a touchdown on a 7 yard run. The extra point attempt was good.

With 9:36 left to go in the third quarter the score was Holy Family 21 and De La Salle 17.

De La Salle got the ball back after the touchdown. De La Salle was not able to get the first down. They punted the ball back to Holy Family.

Holy Family was not able to convert and they had to punt the ball back to De La Salle.

Reggie Gandy fumbled the ball and Holy Family recovered the ball.

Jeff Soule scored a 16 yard touch down rushing play with 2:37 left to go in the third quarter. The extra point attempt was good.

With that touchdown at 2:37 left to go in the third quarter the score was Holy Family 28 and De La Salle 17.

De La Salle got the ball back after the touchdown.

At the end of the third quarter the score was Holy Family 28 and De La Salle 17.

On the first drive of the quarter Tyler Harper found the end zone with 11:21 left to go in the third quarter. The extra point attempt was good.


With 11:21 left to go in the score was Holy Family 28 and De La Salle 23.

Holy Family got the ball back and they looked to attack the goal line late in the fourth quarter. Peter Westerhaus scored a receiving touchdown with 6:11 left to go in fourth quarter. The extra point attempt was good.

With that touchdown the score was Holy Family 35 and De La Salle 23.

With 5:20 left to go in the fourth quarter Micheal Wurm got hit in the back of the head. He laid on the ground and was attended to by medical personal. He was taken off the field on a stretcher to a local hospital.

De La Salle got the ball back late in the fourth quarter. They were able to score another touchdown with time expiring. Reggie Gandy scored a touchdown on a 1 yard run.

Holy Family came away with the 35-29 victory over De La Salle. Reggie Gandy finished the game with 274 net yards rushing and 3 touchdowns and 55 receiving yards.

After the game I was able to talk to Holy Family head coach Dave Hopkins and Peter Westerhaus about the game.
