ROSEMOUNT TOOK ON WAYZATA IN THE CLASS AAAAA STATE FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP GAME

The Rosemount Irish took on the Wayzata Trojans in the class AAAAA football championship game. Wayzata got the ball to start the game. Wayzata’s Sasha Doran was the starting quarterback. On the first play of the game Wayzata’s Mitchell Underwood scored a touchdown on a 45-yard run. The extra point attempt was good.


With 11:09 left to go in the first quarter the score was Wayzata 7 and Rosemount 0.


Rosemount got the ball after the Wayzata touchdown. They wanted to get the ball into Nicholas Liska’s hands. He is a very talented running back. Rosemount was not able to convert on third down and they punted the ball to Wayzata.


Wayzata started the next drive on the 21 yard line. Wayzata looked for the running game going midway through the first quarter. Wayzata was not able to come up with a first down. They had to punt the ball to Rosemount.


Rosemount got the ball on the 33 yard line. They were not able to get a first down. They had to punt the ball to Wayzata. Wayzata couldn’t get a first down and they had to punt the ball back to Rosemount.


At the end of the first quarter the score was Wayzata 7 and Rosemount 0.


Wayzata got the ball to start the second quarter. They were not able to convert on downs. Wayzata had to punt the ball to Rosemount. Rosemont got the ball back and they looked to score midway through the quarter.


Kevin Larson scored a touchdown on a three yard touchdown run for Rosemount. The extra point attempt was good.


After the touchdown the score was tied at 7.


Wayzata had to punt the ball back to Rosemount. Rosemount was not able to get a first down.


They had to punt the ball back to Wayzata because they couldn’t get a first down.


With 24 seconds left in the second quarter Ryan Albuquerque scored on a 24 yard field goal for Wayzata.


At halftime the score was Wayzata 10 and Rosemount 7.


Wayzata kicked off to Rosemount to start the third quarter. Rosemount punted the ball to Wayzata. They got the ball on their one-yard line. Wayzata had to punt the ball to Rosemount as they were not able to convert.


Rosemount threatened to score late in the third quarter. On fourth down and eight to go Rosemount went for it and they did not get the first down. Wayzata got the ball back and Mitchel Underhill made a 66-yard touchdown run. The extra point attempt was good.


With 4:54 left to go the third quarter the score was Wayzata 17 and Rosemount 7.


Rosemount was not able to get a first down and they had to punt the ball to Wayzata. On the next play Mitchell Underhill scored a touchdown on a 58 yard run. The extra point was good.


With that touchdown the score was Wayzata 24 and Rosemount 7.


Rosemount was not able to get a first down and the once again had to punt to Wayzata. Mitchell Underhill scored another touchdown with 1:55 left to go in the third quarter. The extra point attempt was good.


After three quarters of play the score was Wayzata 31 and Rosemount 7.


Rosemount fumbled the ball and Wayzata got the ball back. Wayzata couldn’t get a first down and they punted the ball back to Rosemount.


Both teams traded possessions throughout the fourth quarter.


Wayzata was picked off late in the fourth quarter. Rosemount threatened to score late in the game. Nicholas Liska had a 4 yard run. The extra point attempt was good. With 3:31 left to go in regulation the score was Wayzata 31 and Rosemount 14.


Wayzata was able to come away with the 31-14 victory over Rosemount. With that win Wayzata won the 2010 Minnesota State High School League Class AAAAA state football championship.


For Rosemount Nicolas Liska carried the ball 21 times for a total of 68 yards.


For Wayzata Mitchell Underhill carried the ball12 times for a total of 247 yards and 4 touchdowns. Aaron Roth finished the game with 7 carries for a total of 21 yards.


Sasha John Doran for Wayzata was 7 of 14 in passing and a total of 50 yards. His longest pass was for 10 yards.

After the game I was able to talk to Wayzata head coach Brad Anderson about the game. I was also able to talk to Wayzata’s Mitchell Underhill and Sasha Doran about the championship game.
