#10 CHAMPLIN PARK TOOK ON #2 OSSEO IN A BOYS' BASKETBALL CONTEST

The Champlin Park Rebels took on the Osseo Orioles in a boys' basketball game at Osseo. Coming into the game Champlin Park had a record of 18-3 overall and 14-2 in the conference. They were ranked #10 in the state in Class AAAA. Osseo had a record of 21-2 overall and were 16-1 in the conference.
 
Champlin Park started the game out in a man-to-man defense. They wanted to try to get Osseo out of
rhythm. That didn't work however. Osseo was able drive hard to the basket.
 
Both teams looked to push the ball down the court. They both had trouble scoring the ball. It took each
team a while go get into their offensive grove.
 
Champlin Park's T.J. Okafor took the ball hard to the basket. He was able to make a short little jump
shot.
 
Osseo's Joey Curtis Sonnenfeld took his defender off the dribble. He was able to make his shot from
just inside the top of the key. Sonnenfeld found Terez Wayne VanPelt driving to the basket and VanPelt
was also able to make some shots.
 
Both teams took their time on the offensive end. Osseo did a good job of swinging the ball around the
three-point line. That made Champlin Park have to come out and guard Osseo out behind the threepoint
line.
 
Champlin Park stayed in a zone defense for most of the first half. Osseo did a good job of attacking the
gaps in the defense.
 
Osseo called a timeout with 6:17 with the score Champlin Park 20 and Osseo 14.
 
After the timeout Osseo picked up their men at half court. The pace of the game was quick throughout
the half. Osseo liked the quick pace. Osseo had an easy time making their shots.
 
Champlin Park called a timeout with 2:53 left with the score Champlin Park 24 and Osseo 22.
 
Both teams continued to chew time off the clock.
 
At halftime the score was Champlin Park 30 and Osseo 24.
 
Champlin Park came out of the halftime break in a zone defense. They continued to pressure Osseo on
the offensive end.
 
On the offensive end Champlin Park did a hood job of getting the ball out of the net and getting the ball
to the other end of the court.
 
With 14:06 left to go in regulation Osseo called a timeout the score was Champlin Park 41 and Osseo
28.
 
Both teams dove on the floor after loose balls. Both teams were very aggressive.
 
Champlin Park did a good job of trapping Van Pelt. Van Pelt turned the ball over because of the defense that Champlin Park used.
 
Osseo called a timeout with 11:38 left. The score was Champlin Park 43 and Osseo 34.
 
Osseo went on a run after the timeout. They didn't back down to Champlin Park’s suffocating zone
defense.
 
Champlin Park called a timeout with 9:45 left. The score was Champlin Park 43 and Osseo 38.
 
Both teams dove on the floor after loose balls. There were many jump balls throughout the game.
 
Champlin Park's zone defense caused Osseo problems all game long. Okafor was all over the court. 

He continued to take the ball hard to the basket late in the contest.
 
The game was close throughout. The score changed many times during the game.
 
Osseo called a timeout with 4:07 remaining. The score was Champlin Park 48 and Osseo 45.
 
Okafor nailed a shot just inside the top of the key.
 
Champlin Park called a timeout with 3:28 left when the score was Champlin Park 50 and Osseo 47.
 
VanPelt stepped up big as he drained a deep three-point shot to bring Osseo within two points of
Champlin Park.
 
Okafor fouled out with 9 points with 1:33 left in regulation.
 
Champlin Park called a timeout with 1:08 left to go the score was Champlin Park 54 and Osseo 51.
 
The game came down to the final minute. VanPelt scored a basket with 30.9 seconds left to go to bring
Osseo within a point.
 
Osseo called a timeout with 30.9 seconds to go with the score Champlin Park 54 and Osseo 53.
 
Neither team was able to score a basket. With 15.5 seconds left in regulation Champlin Park called a
timeout with the score still Champlin Park 54 and Osseo 53.
 
Champlin Park had the ball under the Osseo basket and they had a five second call on them and they
turned the basketball over to Osseo with 15.5 left to go.
 
VanPelt scored a jump shot at the buzzer to give Osseo the 55-54 victory over Champlin Park.
Both teams played extremely well throughout the game.
 
The leading scorers for Champlin Park were Anthony Hill with 15 points and T. J. Okafor with 9
points. The leading scorers for Osseo were Terez Wayne VanPelt with 18 points and Joey Curtis
Sonnenfeld had 15 points.
