THE UNIVERSITY OF MINNESOTA DULUTH TOOK ON CONCORDIA ST. PAUL IN A WOMEN’S BASKETBALL GAME

It's tournament time. In a Northern Sun Conference women’s conference tournament basketball game
the University of Minnesota Duluth Bulldogs took on the Golden Bears of Concordia St. Paul. Coming
into the game UMD had a record of 15-11 and Concordia St. Paul had a record of 17-9.

UMD started the game out in a man-to-man defense. Concordia looked to get the ball inside to Maurika
Hickman's hands. Hickman was able to find the basket for easy shots. Jodi Batzel also found the basket
and her teammates did a good job of getting her the ball while she was making a cut to the basket.

Concordia did a good job of switching between man-to-man and zone defense. They wanted to get
UMD out of sync.

UMD did a good job of using the shot clock. They looked to take as much time off of the shot clock as
they could and looked to get their shot off with 10 seconds left.

Concordia St. Paul was able to score baskets in transition.

UMD was able to pull down their offensive rebounds. They were able to score on a ton of second
chance baskets.

With 9:45 there was a media timeout. The score was Concordia St. Paul 16 and UMD 14.

Zoraa Quioe for Concordia St. Paul was able to go the length of the court and make layups on several
different occasions.

UMD took a timeout with 8:09 left in the first half. The score was Concordia St. Paul 20 and UMD 16.

Concorida's defensive pressure was able to bother UMD a little bit. The UMD players were getting
frustrated that they were not getting some of the calls that they thought they should.

UMD called a timeout with 5:31 left with the score Concorida St. Paul 25 and UMD 16.

Concordia St. Paul was able to slow down UMD as they went cold late in the half. Concordia St. Paul
was able to capitalize on that.

UMD didn't back down throughout the half. They kept battling. UMD looked to get the ball into the
hands of Kelsy Hewitt. She was all over the court and was able to nail her shots that she took.

At halftime the score was Concordia St. Paul 26 and UMD 22.

Concordia came out of the halftime break running. They looked to keep attacking the basket.

UMD kept the ball game close as they were able to step up and knock down shots early in the second
half. They didn't back down.

Both teams wanted a slow pace as they each tried to work the clock to their advantage.

The score was tied at 30 with 17:00 left in regulation.

Both teams traded baskets midway through the second half. Neither team was able to go on a run.

UMD called a timeout with 15:09 left with the score Concordia St Paul 34 and UMD 33.

Newman continued to play well on both ends of the court. She was all over the court as she was asking
for the ball and took it strong to the basket.

Concordia St. Paul called a timeout with 14:12 left in regulation with the score Concordia St. Paul 36
and UMD 35.

Mandy Poke for Concordia nailed a deep three-point basket that kept them in the game.

With 9:58 there was a media timeout. The score was Concordia St. Paul 43 and UMD 42.

Both teams continued to battle as the score went back and forth.

Concordia St. Paul was able to get loose balls and convert them into baskets.

The game came down to the wire.

UMD took a timeout with 2:05 left in regulation the score was Concorida St. Paul 56 and UMD 54.

UMD stayed in the zone defense after the timeout. Concorida St. Paul was able to beat the zone.

Hewitt was all over the court for UMD. She really had a good game.

In a hard fought game throughout Concordia St. Paul was able to come away with the 65-58 victory
over UMD.

UMD was led in scoring by Kelsey Hewitt with 17 points and Katrina Hewman with 12 points and
Lindsay Miller with 11 points. UMD shot 21-60 from the field including 3-16 from behind the three point line. They shot 11-13 from the free throw line.

Concordia St. Paul was led in scoring by Maurika Hickman with 22 points. They shot 26-55 from the
field including 3-20 from behind the three-point line. They shot 10-14 from the free throw line.
