BLOOMINGTON KENNEDY TOOK ON MINNEAPOLIS WASHBURN IN A SECTION SEMIFINAL FOOTBALL GAME

Bloomington Kennedy and Washburn squared off in a section semifinal football game at Washburn High School. Kennedy kicked off to start the game. Washburn got the ball on their own 25 yard line. There was a penalty on the kick off assessed to Washburn. That backed them up five yards from the 25 to the 20 Washburn looked to get the ball into the ball of Jeff Jones. On fourth-and-nine, Washburn elected to punt the ball.
 
Kennedy got the ball on their own 45 yard line. They were able to come up with five yard plays. Tyler Blanchard came up with a five yard rush to pick up a new set of downs. Kennedy kept the ball on the ground for most of the first drive. Quarterback Travon Hearns was able to find his receivers as they were able to come up with first downs.
 
Lucian Coutier for Kennedy came up with some big rushing plays for his team as he was able to come up with first downs as his team found the red zone late in the first quarter. The Washburn defense came up big on fourth-and-one. Washburn took over on downs on their own one yard line.
 
Washburn’s Jones came up with a 99-yard touchdown run. The extra point attempt was no good.
 
With 1:09 left in the first quarter, the score was Washburn 6, Kennedy 0.
 
Kennedy kept the ball on the ground for the most part.
 
After one quarter of play the score was Washburn 6, Kennedy 0.
 
Kennedy kept pounding the ball on the ground. Kennedy’s Coutier had a 48-yard touchdown run.
 
The extra point attempt was good. With 11:05 left in the second quarter the score was Kennedy 7, Washburn 6.
 
Jones ran into the end zone for a touchdown on the kick off. The two point conversion was good.
 
With 10:50 left in the second quarter the score was Washburn 14, Kennedy 7.
 
Kennedy was not able to move the ball down the field they had to punt the ball on fourth-and-24.
 
Washburn got the ball back and they got the ball back into Jones hands as he picked up a first down on a 17-yard run. On the next series, Washburn was not able to pick up a first down as they turned it over on fourth-and-two.
 
Kennedy looked to move the ball down the field on the ground rather than by air. Nate Eckerson came up with a 17-yard rush. Eckerson came up with a 17-yard touchdown reception. The extra point attempt was good.
 
With 1:59 left in the second quarter the score was tied at 14.
 
Washburn got the ball back on their own 42 yard line. Semaj Okongwu came up with a nice five-yard reception for Washburn. Morley Matthewson the quarterback for Washburn was very mobile on his feet.
 
At halftime the score was tied at 14.
 
Washburn kicked off to start the third quarter. Kennedy got the ball on the 39 yard line. They looked to keep the ball on the ground on their first drive of the third quarter. QB Travon Hearn scored on a 23-yard run to put Kennedy up 21-14 with 9:16 left in the third. The extra point attempt was good.
 
Kennedy 21, Washburn 14.
 
On the first play of the next drive Jones found the end zone again on a 40-yard reception.
 
The extra point attempt was good.
 
With 7:19 left in the third quarter the score was tied at 21.
 
Kennedy kept the ball on the ground.  Hearn found the end zone on a five-yard rush. The extra point attempt was good.
 
With 4:08 left in the third quarter the score was Kennedy 28, Washburn 21.
 
Washburn got the ball back near midfield. They gave it to Jones as he tried to do his things and come up with some big plays. On fourth-and-nine, Washburn punted the ball.
 
Kennedy took over on their own 34 yard line. They tried to move the ball on the ground but the Washburn defense was able to stop them as they came up with some big plays. On fourth-and-30, Kennedy elected to punt the ball.
 
Washburn took over on their own 38 yard line. Jones was once again was able to get first downs on the ground.
 
After three quarters of play the score was Kennedy 28, Washburn 21.
 
Washburn looked to score at the start of the fourth quarter. Washburn got within the red zone early in the fourth quarter. Jones got the ball again as he looked to get into the end zone. Jones found the end zone on a three-yard run. The extra point attempt was good.
 
With 9:41 left to go in the fourth quarter the score was tied at 28.
 
Kennedy moved the ball down the field as they kept it on the ground. Kennedy fumbled the ball and Washburn recovered the ball on their own 46 yard line. Jones came up with another first down.
 
Washburn looked to get into the end zone late in the fourth quarter. Washburn found the end zone on a Jones 10-yard rush. The extra point attempt was good.
 
With 4:43 left in the fourth quarter the score was Washburn 35, Kennedy 28.
 
Kennedy looked to score again late in the contest. Coutier caught a 42-yard pass on the first play of the drive. That got Kennedy into the red zone on the 11 yard line. Coutier scored on an eleven-yard run. The extra point attempt was good.
 
With 3:33 left in regulation the game was tied at 35.
 
Jones fumbled the ball and Kennedy came away with the ball.
 
Kennedy got the ball back on the 45 yard line.
 
Kennedy was not able to get a first down so they had to punt the ball on fourth down.
 
Washburn continued to get the ball into the hands of Jones. Washburn punted the ball on fourth-and-15.
 
At the end of regulation the score was tied at 35.
 
Each team got the ball from the 10 yard line and had four chances to get the ball into the end zone.
 
Washburn got the ball first. Jones got the ball first and was not able to pick up any yards. On second down Jones again was not able to get anywhere. Gleason found the end zone on a 20-yard run. The extra point attempt was good.
 
That made the score Washburn 42, Kennedy 35.
 
Kennedy kept the ball on the ground during the overtime period. The Washburn defense stepped up big. Kennedy found the end zone on a Hearns 7-yard run. The extra point attempt was good.
 
That tied the score at 42.
 
Both teams met at midfield and this time Kennedy got the ball first as they started the process over again on the 10 yard line. Kennedy was hit with a penalty. That made it third-and-22. Washburn was able to stop the Kennedy offense. Jones came up with an interception.
 
Washburn’s Jones threw halfback pass to Alex Reyes for a touchdown. With that touchdown Washburn won the game 48-42 over Bloomington Kennedy.
