MINNEAPOLIS SOUTHWEST TOOK ON HIGHLAND PARK IN A BOYS’ FOOTBALL GAME

On Oct. 4, Minneapolis Southwest and St. Paul Highland Park high school went up against each other in a football game. Southwest had a record of 2-3 going into the game while Highland Park had a record of 4-1. It was a chilly 55 degrees with a threat of rain when the game started.  
 
Highland Park kicked off to Southwest to start the game. Southwest got the ball on their own 31 yard line. There was no return on the kick off because the defense stepped up big.  
 
Southwest looked to keep the ball on the ground on the first drive. They were not able to get a first down on their first drive. Southwest had to punt the ball on fourth-and-11. The punt was blocked and Highland Park took over.
 
Highland Park took over and Anthony Edmonds for Southwest intercepted it.
 
Southwest's Lanick Knight came up with a nice reception and was able to keep the Southwest offense moving. Southwest was not able to get a first down so they had to punt the ball on fourth and long.
 
Highland Park took over on the punt. They kept the ball on the ground. Highland Park lost 22 yards on a high snap. They were at second down and 32 yards to go. Highland Park was intercepted by Talon Benavides and he took it into the end zone for a touchdown. The extra point attempt was good.
 
With 7:15 left in the first quarter the score was Southwest 7, Highland Park 0.
 
Southwest kicked off after the touchdown. Isaiah Brower came up with a huge run. There was a fumble on the play and Southwest came up with the ball.
 
Southwest took over on their own 20 yard line. They looked to get the ball in the air again. Highland Park got an interception so they got the ball back.
 
Highland Park got the ball into the hands of DJ Simms. Simms came up with another first down.
 
Highland Park got into the end zone on a Nick Lannier short 3 yard run. 
 
The extra point attempt was good. With 4:22 left in the first quarter the score was tied at 7.
 
After one quarter of play the score was tied at 7.
 
Highland Park marched down the field and looked to score early in the second quarter.
 
Issaiah Brower caught a six-yard touchdown reception. The extra point attempt was good.
 
With 11:07 left in the second quarter the score was Highland Park 14, Southwest 7.
 
Highland Park kicked off after the touchdown. Highland Park recovered the ball on the kick off. It touched a Southwest player and Highland Park took over.
 
Highland Park took over deep in the Southwest zone. Highland Park got the ball on the 7 yard line.
 
Deejay Sims came up with a seven-yard touchdown catch.  The extra point attempt was no good.
 
With 10:20 left in the second quarter. The score was Highland Park 20, Southwest 7.
 
Highland Park kicked off after the touchdown. Southwest took over on their own 32 yard line.  Southwest was not able to get their offense going midway through the second quarter.  Southwest punted the ball on fourth-and-10.
 
Highland Park took over on Southwest‘s 21 yard line. Highland Park was not able to move the ball down the field and they attempted a 31 yard field goal but were unsuccessful.
 
Southwest took over on their own 27 yard line. They kept the ball on the ground as they looked to get into the end zone. Southwest was not able to get their offense going midway through the second quarter. They had to punt on fourth down and a mile.
 
Highland Park’s Simms came up with some big yards late in the third quarter. Ben Dombrow caught a 22-yard touchdown reception. The extra point attempt was no good.
 
With 5:03 left in the second quarter the score was Highland Park 26, Southwest 7.
 
Highland Park kicked off after the touchdown.  Southwest got the ball on their own 45 yard line. 
 
 Knight came up with a nice one-handed catch to give his team good field possession. Talon Benavides came up with a big reception to give his team a first down. Quarterback Al-Jureau Ray knew where his teammates were on the field as was able to get them the ball in spots where they came up with nice plays. On fourth down and a mile Southwest went for it and Knight came up with a 19-yard touchdown pass. The extra point attempt was good.
 
With 1:06 left in the first half the score was Highland Park 26, Southwest 14.
 
Southwest kicked off after the touchdown and Isaiah Brower caught it and ran it back 88 yards for a touchdown. The two point conversion was good.
 
With 53 seconds left in the second quarter the score was Highland Park 34, Southwest 14.
 
Southwest fumbled the kick off after the touchdown and Highland Park got the ball back.
 
Highland Park scored again, this time Ben Dombrow came up with an 11 yard reception. The extra point attempt was good.
 
The score at halftime was Highland Park 41, Southwest 14.
 
Southwest kicked off to start the third quarter. Lannier came up with a 28 yard reception. Simms got the ball and was off to the races. There was flag on the play. 
 
Highland Park looked to score again midway through the third quarter. They did just that as Simms found the endzone on a seven-yard run. The extra point attempt was good.  
 
With 7:24 left in the third quarter the score was Highland Park 48, Southwest 14.
 
Highland Park kicked off after the touchdown. Southwest got the ball back near their own 40 yard line. Ray was able to get out of the pocket and run with the ball and pick up a first down. On their next set of downs they went for it on fourth-and-21 to go but they were not able to get a first down.
 
Highland Park’s Brower came up with a big run to give his team another first down. Highland Park attempted a 25 yard field goal.
 
With 50 seconds left in the third quarter the score was Highland Park 51, Southwest 14.  
 
Highland Park kicked off after the field goal. Southwest was not able to score late in the quarter.  
 
After three quarters of play the score was Highland Park 51, Southwest 14.
 
Southwest  maintained possession at the quarter break. They were not able to get a first down so they turned it over to Highland Park.
 
Highland Park took over on downs. Both teams took time off of the clock in the fourth quarter.
 
Neither team got into the end zone again.
 
Highland Park came away with the 51-14 victory over Southwest.
