HIAWATHA HIGH SCHOOL WENT UP AGAINST MINNESOTA TRANSITION HIGH SCHOOL IN A BOYS’ BASKETBALL GAME

Hiawatha and Minnesota Transition high schools went up against each other in a boys’ basketball game on Dec. 21. The game was played at Minnehaha Academy. Both teams looked to push the ball down the floor early in the game. It took a while for each team to get into a shooting rhythm. 

Hiawatha wasn’t afraid to take deep 3-point shots. They passed the ball around the 3-point line and got everyone involved in the offense. 

MTS called a timeout with 15:57 left in the first half. The score was Hiawatha 11, MTS 2. 

Hiawatha’s Jahiem Houts came up with mid-range jump shots and layups. His teammates had a hard time slowing him down on the offensive end. 

MTS had a difficult time finding the basket early. Even though they had a difficult time scoring they continued to look for their shots. 

Hiawatha passed the ball around the 3-point line as they took time off the clock and got into their offense. Everyone on the Hiawatha team crashed to the basket and went after the ball on both ends of the floor. 

Neither team was afraid to shoot the ball in the first half. They both took their time on the offensive end of the floor. 

MTS attacked the basket and was able to get everyone involved in the offense. MTS was able to get their offense going with under 9:00 left to go in the first half. 

Neither team had an open look at the basket. 

After a slow start by MTS, they were able to get their shots to drop.  MTS Lashone Patterson came up with mid-range jump shots and layups in the first half. The defense had a tough time slowing him down. 

MTS Malachi Whitson came up with mid-range jump shots and layups in the first half. He was able to come off screens and make shots that he put up. 

Hiawatha called 5:08 left in the first half. The score was Hiawatha 19, MTS 14. 

MTS continued to attack the basket late in the first half. MTS Linday Brown and Malachi Whitson both came up with mid-range jump shots and layups late in the first half. 

At halftime, the score was Hiawatha 30, MTS 26. 

As the second half got underway both teams continued to move the ball down the floor and looked for their shots. 

MTS Whitson continued to come up with mid-range jump shots and layups in the second half. Teammate Lindsay Brown and Anthony Key all came up with shots in the second half. 

The score continued to go back and forth early in the second half. 

Hiawatha’s Jessey Lewis Jr. and Jaheim Houts both came up with mid-range jump shots and layups. They knew where their teammates were on the floor and were able to make shots. If they didn’t think that they had a good look at the basket they would pass it to one of their teammates. 

MTS got their shots to drop in the second half. They kept attacking the Hiawatha’s defense and was able to get to the basket. 

Lewis kept on coming up with mid-range jump shots and layups in the second half. 

There were multiple ties and lead changes in the second half. Neither team went on a huge run.

MTS called a timeout with 6:15 left in regulation. The score was Hiawatha 52, MTS 48. 

The score kept on going back and forth late in the game. Neither team went on a run late in the game. 

Hiawatha’s Mohamed Daud came up with mid-range jump shots and layups late in the game. His teammates did a good job of getting him the ball in spots where he could shoot the ball. 

Hiawatha called a timeout with 2:29 left in regulation. The score was Hiawatha 58, MTS 54. 

Daud made deep 3-point shots late in the game. He wasn’t afraid to shoot the deep 3-point shot. 

Both teams played hard throughout the whole game. Neither team gave up an easy shot. 

Hiawatha came away with the 64-55 victory over MTS.
