MARANATHA TOOK ON BROOKLYN CENTER IN A NON CONFRENCE MATCH UP THAT CAME DOWN TO THE WIRE

The calendar has turned to March and the tournaments are just about to get underway. Brooklyn Center took on Maranatha in a non-conference game.

Brooklyn Center started playing in a zone defense to open the game up. Both teams are looking to push the ball up the court. Maranatha has come out on fire. They got out to an 8-2 lead with 14:30 left in the first half.
Brooklyn Center has gotten back into this game. They have made some shots and they have tied the game up here at 12. Both teams went at it in the first half. Neither team is giving up here in the first half. They are continuing to go after each other in the first half.

Brooklyn Center decided to put some pursuer on Maranatha and they were trying to tip the ball away from behind. SaVaughn Jordan for Maranatha has come up with some nice plays in the first half. He has really gotten after it in the first half. Andre DuBose played really well in the first half. He went after rebounds and boxed out and got after it on both ends of the court.

Maranatha looked to trap the ball when Brooklyn Center had the ball on the offensive end. The first half both teams went up and down the court. At the half time break the score was Maranatha 23 and Brooklyn Center 27.
Both teams came out fired up ready to play in the second half. Both teams traded baskets to open the half. Maranatha was able to break Brooklyn Centers press in the early goings of the second half.

Brooklyn Center kept it close as they were able to go on a run in the second half. Maranatha kept their cool as Brooklyn Center went on a run mid way through the second half.

Jamey Hammond hit some nice shots mid way through the second half for Maranatha in the second half. He really found his niche in the second half. This contest will come down to the end. Maranatha stayed in a zone most of the night. They had success in the zone.

The game came down to the wire when Wesseh Teah came down and hit a mid range jump shot at the buzzer for Brooklyn Center to send the game into overtime. The score at the end of regulation was 56 a piece.

In the overtime period both teams looked to get in to their offense. Both teams were able to keep a high level of energy. Both teams traded baskets. The overtime period was close. Joshua Hanson hit a jump shot with 2.2 left to go in the overtime period to give Maranath a 65-63 lead. And that was the final.

Strangely enough, this game reminds me of the first ever meeting between the schools in 1996 when BC sent it into OT and pulled off the win.

Glad it was a different result this time!
