MINNEAPOLIS ROOSEVELT WENT UP AGAINST ST. PAUL HIGHLAND PARK IN A BOYS’ BASKETBALL GAME

On Jan. 26, Roosevelt and Highland Park squared off in a boys’ basketball game. Highland Park started off in man-to-man defense. Roosevelt started in zone defense.

Highland Park did a good job of getting the ball down the floor and looking score baskets in transition.

Highland Park’s guard Emanuel Murphy did a good job of getting the ball down the floor and getting the ball to his teammates where they could shoot it.

Both teams took a lot of time off the clock as they each passed the ball around the 3-point line.

Roosevelt’s Ibrahim Elliot came up with block shots and defensive rebounds. He was able to get the ball to his teammates as Roosevelt looked to score in transition. 


Roosevelt’s Arione Farrar Jr. came up with mid-range jump shots. He was also able to get to the basket and make layups.

Highland Park did a good job of getting the ball down the floor and getting past the Roosevelt defense. 


The score went back and forth throughout the first half. Both teams looked like they were evenly matched. 

Roosevelt called a timeout with 9:18 left in the first half. The score was Highland Park 12, Roosevelt 9. 

Elliot was also able to come up with steals and convert them into layups on the offensive end.

Roosevelt played zone defense in the first half. Highland Park had to swing the ball around the 3-point line as they looked to get the ball inside.

Highland Park did a good job of attacking the Roosevelt defense. Highland Park was able to get into the paint and make layups.

Neither team took a lot of shots in the first half. The defensive pressure that both teams applied made it difficult for the offense to take uncontested shots.

Roosevelt’s London Cobbs came up with deep 3-point shots and layups. The defense had a hard time slowing him down on the offensive end.

Highland Park went into a scoring drought late in the first half. They were not able to make shots they put up.

Roosevelt’s Sadiq Mohamed came up with layups late in the first half.

At halftime the score was Roosevelt 30, Highland Park 20.

As the second half got underway Roosevelt did a good job of moving the ball around on the offensive end. They dribbled and weaved their way around the 3-point line as they worked the ball into their offense. If the guards thought that they had a good shot they would take it.

Highland Park struggled on the offensive end early in the second half. Roosevelt came up with steals in which they were able to score.

Roosevelt was quicker than Highland Park and Roosevelt was able hit shots down the stretch. Highland Park struggled to shoot the ball. 


Roosevelt came away with the 71-49 victory over Highland Park.

The leading scorers for Highland Park were Murphy with 8 points and Eddie McGrew with 7 points.

The leading scorers for Roosevelt were Farrar with 24 points and Hannah with 16 points.
