On Jan. 19, Wayzata squared off against Lakeville South in a boys’ basketball game.

Neither team went on a run early. It took a while for each team to figure out what the other one was doing.

Lakeville South did a good job of moving the ball down the floor and getting everyone involved in the offense. They also did a good job of talking to each other on both ends of the floor.

Wayzata came up with some layups late in the first half.

At halftime the score was Wayzata 34, Lakeville South 30.

As the second half got underway Wayzata continued to push the ball down the floor and got baskets in transition.

The score went back and forth for a period of time in the second half as there were many ties and lead changes.

Lakeville South did a good job of getting the ball inside to their post players. The post players were able to come up with layups.

Wayzata’s Austin Slater and Ryan Lindberg both were able to hit mid-range jump shots and layups consistently.

Lakeville South did a good job of taking their time of the offensive end. They passed the ball around the 3-point line and worked the ball around as they looked for a good shot.

Lakeville South went to a zone defense. They were able to spread the Wayzata offense out and force them to take deep shots.

Wayzata came away with the 74-67 victory over Lakeville South.

The leading scorer for Lakeville South was Mitchell with 17 points.

The leading scorer for Wayzata was Sowada with 20 points.
