ST. PAUL JOHNSON WENT UP AGAINST MINNEAPOLIS NORTH IN THE TWIN CITIES BOYS’ BASKETBALL CHAMPIONSHIP GAME

St. Paul Johnson and Minneapolis North squared off against each other in the Twin Cities Championship game on Feb. 21. Both teams won their conference titles.

The score went back and forth early. It took a while for each get into a shooting rhythm.

North’s Jamil Jackson came up with mid-range jump shots. His teammates did a good job of getting him the ball in spots where he could shoot it.

Johnson played a full court man-to-man defense.

North’s Tyler Johnson came up with huge mid-range jump shots and layups.

North called a timeout with 11:48 left in the first half. The score was North 20, St. Paul Johnson 18.

North came up with steals and layups off the steals. North’s Isaac Johnson came up with steals and was able to knock down free throws after he has fouled.

Both teams looked to make fast break layups. They traded baskets for a period of time midway through the first half.

St. Paul Johnson came up with layups late. North wasn’t able to recover.

At halftime the score was North 49, St. Paul Johnson 47.

As the second half got underway both teams continued to push the ball down the floor and made layups.

St. Paul Johnson got the ball into the hands of Jalen Mobley.

North’s Jamil Jackson came up with two handed slam dunks midway through the second half. His teammates did a good job of getting open in the lane.

Both teams kept the score close late in the game.

Mobley came up with huge shots down the stretch. The defense had a hard time slowing him down.

The game came down to the wire. Neither team gave up easy baskets.

The game was tied at 95 at the end of regulation.

The score continued to be close in the overtime period.

Mobley continued to come up with huge shots in the overtime period.

Tyler Johnson came up with huge baskets down the stretch.

Mobley hit a 3-point shot as time expired to tie the game.

The game was tied at 108 after the first overtime period.

In the second overtime period St. Paul Johnson attack the basket and was able to hit their shots. They were able to ware North down.  

North fought back and stepped up and knocked down shots. The score went back and forth in the second overtime.

St. Paul Johnson came away with the 123-119 victory over North.

The leading scorers for Johnson were Mobley with 52 points, and Elliot with 17 points.

The leading scorers for North were Jackson with 41 points, Isaac Johnson with 22 points and Tyler Johnson with 21 points.
