MINNEAPOLIS NORTH AND MINNEAPOLIS PATRICK HENRY SQUARED OFF IN A BOYS’ BASKETBALL GAME

On Dec. 14, Minneapolis North and Minneapolis Patrick Henry squared off in a boys’ basketball game. The game was played at Henry High School. As usual, as a rivalry game goes there was a lively crowd.

Henry started out the game in a zone defense. Both teams looked to push the ball down the floor and score baskets in transition.

North’s Eli Campbell drove the ball down the floor and got everyone involved in the offense. North was able to move the ball down the floor and score baskets in transition.

Henry went to a full court press and was able to turn Henry over. It took a while for Henry to get into an offensive shooting rhythm.

North called a timeout with 15:30 left to go in the first half. The score was North 9, Henry 4.

Henry took their time as they looked to find their shot that they wanted to take.

North used their quickness to get around the Henry defenders.

North’s Nasir El-Amin was all over the floor. On the offensive end he was able to make mid-range jump shots and layups.

Henry called a timeout with 13:15 left in the first half. The score was North 16, Henry 5.

North’s Josh Hodges came up with rebounds. He was able to get the ball to his teammates who brought it down the floor.

After Henry’s slow start offensively, they were able to get their shots to fall.

North called a timeout with 8:14 left in the first half. The score was North 20, Henry 17.

North continued to push the tempo. North was also able to get everyone involved in the offense. They took their time on the offensive end.

North was able to make layups in transition.

Henry got flustered late in the first half, as their shots were not falling. Even though they had difficulty shooting the ball, they kept on shooting the ball.

Henry called a timeout with 3:00 left in the first half. The score was North 38, Henry 25.

Cambell came up with big 3-point shots late in the first half.

North called a timeout with 1:45 left in the first half. The score was North 42, Henry 27.

Henry looked to come up with steals and layups late in the first half.

At halftime the score was North 46, Henry 32.

As the second half got underway North continued to push the ball down the floor and looked to score baskets in transition.

North continued to push the ball down the floor and get the ball into the hands of Omar Brown. Omar Brown got the basket and came up with mid-range jump shots and layups.

Both teams got sloppy at times as both teams created multiple turnovers.

North kept on attacking the basket and coming up with layups and mid-range jump shots.

North called a timeout with 11:07 left in regulation. The score was North 64, Henry 45.

Henry’s Glentrell Carter came up with layups in the second half. His teammates did a good job of getting him the ball in spots where he could shoot it.

North continued to run their offense throughout the second half. North was able to control the tempo early. Henry couldn’t keep up with North in transition.

North called a timeout with 3:34. The score was North 89, Henry 57.

The game got away from Henry late in the first half. North’s quickness

North came away with the 99-60 victory over Henry.

ST.CROIX LUTHERAN WENT UP AGAINST MINNEAPOLIS WASHBURN IN A FOOTBALL GAME

On Sept. 28, St. Croix Lutheran and Minneapolis Washburn squared off in a football game.

St. Croix kicked off to start. Washburn looked to used both the ground and the passing attack early. Washburn fumbled on their own 6-yard line and St. Croix took over.

St. Croix also had difficulty with the ball as they turned the ball over on the next series.

Washburn’s Jamar Nelson came up with a touchdown run. The two-point conversion was no good.

With 10:46 left in the first quarter the score was Washburn 6, St. Croix 0.

After a personal foul on Washburn, St. Croix took over on their own 42-yard line. St. Croix looked to get the ball into the hands of Seth Goplen. Goplen found holes in the defense and was able to come up with big runs. Asahi Kuroki also came up with some key runs for St. Croix that set up first downs. St. Croix Lutheran’s zach Longueville came up with an 11-yard touchdown run. The extra point attempt was good. With 4:55 left in the first quarter. The score was St. Croix 7, Washburn 6.

Washburn took over on their own 25-yard line. Washburn quarterback Sir’Vell Miller came up with big plays as he got his teammates the ball. Washburn turned the ball over on downs.

St. Croix took over on Washburn 40-yard line. St. Croix couldn’t move the ball and they punted the ball on fourth down.

Washburn took over on their own 10-yard line.

After one quarter of play, the score was St. Croix 7, Washburn 6.

Washburn punted on 4th-and-5.

St. Croix called a timeout with 10:32 left in the second quarter. The score was St. Croix 7, Washburn 6.

Washburn got the ball back on a muffed punt by St. Croix. Washburn looked to the air early in the second quarter. Washburn continued to push the ball downfield threw the air. Washburn came up with a 3-yard touchdown reception. The two-point conversion was good.

With 6:14 left in the second quarter the score was Washburn 14, St. Croix 7.

St. Croix took over on their own 36-yard line. St. Croix 14-13 connected on a 36-yard touchdown reception. The extra point attempt was good. With 4:36 left in the second quarter the score was tied at 14.

Washburn took over on their own 34-yard line. Washburn’ went to the air again with a 40-yard reception. Washburn continued to look to get the ball into the endzone late in the second quarter. Washburn turned the ball over on downs as St. Croix took over on the 32-yard line.

St. Croix couldn’t move the ball down the filed and they turned the ball over on downs.

Washburn called a timeout with 40 seconds to go, the score was tied at 14.

Washburn couldn’t move the ball and the time ran out on the first half. At halftime the score was tied at 14.

Washburn kicked off to start the third quarter. St. Croix started on their own 16-yard line. They kept the ball on the ground throughout their first series. Longueville continued to get the ball into his receivers’ hands and move the ball down the field. Asahi Kuroki came with a long run for a first down. St. Croix fumbled the ball twice and came up with the ball.

St. Croix’s Zach Thiel came up with a 38-yard first down reception. Longueville kept on looking to get into the end zone. Isaiah Allen came up with a 2-yard touchdown run. The extra point attempt was good.

With 4:31 left in the third quarter the score was St. Croix 21, Washburn 14.

Washburn took over on their own 42-yard line. Washburn’s Jamarien Wheeler came up with a first down reception. Miller came up with a 23-yard run but that was nullified by a penalty. Washburn turned the ball over on downs.

St. Croix didn’t move the ball down the field and they punted on fourth down.

After three quarters of play, the score was St. Croix 21, Washburn 14.

Washburn looked to air it out in the fourth quarter. Washburn punted on 4th-and-10.

St. Croix called a timeout with 8:19 left in regulation. The score was St. Croix 21, Washburn 14.

St. Croix’s Longueville continued to come up with big plays. Longueville came up with a 5-yard touchdown run. The extra point attempt was good.

With 5:40 left in regulation the score was St. Croix 28, Washburn 14.

Washburn’s Nyle Dickel came up with a 17-yard reception. Washburn continued to get the ball down the field.

Washburn’s Wheler came up with a 12-yard touchdown reception, but the touchdown was nullified by a Washburn penalty.

Washburn called a timeout with 3:36 left in regulation. The score was St. Croix 28, Washburn 14.

St. Croix looked to take time off the clock late in the game. They got the ball into the hands of Longueville. Longueville came up with another huge reception for a first down. Teammate Allen came up with a long run and was stopped on the 2-yard line. that set up the end of the game as St. Croix kneeled the last 3 downs to end the game.

It was a hard-fought game between both teams. Neither team gave up. St. Croix came away with the 28-14 victory over Washburn.
 

ST. JOHN’S FOOTBALL COACH JOHN GAGLIARDI HAS DIED

Legendary St. John's football coach John Gagliardi has died. He was 91 years old. Gagliardi was the head football coach at Saint John's University in Collegeville, Minnesota from 1953 until 2012. 

From 1949 to 1952, he was the head football coach at Carroll College in Helena, Montana.
