MARANATHA CHRISTIAN ACADEMY WENT UP AGAINST MINNEOTA IN THE GIRLS STATE CLASS A SEMIFINAL GAME

Maranatha Christian Academy went up against Minneota in a Class A state girls’ semifinals. The score went back and forth early in the contest.

Neither team went on a run early. There were many ties and lead changes throughout.

Maranatha used both man-to-man and zone defense in the first half.

Minneota’s Taylor Reiss came up with mid-range jump shots and layups in the first half. Her teammates did a good job of getting her the ball where she could shoot it.

There was a media timeout with 6:43 left in the first half. The score was Maranatha 29, Minneota 23.

Maranatha got everyone involved in the offense. They did a good job of getting everyone involved in the offense.

Minneota had a difficult time shooting the ball late in the first half. Maranatha took advantage of that as they were able to come up with mid-range jump shots and layups.

At halftime the score was Maranatha 40, Minneota 33.

As the second half got underway Maranatha continued to push the ball down the floor and looked to get Lexi Lee the ball. Lee was able to come up with mid-range jump shots and layups.

Maranatha came up with some huge baskets to open the second half up. Lee and teammate Alaina
Jarnot continued to come up with huge baskets in the second half.

Jarnot stepped up big as she was able to come up with mid-range jump shots and layups.

Maranatha came away with the 76-69 victory over Minneota.

The leading scorers for Minneota were Emily Stienessen and Riss both with 21 points.

The leading scores for Maranatha were Lee with 28 points, Alaina Jernot with 17 points, and Jaclyn Jernot with 13 points.


HOPKINS WENT UP AGAINST SHAKOPEE IN A STATE SEMIFINAL GAME

Hopkins and Shakopee squared off in the state semifinals. Hopkins pushed the ball down the floor and everyone touched the ball.

There was a media timeout with 14:18 left in the first half. The score was Hopkins 5, Shakopee 1.

The score went back and forth throughout the first half. Neither team went on a run in the first half.

There was a media timeout with 10:39 left in the first half. The score was Hopkins 13, Shakopee 10.

Hopkins moved the ball down the floor well as they were able to come up with fast break layups. 


Hopkins got the ball into the hands of Nia Hollie. Hollie was able to come up with mid-range jump shots.

The Shakopee defense had a hard time of slowing down the Hopkins offense.

At halftime the score was Hopkins 37, Shakopee 23. 


As the second half got underway the Hopkins offense kicked in high gear. They were able to get the ball into the hands of TT Starks and Hollie both of them came up with big shots throughout the game.

Hopkins open the second half on a 19-0 run. 


The defensive pressure that Hopkins applied made it difficult for Shakopee to come up with baskets.

The game went into mercy rule because the score was more than 35 points with nine minutes left in the second half.

Hopkins was way too much for Shakopee to handle.

Hopkins came away with the 64-33 victory. 

PARK CENTER WENT UP AGAINST KASSON-MANTORVILLE IN THE CLASS 3A STATE SEMIFINALS

Park Center and Kasson-Mantorville squared off in the Class 3A state semifinals of the girls’ state tournament.

Park Center moved the ball down the floor well. Both teams started out in zone defense.

There was a media timeout with 14:29 left in the first half. The score was Park Center 4, Kasson-Mantorville 2.

Park Centers Hannah Schaub and Mikayla Hayes came up with mid-range jump shots and layups.

Park Center came up with fast break layups.

There was a media timeout with 10:46 left in the first half. The score was Park Center 11, Kasson-Mantorville 4.

Kasson-Mantorville had a hard time shooting the ball throughout the first half. They were not able to hit shots that they put up.

There was a media timeout with 6:20 left in the first half. The score was Park Center 18, Kasson-Mantorville 8.

Park Center was able to get everyone involved in the offense. Kasson-Mantorville did a good job of stepping up their defensive pressure and keeping Park Center from getting open looks at the basket.

At halftime the score was Park Center 18, Kasson-Mantorville 16.

Kasson-Mantorville came out on fire. They moved the ball down the floor well and were able to make layups in transition.

The score went back and forth throughout the second half. There were many ties and lead changes.

Park Center called a timeout with 12:34 left in regulation. The score was tied at 26.

Park Center’s Ann Simonet, Hannah Schaub, Feyisayo Ayobamidele, Danielle Schaub and Mikayla Hayes continued to all come up with huge mid-range jump shots and layups in the second half.

There was a media timeout with 9:36 left in regulation. The score was Park Center 32, Kasson Mantorville 28.

Both teams played tough on the defensive end.

Park Center continued to push the ball down the floor and looked to kill the clock late in the game.

Park Center came away with the 47-37 victory over Kasson Mantorville.

The leading scorer for Kasson-Mantorville was Kristin Scott with 19 points.

The leading scorers for Park Center were Schaub with 12 points and Simonet with 11 points.

ORONO WENT UP AGAINST MARSHALL IN A CLASS 3A STATE SEMIFINAL BASKETBALL GAME

Orono and Marshall squared off in a girls’ state Class 3A state semifinal basketball game at Williams Arena on the campus of the University of Minnesota.

The score went back and forth early.

There was a media timeout with 14:51 left in the first half. The score was Marshall 8, Orono 6.

Marshall pushed the ball down the floor and were able to score baskets in transition. Marshall went on a 7-0 run in the first half.

There was a media timeout with 10:19 left in the first half. The score was Marshall 17, Orono 10.

Marshall’s Marah Mulso, Callie Graff, Morgan Saugstad and Sarah Buysse all were able to come with mid-range jump shots and layups.

There was a media timeout with 5:53 left in the first half. The score was Marshall 28, Orono 12.

The Marshall defense made it difficult for Orono to come up with uncontested baskets.

There was a media timeout with 2:55 left in the first half. The score was Marshall 31, Orono 18.

Both teams continued to attack the basket late in the first half.

At halftime the score was Marshall 35, Orono 20.

As the second half got underway Marshall continued to push the ball down the floor and come up with layups in transition.  

There was a media timeout with 14:42 left in regulation. The score was Marshall 37, Orono 26.

Marshall came up with huge shots throughout the second half.

Orono’s Meghan Mandel stepped up and knocked down huge mid-range jump shots and layups. The defense had a hard time of slowing her down.

Marshall came up with baskets down the stretch.

Marshall came up with the 55-48 victory over Orono.

The leading scorer for Orono was Mandel with 14 points.

The leading scorers for Marshall were Buysse with 13 points, Mulso with 11 points and Graff with 10 points.


ROSEAU WENT UP AGAINST ESKO IN A CLASS 2A GIRLS STATE QUARTERFINAL GAME

Roseau and Esko squared off in a girls’ basketball game. The score went back and forth early in the game.

Esko pushed the ball down the floor as everyone for Esko touched the ball.

Neither team went on a run in the first half.

Roseau got the ball into the hands of Kacie Borowicz. Borowicz came up with mid-range jump shots and layups.

At halftime the score was Roseau 18, Esko 17.

As the second half got underway both teams continued to trade baskets early in the second half.

Neither team was able to go on a run.

Roseau’s Kiley Borowicz and Kacie Borowicz both came up with mid-range jump shots and layups.

The Esko defense had a hard time slowing them down.

There were several ties and lead changes throughout the game. Neither team went on a run.

The defensive pressure that both Kiley Borowicz and Kacie Borowicz made it difficult for Esko to make shots.

Roseau ran away with the 50-37 victory over Esko.

The leading scorers for Roseau were Kiley Borowicz with 23 points and Kacie Borowicz.

The leading scorers for Esko was Bailey Mudek with 12 points.


FAIRMONT WENT UP AGAINST DOVER-EYOTA IN A QUARTERFINAL BASKETBALL GAME

Fairmont went up against Dover-Eyota in a girls’ state basketball game. Dover-Eyota pushed the ball down the floor as they looked to score baskets in transition.

Dover-Eyota got the ball into the hands of Brandi Blattner. She came up with mid-range jump shots and layups throughout the first half.

Both teams took a lot of time off the clock in the first half.

Dover-Eyota was able to come up with layups and jump shots late in the first half. They were quicker than Fairmont.

At halftime the score was Dover-Eyota 33, Fairmont 23.

As the second half got underway Dover-Eyota looked to get the ball into the hands of Brandi Blattner. Blattner did a good job of getting to the basket.

Fairmont struggled to shoot the ball throughout the game.

Dover-Eyota came up with huge shots by Blattner throughout the game.

Dover-Eyota came up with the 62-53 victory over Fairmont.

The leading scorers for Fairmont were Schultz with 22 points and Mosloski with 17 points.

The leading scorers for Dover Eyota were Blattner with 19 points, Nelson with 16 and Hintz with 10 points.

ANNANDALE WENT UP AGAINST MINNEHAHA ACADEMY IN A CLASS 2A GIRLS’ QUARTERFINAL BASKETBALL STATE GAME

Annandale and Minnehaha Academy squared off in a girls’ state quarterfinal basketball game.

Minnehaha Academy looked to push the ball down the floor quickly as they built an 8-2 lead with 13:45 left in the first half.

The score went back and forth throughout in the first half. Neither team gave up easy baskets.

Minnehaha Academy called a timeout with 8:55 left in the first half. The score was Minnehaha 10, Annandale 6.

Annandale’s Brittany Reimer and Kamryn D'Heilly both came up with mid-range jump shots and layups in the first half. The defense had a hard time slowing them down.

Annandale called a timeout with 5:02 left in the first half. The score was Minnehaha 17, Annandale 10.

Minnehaha did a good job playing at the tempo that they wanted to play at.

At halftime the score was Minnehaha 19 and Annandale 14.

As the second half got underway Minnehaha did a good job of pushing the ball down the floor and score baskets in transition.

Minnehaha called a timeout with 12:02 left in regulation. The score was Minnehaha 31, Annandale 25.

Annandale continued to look to get the ball into the hands of Kamryn D'Heilly, Brittany Reimer,
Hannah Spaulding and Hannah Purcell all who were able to come up with jump shots and layups.

Minnehaha came away with the 49-38 victory over Annandale.

The leading scorers for Annandale were 15   Kamryn D'Heilly with 15 points, Reimer with 9 points and Hannah Spaulding also with 9 points.

The leading scorers for Minnehaha were Roades with 13 points and Thomey with 10 points.

NORWOOD-YOUNG AMERICA GOES UP AGAINST SAUK CENTRE IN A QUARTERFINAL BASKETBALL GAME

Norwood-Young America H.S. went up against Sauk Centre in a Class 2A state quarterfinals.

Norwood-Young America looked to push the ball down the floor and score baskets in transition.

Norwood-Young America’s guard Kaylie Brazil came up with mid-range jump shots and layups.

The score went back and forth throughout the half. There were several ties and lead changes throughout. Neither team went on a huge run in the first half.

Norwood-Young America called a timeout with 8:48 left in the first half. The score was Sauk Centre 19, Norwood-Young America 13.

Both teams dove on the floor after loose balls and rebounds. They also did a good job of sharing the ball. There was very even scoring by both teams.

At halftime the score was Sauk Centre 29, Norwood-Young America 24.

As the second half got underway Sauk Centre continued to push the ball down the floor as they looked to score baskets in transition.

Sauk Centre came out firing on all cylinders.

Norwood-Young America called a timeout with 10:57 left in regulation. The score was Sauk Centre 50, Norwood-Young America 37.

Sauk Centre’s Kelsey Peschel, Madison Greenwaldt and Jill Klaphake all shot the ball well throughout the game. They came up with mid-range jump shots and layups.

Norwood-Young America continued get their shots to fall in the second half.

Sauk Centre came away with the 67-45 victory over Norwood-Young America.

The leading scorers for Sauk Centre were Peschel with 17points, Klaphake with 11 points and Greenwaldt with 10 points.

The leading scorers for Norwood-Young America were Grimm with 12 points and Karnes with 9 points.
 

KASSON–MANTORVILLE WENT UP AGAINST NEW PRAGUE IN THE QUARTERFINALS OF THE GIRLS STATE TOURNAMENT

Kasson-Mantorville and New Prague squared up in a girls’ Class 3A quarterfinal of the MSHSL State girls’ state basketball tournament.

The score went back and forth early. Neither team went on a huge run.

Kasson-Mantorville’s Kristin Scott, Taylor Miller and Maddie Worden all came up with mid-range jump shots and layups.

There were several ties and lead changes throughout the first half.

Kasson-Mantorville called a timeout with 3:21 left in the first half. The score was New Prague 30, Kasson-Mantorville 28.

The score continued to go back and forth late in the first half.

At halftime the score was Kasson-Mantorville 35, New Prague 32.

As the second half got underway Kasson-Mantorville continued to push the ball down the floor and was able to get everyone involved in the offense.

New Prague’s Maizie Deihl, Jess Allar, Taylor Hustad, Jenna Cox and Maddie Giesen came up with mid-range jump shots and layups in the second half.

Kasson-Mantorville called a timeout with 2:43 left in regulation. The score was Kasson-Mantorville 53, New Prague 49.

Both teams continued to push the ball the ball down the floor late in the game.

Kasson-Mantorville came away with the 62-55 victory over New Prague.

The leading scorers for New Prague were Deihl with 20 points, Hustad with 13 points and Allar with 11 points.   

The leading scorers for Kasson-Mantorville were Scott with 23 points and Miller and Worden each with 10 points.

RICHFIELD WENT UP AGAINST PARK CENTER IN A CLASS 3A STATE QUARTERFINAL BASKETBALL GAME

On March 18 Richfield and Park Center squared off in a class 3A state quarterfinal girls’ basketball game at Mariucci Arena on the campus of the University of Minnesota.

Park Center looked to push the ball down the floor and score baskets in transition.

Richfield’s guards did a good job of getting the ball down the floor as they looked to score layups.

Park Center started in a zone defense. Out of the zone Park Center was able to create steals out of the zone.

Park Center’s Danielle Schaub and Mikayla Hayes both came up with layups early. Park Center did a good job of setting the tempo of the game.

Richfield called a timeout with 10:08 left in the first half. The score was Park Center 20, Richfield 10.

Park Center continued to look to push the ball down the floor as they were able to come up with layups.

The Park Center defense made it hard for Richfield to make shots late in the first half. Park Center did a good job of distributing the ball around the court.

Park Center called a timeout with 3:28 left in the first half. The score was Park Center 35, Richfield 19.

Park Center looked to pass the ball around the 3-point line as they tried to play keep away in the last three minutes of the first half.

At halftime the score was Park Center 39, Richfield 26.

As the second half got underway Park Center continued to get to the basket as they were able to get the ball into the hands of Ann Simonet. Simonet came up with mid-range jump shots and layups throughout the game.

The Park Center offense stepped up in the second half. Park Center’s Mikayla Hayes, Ann Simonet, McKenna DuBois, Danielle Schaub and Camille McCoy were all able to hit shots that they put up.

Park Center used their quickness late in the game. They were able to slow down the Richfield offense.

Park Center came away with the 72-57 victory over Richfield.

The leading scorer for Richfield was Adams with 18 points.  

The leading scorers for Park Center were Hayes with 15 points and Dubois with 10 points.

PRINCETON WENT UP AGAINST MARSHALL IN THE CLASS 3A STATE BASKETBALL QUARTER FINAL GAME

Princeton and Marshall squared off in a girls’ state Class 3A state quarterfinal game. Both teams looked to set the tempo early.

Princeton started in a zone defense. They wanted to make Marshall take deep shots.

Marshall started out hot though. They had a 9-0 lead with 15:03 left in the first half. That is when Princeton called their first timeout.

Marshall’s Morgan Saugstad and Callie Graff both came up with huge shots throughout the first half.

The Princeton defense had a hard time slowing them down.

Marshall did a good job of moving the ball down the floor and scoring baskets in transition.

Even through Princeton had a difficult time scoring baskets Haley Sandin, Taylor Laabs and Anna Oakes were able to make layups and jump shots.

Princeton struggled to shoot the ball throughout the first half. They couldn’t hit shots that they put up.

At halftime the score was Marshall 42, Princeton 14.

As the second half got underway Marshall continued to push the ball down the floor. They were able to come up with deep 3-point baskets and layups in the early goings of the second half.

Marshall’s Sarah Buysse and Morgan Saugstad both came up with mid-range jump shots and layups throughout the game. The defense had a hard time slowing them down.

Marshall’s Marah Mulso also came up with mid-range jump shots and layups in the second half.

Marshall took a lot of time off the clock in the second half. They swung the ball round the 3-point line. Princeton changed up their defense.

Marshall came away with the 63-30 victory over Princeton.

The leading scorers for Marshall were Buysse with 16 points, Saugstad with 14 points and Mulso with 10 points.   

The leading scorers for Princeton were Anna Oakes with 11 points and Taylor Labbs with 10 points.

THIEF RIVER FALLS WENT UP AGAINST ORONO IN A GIRLS’ CLASS 3A STATE QUARTERFINAL GAME

Theif  River Falls (TRF) and Orono squared off in a girls’ state Class 3A quarterfinal game.

 Orono pushed the ball down the ball down the floor as they looked to make baskets in transition.

Orono’s Meghan Mandel and Kiera Nelson came up with mid-range jump shots and layups midway through the first half. 


Orono was quicker than TRF. TRF struggled to shoot the ball in the first half. Even though they struggled to shoot the ball they were not afraid to shoot the ball.

TRF spread the ball around. TRF’s Makayla Peterson, Kylea Praska, Jenna Tadych, Tiahna Nicholson and Meleah Biermaier all were able to make mid-range jump shots and layups in the first half.

Orono did a good job of moving the ball down the floor. Everyone was able to get their hands on the ball. Orono did a good job of communicating with everyone on the floor.

At halftime the score was Orono 35, TRF 24.

As the second half got underway Orono really came out running. They were able to keep everyone involved in the offense. 

Orono’s Meghan Mandel came up with mid-range jump shots and layups throughout the second half.

Orono was too much for TRF. Orono came away with the 70-42 victory over TRF. 


Orono was lead in scoring by Nelson with 18 points, Mandel with 13 points and Rudd with 11 points.

The leading scorers for TRF were Biermaier with 11 points and Brekke with 10 points.


CENTENNIAL WENT UP AGAINST ST. MICHAEL-ALBERTVILLE IN THE CLASS 4A STATE QUARTERFINAL GAME

Centennial and St. Michael-Albertville (STMA) squared off in a state Class 4A quarterfinal game.

Both teams traded baskets early. STMA looked to push the ball down the floor and looked to score baskets in transition.

Centennial’s Jaycie Gerding and Claire Orth both came up with mid-range jump shots and layups.

There were many ties and lead changes throughout the first half. Neither team went on a huge run.

STMA did a good job of sharing the ball. STMA’s Bobbi Brendefur, Sydney Tracy, Rae Johnson, Kitri Zezza and Jordyn Walker all looked to get to the basket and make mid-range jump shots and layups.

Both teams defenses made it difficult for the other team to take uncontested shots.

At halftime the score was STMA 27, Centennial 22.

As the second half got underway STMA came out swinging. They pushed the ball down the floor and was able to make layups. On the defensive end STMA really slowed them down on offense.

Centennial came up with some huge layups midway through the second half. Centennial’s Gerding, Grow and Orth continued to come up with mid-range jump shots and layups.

STMA strung some baskets together late in the game.

Centennial wasn’t able to slow down the STMA offense. Centennial came away with the 66-53 victory over Centennial.

The leading scorers for STMA were Tracy with 18 points, Zezza with 10 points, and Brenderfur with 9 points.  

The leading scorers for Centennial were Gerding with 15 points and Grow with 12 points.
