Kasson-Mantorville and New Prague squared up in a girls’ Class 3A quarterfinal of the MSHSL State girls’ state basketball tournament.
The score went back and forth early. Neither team went on a huge run.
Kasson-Mantorville’s Kristin Scott, Taylor Miller and Maddie Worden all came up with mid-range jump shots and layups.
There were several ties and lead changes throughout the first half.
Kasson-Mantorville called a timeout with 3:21 left in the first half. The score was New Prague 30, Kasson-Mantorville 28.
The score continued to go back and forth late in the first half.
At halftime the score was Kasson-Mantorville 35, New Prague 32.
As the second half got underway Kasson-Mantorville continued to push the ball down the floor and was able to get everyone involved in the offense.
New Prague’s Maizie Deihl, Jess Allar, Taylor Hustad, Jenna Cox and Maddie Giesen came up with mid-range jump shots and layups in the second half.
Kasson-Mantorville called a timeout with 2:43 left in regulation. The score was Kasson-Mantorville 53, New Prague 49.
Both teams continued to push the ball the ball down the floor late in the game.
Kasson-Mantorville came away with the 62-55 victory over New Prague.
The leading scorers for New Prague were Deihl with 20 points, Hustad with 13 points and Allar with 11 points.
The leading scorers for Kasson-Mantorville were Scott with 23 points and Miller and Worden each with 10 points.
