BLAKE GUARD ROBERT LEE GRACE IV HAS COMMITED TO PLAYING BASKETBALL AT MACALESTER COLLEGE

Blake guard Robert Lee Grace IV has committed to play basketball at Macalester College in St. Paul.

Grace was a guard at Blake who has played with multiple AAU programs. He was an outstanding guard in the Blake program.

FRIDLEY WENT UP AGAINST BLAKE IN A BOYS’ BASKETBALL GAME

On Feb 26, Fridley and Blake went up against each other in a boys’ basketball game. Going into the game Fridley had a record of 12-12 while Blake’s record was 18-6. 

Fridley looked to get into an offensive shooting rhythm early on the offensive end. 

Blake took a lot of time off the clock as they passed the ball around the 3-point line. 

Fridley used a motion offense as they passed and cut a lot on the offensive end. Blake used a match-up zone defense as they wanted to slow Fridley down on the offensive end. 

Blake’s Robert Lee Grace IV brought the ball down the floor and looked to get his teammates the ball. If Grace didn’t think that he had a good shot, he would pass it to one of his teammates.

The score went back and forth early. It took a while for each of the offensives to get going. 

Blake called a timeout with 13:56 left in the first half. The score was Fridley 7, Blake 4.  

Blake took their time on the offensive end. They got everyone involved in the offense by swinging the ball around the 3-point line.

Blake’s Jasper Liu came up with mid-range jump shots and layups. His teammates were able to get him the ball in spots where he could shoot it. He wasn’t afraid to take the ball strong to the basket as he looked to come up with layups. 

Blake’s Grayson Okoronkwo looked to come up with layups and jump shots. He did a good job of communicating with his teammates and directed them where to go on the floor. 

Fridley looked to trap the ball and they looked to turn Blake over. 

Blake kept on attacking the basket on the offensive end. They took a lot of time off the clock running their offense. 

Blake did a good job of moving the ball around the floor. They also talked to each other on both ends of the floor. 

Fridley’s Christian Crockett came up with mid-range jump shots and layups. He was also able to slow down the guy he was guarding. 

Blake’s Maurice McCarter stepped up and knocked down shots in the first half. He wasn’t afraid to get his teammates involved in the offense. 

Blake wasn’t afraid to shoot 3-point shots as everyone crashed the boards on both ends of the floor. 

Fridley’s Tra’Vione Stevenson came up with shots in the first half. He was able to get past Blake’s defense and get his shot going. 

The score went back and forth late in the first half. 

Fridley’s Isaac Burns attacked the basket and came up with layups and jump shots late in the half. He came off screens and was able to get to the basket and make shots.

Grace knocked down 3-point shots late in the first half as well. 

Blake’s offense got going late in the first half. They were able to come up with stops on the defensive end. 

At halftime, the score was Blake 30, Fridley 20. 

Fridley’s Michah Niewald looked to come up with mid-range jump shots and layups. His teammates were able to get him the ball in spots where he could shoot it. If Niewald didn’t think that he had a good shot, he would pass it to one of his teammates. 

Blake’s Jasper Liu and Theo Liu and Grace all came up with shots throughout the second half. 

Fridley’s Isaac Burns attacked the basket and knocked down shots coming off curl cuts. He also went after rebounds. 

Fridley looked to pick up the tempo in the second half. They attacked the basket and came up with layups.

Blake took their time on the offensive end as they worked the ball around the 3-point line as they looked for their shot. 

The Fridley offense stepped up in the second half. Blake struggled to get their shots to drop in the second half. Even though Blake struggled shooting the ball they kept on shooting it.

Both teams moved the ball well in the second half. The game was close throughout the second half. 

Jasper Liu committed his fourth foul with 9:33 left in regulation. He was taken out of the game. 

Crocket and Grace defended each other and neither gave up an uncontested shot.

Crockett continued to come up with shots in the second half. 

The score went back and forth late in the regulation. There were multiple ties and lead changes late. 

Grace looked to come up with layups coming off screens. 

Fridley looked to trap the ball and turn Blake over late in the game. 

Blake took time off the clock late as they passed the ball around the 3-point line. They were able to step up and slow

Fridley stepped up their defensive pressure late in the game. Fridley battled hard. 

Both teams played well throughout the game. In a hard-fought game, Blake came away with the 55-48 victory over Fridley.

BLAKE WENT UP AGAINST MINNEAPOLIS SOUTHWEST IN A BOYS’ BASKETBALL GAME

On Feb. 18, Blake and Minneapolis Southwest went up against each other in a non conference boys’ basketball game. Going into the game Blake had a record of 16-5 while Southwest’s record was 12-9. 

Blake won the tip and took their time on the offensive end. Blake looked to get the ball into the Robert Lee Grace IV. 

Grace brought the ball down the floor and got his team in the offense. He passed the ball around to his teammates and shouted instructions on where they were supposed to be on the floor.

Blake started the game in a zone defense. That made Southwest pass the ball around the 3-point line. 

Southwest looked to trap Grace and put pressure on him as they looked to turn him over. 

Blake wasn’t afraid to take deep 3-point shots. Everyone on the floor crashed the boards. 

Both teams dove on the floor after the ball. There were multiple jump balls in the first half. 

Southwest used a motion offense as they passed and cuts and there was a lot of movement on the offensive end for Southwest. 

Both offenses stalled for a period in the first half. The defensive pressure made it difficult for either team to come up with shots.

Southwest took their time on the offensive end. They didn’t panic. Southwest’s Gabe Senseman-Cassidy came up with mid-range jump shots and layups. His teammates knew where he was always on the floor and they got him the ball where he could shoot it.

Blake’s Theo Liu looked to come up with mid-range jump shots and layups throughout the first half. Theo Liu knew where everyone was on the floor.

Southwest’s Jaden Reed looked to come up with mid-range jump shots and layups. On the defensive end, guarded Grace and tried to slow him down.

Both teams dove on the floor after loose balls on both ends of the game. 

Southwest’s Kentrell Gaulden looked to come off screens and make jump shots and layups. His teammates knew where he was on the floor and got him the ball.

Blake’s defensive pressure made it difficult for Southwest to inbound the ball. 

Southwest called a timeout with 6:35 left in the first half. The score was Southwest 12, Blake 9. 

Gaulden set good screens for his teammates. He was able to get his teammates open on the offensive end. 

The zone defenses that each team played throughout the first half made if difficult for both teams to take open shots. 

Southwest’s Marcus Mattox came up with deep 3-point shots left in the first half. 

The Blake offense went cold in the first half as they were not able to knock down a shot. Southwest took advantage of Blake’s cold shooting by attacking the basket on their offensive end. 

Southwest came up with steals on the defensive end and came up with layups on the offensive end. 

The score went back and forth late in the first half. Neither team went on a significant run in the first half. 

At halftime, the score was Blake 22 Southwest 19. 

As the second half got underway Southwest looked to get the ball into the hands of Christo Polydorou. Polydorou came up with mid-range jump shots and layups. He wasn’t afraid of contact while he was driving to the basket. He was plagued with foul trouble as he picked up his fourth personal foul with just under 15 minutes to go in the second half. 

The score remained close throughout the second half. Neither team went on a run. 

Both teams continued to rebound well on both ends of the floor. 

Southwest continued to push the ball down the floor and look for their shots. 

Blake called a timeout with 11:09 left in regulation. The score was tied at 30. 

The score continued to go back and forth throughout the second half. Neither team went on a run. 

Blake passed the ball around the 3-point line taking time off the clock and looking for their shots. 

Blake got the lead with just under 10 minutes left in the game. Southwest struggled to shoot the ball, but they kept on shooting. 

Blake kept on looking to shoot 3-point shots and going after the rebounds on the offensive end. 

Southwest called a timeout with 6:51 left in regulation. The score was Blake 36, Southwest 34. 

Blake was patient on the offensive end. They took their time looking for their shots. 

Grace took the ball strong to the basket and looked to come up with mid-range jump shots and layups. 

Southwest looked to trap Grace as he brought the ball down the floor, but Grace was able to get past the defense and came up with layups.

The game remained close late in the game. Neither team gave up open looks at the basket late. 

Blake ran their motion offense and Grace came up with deep 3-point shots. Teammate Sam Deignan also came up with mid-range jump shots and layups. 

Southwest struggled shooting the ball late in the game. Blake used that to their advantage as they were able to come up with shots. Southwest also started fouling with just under 2:00 left in regulation.

Blake got the lead midway through the second half and never looked back.

Both teams played hard throughout the game. In a hard-fought game, Blake came away with the 55-45 victory over Southwest.

The leading scorers for Blake were Liu and Grace each with 15 points, and Deignan with 14 points. 

MINNEAPOLIS ROOSEVELT WENT UP AGAINST BLAKE IN A GIRLS’ BASKETBALL GAME

On Jan. 2, Minneapolis Roosevelt and Blake High Schools went up against each other in a girls’ basketball game. The game was played at Blake School. 

As the game got underway both teams looked to push the ball down the floor and score baskets in transition.  

Blake’s Cate Moe came up with mid-range jump shots and layups early. 

It took Roosevelt awhile to get into an offensive shooting rhythm. 

Roosevelt called a timeout with 15:00 left in the first half. The score was Blake 8, Roosevelt 0. 

Blake got everyone involved in the offense. They did a good job of passing the ball around the 3-point line as they looked for their shots. 

Both teams took their time on the offensive end. 

Both teams struggled shooting the ball throughout the first half. 

Roosevelt struggled shooting the ball throughout the first half. They couldn’t make shots that they put up. Even though they struggled shooting the ball, they kept on attacking the basket.

Roosevelt played a zone defense they made Blake pass the ball around the 3-point line as they were able to get everyone involved in the offense.

Roosevelt called a timeout with 4:37 left in the first half. The score was Blake 30, Roosevelt 10.

Blake continued to push the ball down the floor and get layups in transition. 

Blake’s Cheryl Minde came up with mid-range jump shots and layups in the first half. Her teammates were able to get her the ball in spots where she could shoot it. 

At halftime, the score was Blake 38, Roosevelt 16. 

As the second half got underway Roosevelt stayed in a 2-3 zone defense. They made Blake pass the ball around the 3-point line and made them take time off the clock. 

Roosevelt continued to struggle to shoot the ball in the second half. They were not able to come up with shots in the second half. 

Blake continued to push the ball down the floor and score baskets in transition. Blake looked to also take their time on the offensive end as they passed the ball around the 3-point line looking for their shot.

Blake continued to run the clock late in the game. Roosevelt had a difficult time making shots throughout the game.

Roosevelt couldn’t make shots throughout the game. 

Blake came away with the 68-32 victory over Roosevelt. 

THE BLAKE SCHOOL WENT UP AGAINST HOLY ANGELS IN A BOYS’ BASKETBALL GAME

The Blake School and Holy Angels squared off in a boys’ basketball game at Holy Angels. Both teams raced up and down the floor was they looked to score baskets in transition early.

Blake’s Gabe Ganz came up with mid-range jump shots and layups early. Blake took a lot of time off the clock as they passed the ball around the 3-point line. Teammate Jasper Liu came up with steals on the defensive end and turned them into baskets on the offensive
 end.

Holy Angels got into a scoring drought midway through the first half. Even though they had a tough time shooting the ball early they kept on shooting the ball.

Holy Angels called a timeout with 11:34 left in the first half. The score was Blake 9, Holy Angels 6.

Blake took a lot of time off the clock as passed the ball around the three-point line Blake looked to get the ball into the hands of Robert Lee Grace IV. Grace got to the basket and looked to make mid-range jump shots and layups.

Neither team went on a huge run in the first half.

Blake got everyone involved in the offense. They passed the ball around the three-point line and looked for their shots.

Both teams also took a lot of time off the clock throughout the first half.

Grace continued to look for his shots late in the first half. He was able to get good looks at the basket.

Holy Angels dove on the ground after loose balls as they went after balls on both ends of the floor.

Grace wasn’t afraid to shoot the ball in traffic. If Grace didn’t think that he had a good shot, he would pass it to one of his teammates for the open shot.

Blake’s David Bix and Gabe Ganz both came out and kept on shooting the ball and made mid-range jump shots and layups.

Holy Angles Matt Banovetz and Terrence Roberts both made shots in transition. Their teammates did a good job of knowing where they were on the offensive end were able to get their teammates involved in the offense.

Liu got hot midway through the second half. He was able to make mid-range jump shots and layups.

Blake called a timeout with 14:14 left in regulation. The score was Blake 41, Holy Angels 34.

Blake continued to look to make baskets in transition. They moved the ball down the floor well and was able to get to the basket.

Ganz kept on coming up with mid-range jump shots and layups late in the game.

Blake took a lot of time off the clock late in the game. On the defensive end the defensive pressure that Blake applied made it difficult for Holy Angels to get open looks at the basket.

Holy Angels looked to make shots in transition late in the game. Holy Angels Matt Banovetz came up with big plays in the second half.

Holy Angels kept attacking the basket late in the game. They kept on looking to get the ball into the hands of Matt Banovetz.

BLAKE WENT UP AGAINST BLOOMINGTON KENNEDY IN A BOYS’ BASKETBALL GAME

On Dec. 15, Blake and Bloomington Kennedy squared off in a boys’ basketball game. Blake pushed the ball down the floor and scored layups in transition.

Blake got the ball into the hands of Robert Grace IV. Grace came up with mid-range jump shots and layups. His teammates did a good job of getting him the ball in spots where he could shoot it.

Kennedy took their time on the offensive end. They did a good job of communicating on both ends of the floor.

Kennedy’s guard Isaiah Stone came up with layups and mid-range jump shots. His teammates did a good job of getting him the ball in spots where he could shoot it.

Both teams dove on the floor after loose balls and rebounds on both ends of the floor.

Grace knew where his teammates were on the floor always. He did a good job of getting them the ball in spots where they could shoot it.

Blake called a timeout with 7:40 left in the first half. The score was Kennedy 23, Blake 13.

After the timeout Blake’s offense came to life. Grace stepped up and looked to get everyone involved in the offense.

As the first half ended both teams kept attacking the basket.

At halftime the score was Kennedy 34, Blake 26.

As the second half got underway Kennedy continued to push the ball down the floor and get the ball into the hands of Stone and Matt Cole.

There were many jump balls in the second half. Both teams went after rebounds.

Kennedy was able to get the ball down the floor and come up with layups.

Kennedy’s Isaac Coutier made mid-range jump shots and layups throughout the second half.

Kennedy called a timeout with 10:37 left in regulation. The score was Kennedy 49, Blake 40.

Kennedy scored layups off steals on the defensive end.

Blake called a timeout with 8:05 left in regulation. The score was Kennedy 55, Blake 40.

Blake went into a scoring drought in the second half. Kennedy used their quickness and their size to get to the basket. Blake struggled shooting the ball throughout the game. Overall, I thought that both teams played well.

In the second half Kennedy kept on attacking the basket and coming up with shots. There were periods of time that Blake couldn’t hit their shots. Kennedy took advantage of that, as they attacked the basket and came up with shots.

Kennedy came away with the 78-50 victory over Blake.

I was joined by Sam Williams. Overall Williams thought that Kennedy clearly outplayed Blake. Williams also thought that the Blake offense struggled, and Grace lead the offense.

The leading scorers for Blake were Jasper Liu with 16 points, Gave Ganz with 14 points and Eli Kilpatrick with 11 points.

The leading scorers for Kennedy were Stone with 23 points, Matt Cole with 11 points and Allen Ardley with 10 points.

SMB WENT UP AGAINST WASHBURN IN A BOYS’ FOOTBALL GAME

SMB and Minneapolis Washburn went up against each other in a boys’ football game on Sept. 22, SMB is a cooperative sponsorship team between the high schools of Hope Academy, The Blake School, Minnehaha Academy, St. Paul Academy and Summit School. Going into the game both teams had a record of 2-1. The game was played at Washburn High School.

SMB kicked off to start the game. Washburn started on their own 17-yard line. Washburn’s Andrew Gotziaman started at quarterback. Washburn tried to use the running and passing attacks early. Washburn punted on 4th-and-8.

SMB took over on the Washburn 40-yard line. SMB got the ball into the hands of Jalen Suggs. Suggs was able to run the with ball and come up with first downs. Suggs also got the ball into the hands of his receivers. If Suggs thought that he had room to run, he would run and get yards on the ground. SMB looked to get into the end zone in the first quarter. Suggs came up with a 6-yard touchdown run with 6:00 left in the first quarter. The extra point attempt by Theo Crosby was no good. 

With 6:00 left in the first quarter the score was SMB 6, Washburn 0. 

Washburn took over on their own 20-yard line. Washburn got the ball into the hands of Jamar Nelson. Nelson came up with a 26-yard run for a first down. Washburn fumbled the ball and SMB took over on the Washburn 49-yard line.  

SMB’s Terry Lockett Jr. found holes in the Washburn defense. SMB fumbled the ball and Washburn took over on their own 32-yard line.  

Washburn’s Sir'Vell Miller came up with runs that produced first downs late in the first quarter. 

Washburn took a timeout with 1:00 left in the first quarter. The score was SMB 6, Washburn 0. 

Washburn’ s Jamar Nelson also came up with huge runs for first downs. 

After one quarter of play the score was SMB 6, Washburn 0.  

Washburn turned the ball over on downs. 

SMB’s Suggs could get through the Washburn defenders and come up and make big plays. Suggs found Terry Lockett Jr. for first downs. Suggs found Lockett for a 48-yard touchdown reception. The two-point conversion was no good. 

With 9:09 left in the second quarter the score was SMB 12, Washburn 0. 

Washburn took over on their own 39-yard line. Washburn kept the ball on the ground late in the second quarter. Washburn was picked off by SMB’s Noah Hanson on the 29-yard line. Suggs kept the ball in his hands as he could get past the Washburn defense and come up with big plays. 

Washburn called a timeout with 6:11 left in the second quarter. The score was SMB 12, Washburn 0.

SMB’s Siegel Howard came up with a 30-yard run that set up a Suggs 1-yard touchdown run. The extra point attempt was good.  

With 5:54 left in the second quarter the score was SMB 20, Washburn 0. 

Washburn took over on their own 35-yard line. Washburn’s Jamarien Wheeler came up with a first down catch. Washburn punted on 4th-and-14.

SMB took over on their own 21-yard line. SMB kept the ball on the ground late in the second quarter. SMB’s Craig McDonald came up with a huge reception for a first down. 

At halftime, the score was SMB 20, Washburn 0. 

Washburn kicked off to start the third quarter. SMB recovered it on the 48-yard line. Suggs found Alexey Koeckeritz for a touchdown. The extra point attempt was good. 

With 10:58 left in the third quarter the score was SMB 27, Washburn 0. 

Washburn took over on their own 20-yard line. Washburn couldn’t move the ball down the field and they punted on 4th-and-20. 

Howard continued to move the ball down the field. He could get through the defense. SMB’s Suggs came up with a 10-yard touchdown run. The extra point attempt was good. 

With 4:45 left in the third quarter the score was SMB 34, Washburn 0. 

Washburn punted the ball and on 4th down. SMB looked to get into the late in the third quarter. 

Washburn called a timeout with 2:03 left in the third quarter. The score was SMB 34, Washburn 0. 

Suggs found Lockett for a 20-yard touchdown reception. The extra point attempt was no good. 

With 1:01 left in the third quarter the score was SMB 40, Washburn 0. 

Washburn continued to try to move the ball down the field late in the quarter. 

After three quarters of play the score was SMB 40, Washburn 0. 

Washburn turned the ball over on downs. 

SMB kept on pounding the ball down the field in the fourth quarter.

SMB was too quick for Washburn. Lockett and Suggs came up with big plays throughout the game. 

Washburn couldn’t get their offense going and couldn’t get into the end zone. Both teams played hard. 

SMB came away with the 40-0 victory over Washburn.

 

BLAKE WENT UP AGAINST CRISTO REY IN A BOYS’ BASKETBALL GAME

On Jan. 16, Blake went up against Cristo Rey in a boys’ basketball game. The game was played at Patrick Henry High School.

The score went back and forth early. Cristo Rey looked to get the ball into the hands of Jericho Sims, Sims got to the basket and made mid-range jump shots and layups.

Blake’s Tenzin Choezin came up with mid-range jump shots and layups.

Blake called a timeout with 8:09 left in the first half. The score was Blake 16, Cristo Rey 11.

There were multiple ties and lead changes throughout the first half. Neither team went on a huge run.

Both teams took a lot of time off the clock in the first half by swinging the ball around the 3-point line.

At halftime, the score was Blake 35, Cristo Rey 27.

As the second half got underway Blake continued to push the ball down the floor and came up with layups in transition.

Sims came up with slam dunks and layups in the second half. His teammates did a good job of getting him the ball in spots where he could shoot it.

Neither team went on a run in the second half.  

Blake’s Jack Moe came up with mid-range jump shots and layups in the second half. He was very active around the basket.

Sims kept on coming up with mid-range jump shots and layups.

Blake called a timeout with 8:40 left in regulation, the score was Cristo Rey 53, Blake 48.

Choezin continued to come up with mid-range jump shots and layups. Blake also did a good job of getting everyone involved in the offense.

Blake called a timeout with 3:58 left in regulation, the score was Cristo Rey 68, Blake 58.

Cristo Rey continued to come up with shots late in the game. They did a good job of feeding Sims on the low block.

Cristo Rey came away with the 75-63 victory over Blake.

The leading scorer for Cristo Rey was Sims with 40 points.

The leading scorer for Blake was Moe with 25 points.

ST. ANTHONY VILLAGE WENT UP AGAINST BLAKE IN A BOYS’ BASKETBALL GAME

St. Anthony Village and Blake squared off in a boys’ basketball game on Jan. 2.  Blake came into the game with an overall record of 2-5 while St. Anthony Village came into the game with a record of 7-1.

Blake started the game in a zone defense on the defensive end. St. Anthony Village also started the game in a zone defense.

Blake looked to push the ball down the floor and take their time on the offensive end. They swung the ball around the 3-point line as they looked to get everyone involved in the offense.

It took both teams awhile to get into an offensive rhythm. They were both patient on the offensive end.

Both teams went into a scoring slump for a period in the first half.

Blake called a timeout with 14:28 left in the first half. The score was St. Anthony Village 7, Blake 2.

St. Anthony Village did a good job of getting everyone involved in the offense. They communicated with each other on both ends of the floor.

Blake’s Jack Moe got his team involved in the offense. He directed his teammates on where he wanted them to go on the offensive end. Teammate Robert Grace IV also brought the ball down the floor and took the ball hard to the basket.

On the defensive end, Grace IV could slow down his man that he was guarding. The defensive pressure he applied made it hard for him to get an open look at the basket.

Blake called a timeout with 7:00 left in the first half. The score was St. Anthony Village 25, Blake 11.  

Moe came up with deep 3-point shots. He took his time on the offensive end. His teammates did a good job of getting him the ball in spots where he could shoot it.

Blake looked to make layups in transition. Blake’s Tenzin Choezin did a good job of running the floor and coming up with mid-range jump shots and layups.

At halftime, the score was St. Anthony Village 39, Blake 22.

As the second half got underway Blake continued to push the ball down the floor and looked to score baskets in transition.

St. Anthony Village’s Aaron Smith and Rhys Langums both attacked the basket and came up with mid-range jump shots and layups.

Blake called a timeout with 15:48 left in regulation, the score was St. Anthony Village 47, Blake 24.

St. Anthony Village looked to take time off the clock midway through the second half.

Grace IV looked to get everyone involved in the offense. He passed the ball around to his teammates and called out plays that he wanted to run.

St. Anthony Village was quicker stronger than Blake was. Blake didn’t give up the whole night. Both teams fought hard the whole game.

St. Anthony Village came away with 67-37 victory over Blake.

The leading scorers for St. Anthony Village were Aaron Smith with 24 points and Langums with 15 points.

The leading scorer for Blake was Moe with 15 points.

DELANO WENT UP AGAINST BLAKE IN A BOYS’ BASKETBALL GAME

On Feb. 6, Delano went up against Blake in a boys’ basketball game. Blake started the game in a zone defense. Delano also started the game in a zone defense.

 

Delano looked to push the ball down the floor in transition. Delano looked to get the ball into the low post where Nick Cayler or Matt Kreklow looked to make layups.

 

Blake called a timeout with 16:10 left in the first half. The score was Delano 4, Blake 3.

 

Delano looked to score jump shots and layups in the paint.

 

Blake did a good job of getting the ball out of the Delano basket and pushed the ball down the floor, as they looked to score layups in transition.

 

Kreklow also was able to come up with mid-range jump shots and layups. His teammates did a good job of getting him the ball in the lane where he could make shots.

 

Delano's Dylan Gilmer and Calvin Wishart also came up with layups and mid-range jumpers. They did a good job of making their offense run.

 

Delano went to a zone defense. That made Blake have to pass the ball around the 3-point line and take a lot of time off the clock.

 

Blake called a timeout with 10:07 left in the first half. The score was Delano 16, Blake 6.

 

Delano came up with steals on the defensive end and were to come up with layups off of the steals.

 

Blake went for a period of time where they couldn’t make shots. Delano took advantage of that and were able to come up with fast break layups.

 

Delano was able to get everyone involved in the offense. They did a good job of communicating with each other on the floor on both ends of the court.

Blake kept on attacking the basket as they looked to make layups. Blake was able to get everyone involved in the offense late in the first half.

 

At halftime the score was Delano 47, Blake 27.

 

As the second half got underway Delano continued to come up with layups. Delano was quicker than Blake. Blake struggled to shoot the ball. They took good shots but they were not able to make them fall.

 

Delano called a timeout with 16:06 left in regulation. The score was Delano 54, Blake 27.

 

Delano continued to attack the basket and looked to take time off the clock and go into a motion offense. They did a good job of passing and cutting and coming off of cuts.

 

Blake called a timeout with 9:52 left in regulation. The score was Delano 65, Blake 33.

 

Delano’s Keegan O’Neill made mid-range jump shots and layups.

 

Blake’s Tenzin Choezin came up with deep 3-point shots. He wasn’t afraid to shoot the ball from anywhere on the court.

 

Blake shot a lot of 3-point shots late in the game.  

 

Delano came away with the 89-44 victory over Blake.

 

The leading scorers for Blake were Choezin with 10 points and Moe with 9 points.

 

The leading scorers for Delano were Kreklow with 24 points, Gilmer with 13 points and Wishart with 10 points.

BRECK WENT UP AGAINST BLAKE IN A BOYS' BASKETBALL GAME

On Jan. 29 Breck and Blake squared off in a boys basketball game. Blake started the game in a zone defense. Breck passed the ball around the 3-point line.

 

Breck started the game in a zone defense. Both teams took a lot of time off the clock in the first half.

 

Breck’s Justin Bergerson called for the ball in the paint. He looked to make mid-range jump shots and layups. His teammates did a good job of getting him the ball in spots where he could shoot it.

 

Blake was able to push the ball down the floor and score baskets in transition. Blake wasn’t afraid to shoot deep 3-point baskets.

 

Blake called a timeout with 14:01 left in the first half. The score was Breck 8, Blake 7.

 

Breck was able to make baskets in transition. Breck wasn’t afraid to push the ball down the floor in traffic and really attack Blake defense.

 

The pace of the game was quick. Neither team took a lot of time off the clock on the offensive end.

 

Blake did a good job of moving the ball and swinging it around the 3-point line.  

 

Breck’s Miles Olowu came up with mid-range jump shots and layups. His teammates did a good job on the offensive end of getting him the ball in spots where he could shoot it.

 

Blake’s William Watkins Jr. came up with mid-range jump shots and 3-point baskets. He did a good job of coming off of picks.

 

Breck called a timeout with 8:05 left in the first half. The score was Breck 18, Blake 15.  

 

The score went back and forth in the first half. Neither team went on a huge run.

 

The Blake zone defense made it difficult for Breck to take open shots at the basket.

Blake ran a motion offense. They passed the ball around the 3-point line as they looked for a good shot.

 

Breck’s Ramaud Chiaokhiao-Bowman took the ball hard to the basket and came up with mid-range jump shots and layups. He was also able to make his free throws.

 

Blake was able to score baskets in transition.

 

At halftime the score was Breck 34, Blake 30.

 

As the second half got underway Blake continued to push the ball down the floor and looked to make layups and mid-range jump shots.

 

Blake’s Jack Moe was all over the place on the offensive end. Moe dove on the floor after loose balls and went after rebounds.

 

Breck called a timeout with 15:09 left in regulation. The score was tied at 34.

 

Breck came up with fast break layups.

 

Blake called a timeout with 13:22 left in regulation. The score was Breck 38, Blake 36.

 

Both teams kept attacking the basket and looked for their shots in the second half. Neither team went on a substantial run in the second half.

 

Watkins Jr. and Moe came up with deep 3-point shots to keep their team in the game.

 

Breck called a timeout with 11:24 left in regulation. The score was Blake 47, Breck 42.

 

The game was very physical on both ends of the floor.

 

Breck’s David Roddy came up with mid-range jump shots and layups. He wasn’t afraid to attack the basket or dribble through traffic.

 

Blake called a timeout with 8:03 left in regulation. The score was Blake 53, Breck 51.

 

Moe continued to attack the basket and came up with midrange jump shots and layups. If Moe didn’t think that he had a good shot, he wasn’t afraid pass it to his teammates.

 

Breck went to a motion offense, they set a lot of screens for each other and they passed the ball a lot in their offense.

 

The score went back and forth late in the game. There were many ties and lead changes.

 

Blake called a timeout with 1:19 left in regulation. The score was Breck 63, Blake 61.

 

Both teams took the ball hard to the basket after the timeout. Neither team gave up an easy shot.

 

Breck was able to make shots down the stretch. They were also able to come up with stops on their defensive end.

 

Breck came away with the 73-68 victory over Blake.

The leading scorers for Blake were Moe with 18 points and Watkins with 14 points.
