LAKEVIEW CHRISTIAN WENT UP AGAINST NEW LIFE ACADEMY IN A BOYS’ BASKETBALL GAME

Lakeview Christian and New Life Academy went up against each other in a boys’ basketball game.

NLA pushed the ball down the floor as they looked to score layups in transition.

Lakeview looked to get the ball into the hands of guard Bjorn Broman. Broman stepped up and was able to knock down deep 3-point baskets.

Lakeview called a timeout with 11:04 left in the first half. The score was NLA 24, Lakeview 14.

NLA’s Conrad Engstrom came up with 3-point baskets and layups throughout the first half.

Lakeview struggled to score baskets after the timeout. However NLA came up with steals and was able to make layups off the steals.

Broman was able to come up with mid-range jump shots in the first half. His teammates did a good job of getting him the ball in spots where he could shoot it.

Lakeview came up with steals and then they were able to get down the floor and come up with layups or 3-point shots.

Broman got hot late in the first half. He stepped up and was able to knock down 3-point jump shots.

At halftime the score was NLA 46, Lakeview 43.

As the second half got underway Lakeview continued to look get the ball into the hands of Broman.

Broman was able to hit shots that he put up from both inside and outside of the 3-point line.

NLA looked to keep getting the ball into Engstrom. Engstrom came up with deep 3-point shots. The defense had a hard time slowing him down.

Lakeview continued to attack the basket in the second half. They were able to hit shots that they put up.

Lakeview was able to get steals on defense and come up with layups on offense.

NLA’s Brad Goulet came up with layups and mid-range jump shots late in the game.

NLA was able to string some baskets together late in the game.

Engstrom scored his 1,000th point on a free throw late in the game.

NLA came away with the 90-80 victory over Lakeview.

The leading scorer for NLA was Engstrom with 37 points. The leading scorer for Lakeview was Broman with 60 points.

After the game I was able to talk to NLA’s Engstrom about the game. I was also able to talk to Broman about his performance.  

MARANATHA TOOK ON NEW LIFE ACADEMY IN A BOYS BASKETBALL GAME

Maranatha took on New Life Academy in a boys basketball contest. Both teams started the game in a man-to-man defense.

 

New Life’s Kyle Linton was all over the floor. He came up with some nice mid-range jump shots in the first half. He sparked his team on the offensive end. If he didn’t think that he could hit his shot he would pass it to teammates Conrad Engstrom or Sam Nelson who both stepped up and knocked down big shots from in the lane.

 

New Life’s Derek Wu came off the bench and was able to come up with some nice stops on the defensive end.

 

The score went back and forth for a period of time. Neither team went on a run.

Maranatha’s Damario Armstrong came up with some nice layups late in the first half.

 

At halftime the score was New Life 36, Maranatha 34.  

 

As the second half got underway the score went back and forth.

 

New Life’s Jake Wynia stepped up and was able to hit jump shots from the paint. Maranatha was not able to slow him down on the offensive end. His teammate Nelson came up with some huge layups in the second half.

 

New Life wanted to pick up the tempo of the game in the second half. Ebenezer Ketema came off the bench and provided an offensive spark as he passed the ball to his teammates in spots where they could hit their shots.

 

Both teams raced up and down the floor making layups as they traded baskets.

 

New Life went to a 1-2-2 defense and that caused Maranatha problems. They had used a man-to-man defense for most of the first half.

 

Neither team went on a run in the second half. The defenses made it difficult for either team get out and go on a run because the other team would also hit their shots.

 

Maranatha got hot late in the half as they went on a 6-0 run. They were down by two with 2:17 left in regulation when New Life called a timeout. They couldn’t take the lead however.

 

New Life Academy came away with the 70-66 victory over Maranatha.

NEW LIFE ACADEMY TOOK ON MINNEAPOLIS SOUTHWEST IN THE BREAKDOWN USA FALL LEAGUE

New Life Academy and Minneapolis Southwest went up against each other in a varsity match up in the Breakdown USA Fall League. This league gives high school teams a chance to play games in a regular tempo game.

The game got off to a quick start as each team raced up and down the court looking to make shots that they put up.

Southwest was a step quicker than New Life Academy and they were able to knock down some quick shots. Southwest was able to get shots inside the three-point line.

Southwest did a good job of spreading the ball around to all of the players. It looked like they knew where everyone was supposed to be on the floor.

Southwest's Tyler Eric Wayne Porch did a good job of finding his teammates. He knew where they were at all times and he was not afraid to pass them the ball if he thought that they had a good shot. His teammate Terral Dojorn Sampson did a good job of getting rebounds in the paint and putting the ball back up in the basket.

New Life Academy struggled to score in the first half. That didn't get to them as they kept on shooting the ball.

At halftime the score was Southwest 26 and New Life Academy 17.

New Life Academy came out and looked for quick shots early in the second half. They were not able to get the shots to fall in the opening minutes of the second half. They kept on plugging away anyway.

Porch was able to get some easy looks at the basket and was successful and making wide open shots for his team.

Southwest was able to get everyone involved in the offense and they were able to chew up clock in the second half while making shots.

Southwest's Cameron James Ross was all over the floor. He took the ball hard to the basket and was not afraid to shoot the ball if he thought that he had a good shot. Ross was successful at making shots that he put up, mostly shots within the three-point line. He was not afraid to pull the three-point shot although.

New Life Academy tried to make a comeback but was unsuccessful. In the end Minneapolis Southwest came away with the 54-45 victory over New Life Academy.
