BIG LAKE WENT UP AGAINST SARTELL-ST. STEPHEN’S IN A BOYS’ BASKETBALL GAME

Big Lake and Sartell-St. Stephen’s squared off in a boys’ basketball game. Sartell looked to push the ball down the floor and score baskets in transition.

Sartell swung the ball around the 3-point line as they looked to take time off the clock.

Sartell’s Daniel Daffinrud looked to slow down the guy he was guarding. He looked to some up with steals in the first half.

Big Lake called a timeout with 5:13 left in the first half. The score was Sartell 23, Big Lake 14.

Neither team went on a run in the first half.

At halftime the score was Sartell 28, Big Lake 21.

As the second half got underway Sartell continued to come up with mid-range jump shots. Satrell’s Brandon Snoberger and Jacob Lieberg got their shots to fall in the second half.

Sartell’s Brandon Snoberger came up with huge mid-range jump shots and layups throughout the game. He was able to get past his defenders and make shots.

Big Lake struggled to shoot the ball in the second half.

Sartell did a good job of moving the ball around the 3-point line in transition.

Sartell was too much for Big Lake. Sartell was quicker and was able to get to the basket more effectively throughout the game.

Sartell came away with the 64-50 victory over Big Lake.

PROVIDENCE ACADEMY WENT UP AGAINST BIG LAKE IN A BOYS’ BASKETBALL GAME

Providence Academy and Big Lake squared off in a boys’ basketball game. Big Lake started the game off in a zone defense. Providence swung the ball around the 3-point line as they were not able to get the ball inside.  

Big Lake’s Nate Sanford came up with some nice mid-range jump shots. His teammates did a good job of getting him the ball in spots where he could shoot it. 

Both teams traded baskets early in the contest. 

Providence had a difficult time getting the ball inside against the zone. They settled for mid-range jump shots. 

Providence’s Dominic Miller was all over the floor. On the offensive end Miller was able to come off screens and make mid-range jump shots and layups. 

Big Lake had a difficult time scoring baskets in transition. They were not able to hit shots for a period of time in the first half. 

Neither team went on a run in the first half. The score was close throughout. 

The score at halftime was Big Lake 32, Providence 30. 

Big Lake looked to get the ball into the hands of Trenton Monson. Monson came up with layups and mid-range jump shots. 

There were several ties and lead changes throughout the second half. Providence was able to penetrate the Big Lake defense as they came up with jump shots.

Miller came up with some steals and turned them into layups in the second half. 

Big Lake called a timeout with 10:11 left in regulation. The score was Providence 48, Big Lake 42. 

The score continued to go back and forth late in the game. Providence’s Miller, Riley Loew, and Matt Richelsen all came up with huge baskets late in the contest. 

Big Lake gave Providence a scare late in regulation. But in the end Providence came away with the 62-57 victory over Big Lake. 

The leading scorers for Providence were Richlesen with 18 points and Baird with 16 points.

The leading scorer for Big Lake was Sanford with 12 points.

Big Lake’s Michael Doperalski was not afraid to shoot the ball from anywhere on the floor. He was able to knock down both the three-point shot and make layups. His teammates did a good job of getting him the ball in spots where he could make his shots.

 

Sartell-St. Stephen went cold on the offensive end. They were not able to hit shots that they put up. Tom Bearson and Sam Neeser were the only players who scored baskets for Sartell-St. Stephen early in the first half.

 

Big Lake’s Austin Poe was not afraid to shoot the ball. If Poe thought that he had an open shot he would shoot it. The defense couldn’t slow down Poe.

 

The Big Lake defense was able to slow down the Sartell-St. Stephen offense in the first half. Even though Sartell-St. Stephen couldn’t hit shots that they were not afraid to shoot the ball.

 

At halftime the score was Big Lake 44, Sartell-St. Stephen 15.

 

Big Lake continued to get the ball into the hands of Poe. Poe continued to shoot the ball well in the second half. The Sartell-St. Stephen defense had a hard time slowing him down.

 

Sartell-St. Stephen couldn’t get their offense to click in the second half as well.

 

Big Lake came away with the overwhelming 76-39 victory over Sartell-St. Stephen.

 

The leading scorer for Sartell-St. Stephen was Bearson with 20 points. The leading scorer for Big Lake was Poe with 30 points.

BLAKE TOOK ON BIG LAKE IN A BOYS BASKETBALL GAME

On Dec. 27 Blake took on Big Lake in the first game of the Granite City Classic in St. Cloud.

 

Blake started in zone defense. They wanted to force Big Lake to take long shots.

 

It took a while for each team to figure out what the other team was doing. The score went back and forth through in the first half.

 

There were many ties and lead changes in the first half. Big Lake was able to contest shots as they didn’t give Blake any open looks at the basket.

 

Big Lake’s Michael Doperalski came up with some nice shots for his team. He was able to shoot the ball from both inside and outside the three-point line.  His teammates did a good job of feeding him the ball in spots where he was comfortable shooting it.

 

Neither team went on a run in the first half.  Both teams defended well as neither team gave up any easy baskets.

 

At halftime the score was Big Lake 33, Blake 31.

 

Blake started the second half in a zone defense. They played zone mostly in the first half.

 

Big Lake was able to get the ball into the hands of Doperalski and Sam Dokkebakken who were able to step up and make shots from both inside and outside of the three-point line.

 

The score went back and forth throughout the second half. Neither team went on a run in the second half.

 

Neither team went on a run in the second half. Both teams played very sound defense.

 

Big Lake called a timeout with 6:58 left in regulation, the score was Big Lake 59, Blake 52.

 

Blake moved the ball well in transition. They were able to make layups in traffic.

 

Doperalski kept on getting the ball and was able to hit shots that he took. He was not afraid to attack the basket.

 

Blake hung around in the second half. They didn’t let Big Lake take uncontested shots. Big Lake had to work for every shot that they took.

 

The game came down to the wire.  Dokkebakken nailed a deep shot to win the game for Big Lake.

 

The final was Big Lake 76, Blake 74.

 

The leading scorers for Blake were JR Bascom with 20 points, John Augstine with 15 points, and Gus Austin with 10 points.

BIG LAKE TOOK ON ROGERS IN A BOYS' BASKETBALL SEMIFINAL REGIONAL GAME

Big Lake took on Rogers in the boys' basketball section 5 Class AAA semifinal game at St. Cloud State.
 

Rogers was the number 2 seed in the section and Big Lake was the number 3 seed.
 

Rogers started the game out in a zone defense. They looked to spread Big Lake out as much as they
could.
 

Big Lake looked to get the ball into the hands of their guard Michael Stephens. Stephens was all over
the court. Stephens also brought the ball down the court.
 

Rogers looked to get the ball out of the net and bring it down the court as quickly as they could.
 

Big Lake went to a zone defense. They looked to spread Rogers out.
 

Rogers found the basket midway through the first half. They were able to get an 11-4 lead with 12:00
left in the half.
 

Stephens was able to knock down his free throws. He got to the line because he was able to draw
contact by taking it hard to the basket.
 

Big Lake looked to attack the Rogers defense. They went on a run in the first half.
 

At halftime the score was Rogers 30 and Big Lake 18.
 

As the second half got underway Rogers continued to push the ball up the court. They also looked to
keep the tempo in their favor.
 

Rogers continued to hit their shots in the second half. Big Lake didn't back down.
 

Rogers was too much for Big Lake. In the end Rogers came away with the 71-44 victory over Big
Lake.
 

Rogers shot 24-51 from the field. That included going 8-16 from behind the three-point line.
 

They shot 15-19 from the free throw line. Rogers was led in scoring by with Michael Schreiber with
15 points, Trevor Morlock with 14 points, and Trevor Berkly and Austin Barbeln with 11 points each.
 

Big Lake shot 15-54 from the field that included going 3-22 from the three-point line. They shot 11-16
from the free throw line. Big Lake was led in scoring by Rich Johnson with 15 points and Brian Larson
with 12 points.
